Pakistan touring England has always brought with it a flow of controversies as an appetiser. It was believed that a Pakistan tour of England couldn't end without the tour getting mentioned on the front page of the news paper for all the wrong reasons.

From the Gatting incident, to Aqib Javed’s sweater controversy; from the Oval ball tampering allegations, to the trios spot fixing scandal. These are only a few of the mentioned controversies which made it seem like Pakistan could not play cricket in England without getting into trouble.

However, this time around, under the captaincy of Misbah-ul-haq, Pakistan came over to England focused on just playing cricket, nothing less, nothing more. The team was more focused on proving their point via the results rather than getting into petty issues. Pakistan came and fought 4 hard battles and ended the test tour with a series draw, proving that the often criticized team could win away from Asia, proving that team was much changed under the captaincy of Misbah.

It is also to be remembered that this tour did have petty issues exist as well. Issues that could had also lead on to the front pages if it wasnt for Misbah’s calm and cricket focused mind.

The first issue that came up was when a few English players expressed their dislike for the push ups conducted by the Pakistan team at the end of the Lords Test match. This issue was then cleared when the captain of team Pakistan explained to the media that the push ups were done as a thankful gesture towards the army men under whom the team trained at a camp held before this important series.

By the time the second test match had finished, Pakistani fans were not happy with the umpires warning the Pakistani pacers for running on to the danger area of the pitch. In fact, some even thought that the umpires were being bias and wanted the team to take action. Instead, the captain and management did not make any official complaint to the match referee and accepted the faults of the pacers, another issue that was cleared up thanks to a calm captain. Thankfully, Anderson got banned in the third test’s first innings , as he received maximum warnings for running on to the danger area, till now Pakistani bowlers had been warned but not banned, so the bias issue cleared.

The third test was lost because of reverse swing, the government run Pakistani sports channel, PTV sports, made allegations of ball tampering towards Alistair Cook and his men. But Pakistan's team management made no fuss and accepted the defeat, Alistair Cook did look unhappy about those allegations, but that issue disappeared too.

Then came the fourth test match and Pakistan won, the series was drawn; Misbah and his men did not throw in the match winning push ups this time. Maybe so as not to send the wrong message towards the opposition camp. The test series ended controversy free.

When the trophy was presented to the two winning captains, Misbah and Cook walked off together, with one captain placing his arm around the opposition captains shoulder and with the other captain placing his arm around his counterparts back. This symbolised the respect that existed amongst both captains at the end of a controversy free test series
