Sup guys, new on here, was Paradox on PP until I got banned for simply stating something very obvious. Turns out you can't say the slightest things against the mods on there without getting banned.

Akmal's a slightly shoddy bat but he's played a couple of solid gritty knocks in the past. Overall if you take into account the rest of the factors that go into making a keeper - personality, voice, keeping as well, how he keeps the team up and running, he's not bad. For anyone who saw Sarfraz Ahmed back in the SA tour in early '13 it was just a massive facepalm-fest in general.

FC isn't the basis of judging someone otherwise Mark Ramparkash would have been a living legend.

Adnan is no better than a number 9 at international level.

This lack of a wicket-keeper who can bat is really hurting our test side. Is there really nobody anywhere in Pakistan?

Rizwan is a keeper who bats well, atleast his record suggest so. The problem is that even though he is a full-time WK, he does not usually keep in FC matches as he plays for SNGPL, the same team as Adnan, so you cannot really say whether he will be upto the task if selected.

They may as well start grooming Umar Akmal to play the ABDV role of full-time keeping in all three formats. Not only will UA get a Test spot in the team that way he'll get a solid cemented spot in all three formats, allowing him to really express himself with the bat and be steady with the gloves. UA's own personal thoughts have to be considered too, keeping in the long haul can take a huge toll on you. ABDV as a batsman is leaps and bounds ahead of UA but South Africa have shown if managed properly like how they manage ABDV, batting and keeping full-time in all 3 formats is very much possible.

The Test side would benefit from a batsman like UA too due to the amount of 2/RPO batsmen we have to deal with (Shafiq, Misbah, etc. - Misbah exempt as he most certainly looks like scoring a 100 in every innings nowadays). Test cricket is changing and adapting and scores of 400+ are being made with run rates of 3.5-.7 and sometimes even over 4/RPO with ease. Pakistan with their 'let's hold on for a very slow and steady 350 and bowl them out' approach will not last long against top teams.

Selection of Adnan after his overall dismal performance (keeping and batting) in last outing is shocking, specially when Sarfarz was dropped after SA series just for his batting performance. Tells you what connections can do in PCB.

Don't get excited lads. Even Ian Chappel called Kamran Akmal the next Gilchrist back in 2006.

    Happy for Sarfraz though.

Those were over reactions Tbh. Michael slater once said during commentary there's a little bit of Javed Miandad like in him and Benaud once said that shot reminded him of Sachin Tendulkar. So some Pakistani fans jump to the bandwagon and say they are the next Tendulkar, Miandad etc etc when they don't see the keywords in 'little' and 'that shot'. Personally for me who has seen him play in almost all his International innings he has always been a good batsman in the 42-46 average mould which for a Pakistani is excellent. Now we have Maqsood who is being called the next Inzamam lol. Jamshed was supposed to
Be the next Anwar and so was Salman Butt. It's the fans expectations really.

Back to the thread I reckon this is the end of Adnan for a while :p

Obviously opinions change with time, back then Akmal was the best keeper in the world along with Dhoni.. No one knew that Akmal will decline so much both as a batsman and keeper.

Agreed, even better than Dhoni at that time.

Remember that back then, he was called better than Prior too. Prior's failed in the Ashes but the comparision looks stupid now. He started well :)

well its about time he scored some runs - and his job isnt done yet, needs to push on for a century considering he is batting with the tail now. that should almost make up for his dropped catches in the game

Adnan Akmal has a mediocre FC record so it was wrong to expect miracles from him and for him to be a viable Test wicketkeeper! He was lucky to have a run of 17/18 tests in a row!

I agree. Only in Pakistan thou. He should have never been picked ahead of Sarfraz based on stats itself. Don't know what was the selection criteria tbh. maybe the name akmal.
