We started Day 1 with everyone talking about Amir but by the end of play all the talk was about Misbah’s solid century and his pressups.

It didn’t take long for Amir to become the main topic of conversation again on Day 2, firstly for his batting and then for his bowling. Pakistan were bundled out for 339 after just one hour with Sarfraz throwing away a promising start.

All eyes were on Amir, could he have that fairy tale return and start to win back the hearts of the cricketing public with his bowling skills?

Amir seemed to let the stress get to him and he didn’t look his usual dangerous self to start with. The first English wicket fell at the other end to Rahat who started out with a good line and seemed to trouble the batsmen more.

It was clear that today wasn’t going to be Amirs day after Cook was dropped twice off his bowling. Holding made a rather snide remark on commentary wondering if the same people who didn’t want Amir back in the Pakistan team were the same people who were dropping the catches off his bowling.

When Amir finally got Cook by knocking over his stumps, Atherton said that Amir took the matter out of the slips hands by targeting the stumps instead.

Maybe I'm reading too much into their comments but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Hopefully the Pakistan team ignores this sort of baiting and just gets on with trying to win this series.

Despite the attempt to make Amir the focus of this Test match the rest of the Pakistan team seem to be determined to keep the spotlight on the cricket. Yesterday it was Misbah saving the day with his century and today it was Yasir Shah.

Yasir became the first legspinner in 20 years to take 5 wickets at Lords and get his name on the Honours board. Some made the usual comparisons with Warne whilst Botham did his usual trick of giving the opposition zero credit. Botham felt the England batsmen were batting below par and it wasn’t Yasir who was just too good for them.

If this was the first time Yasir had bowled like this then we could give Botham the benefit of the doubt. But Yasir consistently rocks opposition teams with his attacking style of bowling.

Yasir should set himself a tour target of having Botham concede that Yasir’s bowling is the cause for English wickets falling. He’s got plenty of matches left to hammer it home to Beefy.

At the end of Day 2, England were 253/7 trailing to Pakistan by 86 runs. Pakistan would do well to remember that England bat all the way to number 10, the next man in (Finn) has a First Class batting average of If Pakistan dont get these wickets quickly then they could be looking at a first innings deficit of 50 to 100 runs.
