Pakistan got off their WT20 campaign to a perfect start as they beat Bangladesh by 55 runs in their first game. Coming into the game, Bangladesh was the in-form team, having finished as Asia Cup finalists and winning all their games in the qualifier stage while Pakistan had had a poor Asia Cup.

Pakistan won the toss, and elected to bat first. A decision that proved to be a good one as Pakistan compiled a total of 201 runs. The first over was largely uneventful but Sharjeel Khan hit two sixes and a four off Al Amin Hossain in the second over to get off to a blazing start. Bangladesh introduced Arafat Sunny to see off the Sharjeel threat and were successful as he jumped out of his crease too early and was bowled. Hafeez got off the mark hitting the second delivery he faced for six to keep the momentum with Pakistan.

Hafeez and Shehzad then stitched a 95 run partnership for the second wicket. The two have often been criticized for the way they bat, but were exceptional this time around, rotating strike well and finding the boundaries at a good frequency. Shehzad reached his 50 off 35 deliveries in the 13th over but fell to Sabbir Rehman next over. Shahid Afridi decide to promote himself at No. 4 and it was a move that paid off as he hit a manic 49 off just 19 deliveries.

Mortaza was punished for two fours and a six in the 15th over. Hafeez too joined the party hitting Al-Amin for back to back boundaries in the 16th over before Afridi finished the over with a massive six over long-on.

Hafeez was eventually dismissed as a result of a brilliant catch from Soumya Sarkar in the deep, but Afridi continued in his manic fashion punishing Arafat, Taskin and Shakib before eventually holing out to Taskin in the last over after Malik had hit two consecutive fours off the first two deliveries to help Pakistan end at 201.

Needing 202 to win, Bangladesh were dealt an early blow as Amir removed Sarkar off the third delivery of the over. Sabbir got off to a good start with a flurry of boundaries but was removed trying to cut an Afridi googly. Afridi then removed Tamim who holed out to Imad in the deep. Imad then struck with a wicket off his own, as Mahmudullah holed out to Sharjeel Khan in the deep while trying to slog, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 74/4 after 11 overs.

Mushfiqur and Shakib stitched a 39 run partnership but couldn't keep up with the increasing required rate. Mashrafe Mortaza finished with a flurry of boundaries and Shakib reached his 50 off 40 deliveries in the 20th over, but it just wasn't enough as Pakistan finished with a 55 run victory. Shahid Afridi was announced as the player of the match for his brilliant allround performance.

Pakistan play India next on 19th March at the same venue.

A fantastic win and it's great to see the boys go out and play attacking cricket.

It was good to see Afridi come in early and start smashing the way he did. That knock reflected Afridi's career.

The same thing against India will do. We have the right pack of bowlers and our batsmen can fire at times.

It would be v. special if we beat India this way so come on boys

      ..Let's go!

Great team performance. Afridi, Hafeez and Shehzad batted with a point to proved and it showed.

That's what we want. Effort. Dedication. Hunger. Desire.

Glad he batted up the order and did away with the absurdity of coming in with few overs left

Afridi needs to bat in the top order for the remainder of this tournament. He looked so much more composed and relaxed when looking to play proper aggressive shots knowing there were other batsmen to come after him instead of heaving his bat wildly at the ball. Extra bounce and pace should not be an issue for him on these pitches and he is a good player of spin, so no excuses for him to not bat up the order.

      Great write up @Ahson8 .

      Great write up @Ahson8

Yes this was an amazing win that will do wonders for our run rate. A 200 is no joke in t20 especially when the team is Pakistan. Ahmed shezad played very differently. Rotated the strike and played wonderfully. Hafeez has always looked a million bucks while afridi just exploded.

The best part was again the bowlers bcz it was s flat pitch and the ball was coming on the bat and they looked amazing. Used the old method of pace on flat tracks and a mix of yorkers and bouncers while amir also got some swing and bounce with the new ball.

The way afridi set sabbir up was amazing. Got hit for six and s four and then bowled the arm ball that skids in and bowled. Was a treat to watch.

Superb team effort today. I have only managed to watch the highlights and thoroughly enjoyed the performance. How much of a difference did the top order firing make?! Seems the approach has finally changed and they are looking to score quickly rather than get their eye in and building up unnecessary pressure. Good to see Shehzad in form, Sharjeel needs to make more of his starts. Hafeez in some fine form and what an allrounder performance from Lala!
Amir continues to impress with the ball. Irfan/Wahab need to up their game now and offer some support to him.

The momentum is with us going in to the big game on Saturday v India. Hopefully they can put on a similar performance and finally get the win over them in World Cups. It's all set up nicely for us!

I think it depends on the situation. Yesterday the top order had set up a good platform for Afridi to attack. If we lose wickets early, I'd rather have Malik or Sarfraz to try and settle the situation and set up a platform for Afridi. If the spinners are operating, Sarfraz should be sent up the order. If left arm spinners are operating or we want a left hand - right hand combo to unsettle the opposition bowlers, we can promote Imad Wasim.

Don't need to have a rigid lineup. We can be flexible & adjust according to the situation.
