No Ashes thread yet?
Australia won the toss and are batting first, 207/3 and Clarke is on 77*
This is going to be a great game. Brilliant to see the Aussies fighting.
Poor umpiring today
Nobody is interested mate :shrug
Warner batting at 6 is a new one as he can be like Gilchrist at that position.
By some times Aussies will be a stronger team.
Clarke will need a big score to redeem some pride opportunity.
Clarke nearing his 100, may it be a double then a triple!
Clarke's hundreds as skipper: 112, 151, 139, 329*, 210, 259*, 230, 106 and 130. Temprament to score big is an understatment. Averaging 65 as Captain after 27 tests! You go Pup!
Clarke is on 90*. Playing very well.
110 runs partnership between Clarke & Smith.
Clarke onto 95* with that FOUR!
Easy now Clarkey!
Clarke proving why he is the best batsman in the world right now.
Jimmy light years behind in proving his is the world's best bowler right now.
Clarke best batsman in the world since? On Anderson we both had a mutual agreement but here my friend your a little naive to say this.
Sorry I thought Clarke was #1 rank for some reason.
Still playing an amazing innings.
100! for Clarke. Captain's knock.
5th ton against England.
100 for Michael Clarke :clap
Another one as captain and about time in the Ashes, leading from the front now.
Smith playing a very subdued innings. Needs to push on and make it worthwhile like pup has done today
Smith is doing exactly what is needed off him.
STUMPS, Day one: Australia 303-3 and Michael Clarke 125*
Wonderful day for Australia. About time.
I'd love for Aussies to get to 500+ in the first innings and put some pressure back on poms.
Australia's RR was very good. They are 63 runs away from the highest 1st inning runs this series. This speaks volumes considering Oz batting has been a problem of late.
I'm guessing with Monday potentially called off due to weather, Oz will want to bat till the nd of tomorrow and then of course try and take 20 wickets in 6 sessions.
The bowling attack is good enough for Australia. Starc however is becoming an overrated test match bowler. Needs to prove people wrong, I was certain Jackson Bird would play though.
Very much like Jimmy!
What happened to Fawad Ahmed? I was hoping to see a glimpse of him. See what the fuss was all about.
I guess they didn't play Bird due to conditions. He was doing everything right
Good to see Aussies putting up a fight.
I want them to win this test to make the series interesting. And for England to come back down to earth.
I've seen him bowl. Rubbish, You're seeing a similar version of Imran Tahir. One good delivery followed by 5 hit me ones.
I don't get it though. How's Starc going to be suited to these conditions then? He'll be good first up. But unless he can extract his reverse swing then it'll be something to watch and even I'll say I was wrong to judge his inclusion. On a flat pitch like this Bird would have maintained his line and length and that's what counts when you're playing somewhere like Old Trafford is right now. Due to the Aussies batting weakness I reckon they got Starc because of that too.
Won't there be reverse later on?
There will but Koi Asaan kaam thora hai?
I would have played 2 spinners TBH, even though Agar wouldn't do much
Steve Smith > Shane Warne.
Steve Smith > Ricky Ponting + Shane Warne
Steve Smith <. Kamran + farhat +malik
2nd day's play about to begin as Andreson will bowl the first over.
Smith had really worked hard on his batting recently and is batting well in this series.
Smith looking good for his maiden ton in Tests.
