Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman is likely to be rested for the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.

The left-hand opener has been declared fit by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB’s) medical commission after recovering from a knee injury that kept him away from pre-season training camp.

However, the PCB doesn’t want to rush Zaman back in international cricket, hence he would instead be playing in the Quaid-e-Azam (QeA) Trophy starting from Saturday.

Top-order batsman Abid Ali is expected to take Zaman’s place in the One-day International (ODI) squad for the Sri Lanka series.

Ali was ignored for the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup, despite scoring a century on debut against Australia earlier this year.

Head coach-cum-chief selector Misbahul Haq is also likely to induct youngsters in place of veteran all-rounders Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik.

The selected squad will participate in a four-day training camp from September 18 in Lahore, before heading to Karachi for the ODI series which will begin from September 27.
