Mickey Arthur’s casual attitude towards Men in Green’s fitness during the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup was one of the major reasons behind his exit as the Pakistan head coach.

According to sources, during the 55th Board of Governors (BOG) meeting in Lahore on Friday, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB’s) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wasim Khan rued the fitness levels of the Men in Green’s skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed along with several other players which affected the team’s performance in the recently concluded mega event.

The CEO further added that Arthur was aware of the fact that some players do not meet the fitness standards required in international cricket, yet he selected them in the World Cup squad.

On the other hand, the new domestic structure was expected to be up for fiery debate in the BOG meeting. However, none of the members raised any objections regarding the structure which indicates that regions believe any attempt to question it would be futile.

Hence, the PCB’s Director Domestic Cricket Haroon Rasheed finished his presentation on the new domestic set-up in around 10 minutes, without any questions asked.

The media is playing a bad part here. They are assuming the BoG believed that their attempts would go in vain. You can't just assume. They're making it look like the PCB is all evil. They are defending players who are not even club level. Sorry but the system cannot accommodate mediocrity, as for money, the money will come now that cricket is regional based. Lots of people compare population of Australia and Pakistan which is fine but a counter to that - the population of Uttar Pradesh is same as Pakistan. Uttar Pradesh state in India has one ranji team. In Pakistan you will have 6 teams and also 6 second 11 teams which is more than enough.

I don't see many faults in this new system, good structure however they need to pay great attention to club cricket. The next step is to revive club cricket around the country.

A player has to go through 4 steps to play First class or U-19 for his provincial side so of course quality cricket will be played.

    - Club/School (U-13, U-16, U-19)
    - Inter city
    - Inter city championship
    - Grade two - provincial
    - First class/U-19 - provincial

    Bullocks.

These idiots are now going after Arthur for the screw up and mess they have created now.

Arthur wasn’t a selector. He was a coach. Inzamam was the selector.

Arthur deserve the highest honor in Pakistan for keeping the Akmals and Shehzads out of the team regardless how fit they were. He made sure Pakistan cricket was cancer free during his time as coach there.

Haroon Rasheed is one of the biggest parchi booster in PCB history. As long as people like him are running PCB. There will never be permanent improvements.

Hatton Rasheed is a yes man. If he does his job correctly I won't mind.

He's not runing our cricket. Whatever Wasim and Mani are telling him he's working on that.

PCB are also bringing in a new post General manager domestic. They are bringing in Junaid Zia.

So PCB was aware all along that Arthur was playing unfit players, yet they let him do it? Or this was revealed to PCB only now that we lost the WC?

And since when, the “coach” responsible for “selecting” the unfit players? Was he getting Inzimam’s salary too?

Azhar Mahmood has already confirmed that Mickey Arthur had a lot of power, say over selections and even over ruled captain Sarfaraz and Chief Selector Inzamam
