He's being taunted as a parchi player of Misbah but hasn't he done good enough for Islamabad this season until now?

Looks like a confident cricketer. Does he have enough potential to make it to the big level?

Has exceeded my expectation for Islamabad. Fielding has been VERY solid and catching has been great.

Batting has been very good too

However, he is NOT an international player. No way.

he's improving every game, Misbah has got a great eye for picking talents. First Raees, then Shadab and now him and Talat

Sahibzada will be the next project for Misbah

Useless. Every now and then you will score if given chance after chance. Has been given 3 years of PSL and finally looks half decent? Says a lot

    Inline are his numbers/stats.

    upload_2018-3-14_10-13-0.png

Nothing special at First-class level considering he debuted in 2010, 8 years ago. After playing 29 game / 54 innings, only able to make 1104 runs, 1 100 and 3 50's in 54 innings with Ave of 20.83, which tells me that he isn't suited for long format.

Coming on List A, but again, in 36 matches he made 587 runs with only 1 100 and 1 50 with Ave of 18.34. Tells me that he's incapable of building innings and convert his starts. Only positive I can see is his SR.

Lastly, on format where he could be tried in T20 based on the above stats. But then I'm in the middle order we are looking for maybe one individual, because Malik isn't going anywhere. Therefore, I would advocate to have Talat at no.4 rather than him.

Well, nay for ODI and Test formats, but can be a yea for T20I format if he improves his record further. I don't know why Misbah is preferring him over Farhan. Misbah sucks!

Give me as many chances as him and I bet I will score at least a 50.

He is no where near International material. He Should thank Misbah for whatever he had achieved in PSL so far.

He should only be considered for T20 selection if he bats extremely well, he has had a few decent innings and everyone has forgotten how pathetic he really is.

Asif Ali's big hitting set to provide Pakistan its perfect tonic

Reporters are perched under the shadow of the Hanif Mohammad enclosure at the National Stadium on a hot Karachi afternoon. They are daring one of them to catch the balls, landing a few feet in front of them, that being launched from one of the nets at the square. A right-handed batsman is providing that reporter ample opportunities. He smacks almost every ball that is hurled at him by a support staff member.

The batsman is Asif Ali, one of the four uncapped players included in the Pakistan squad for the highly-anticipated three-match series against the Windies. Ali is not playing any horizontal bat shots. He is not dancing down the wicket in search of rhythm.

He just stands and delivers. The sight is beautiful!

Before the launch of thePakistan Super League, Pakistan were desperate for a T20 league of their own. Not just due to the financial needs, but because such leagues prove to be instrumental in unveiling local talent, that perhaps otherwise would be lost to world cricket.

The PSL delivered for Pakistan. It generated a revenue stream for a board that has been forced to host its home cricket out of the country. It played a groundbreaking role in ending international cricket's exile from the country. And, it brought talented youngsters into the limelight.

The third edition of the tournament - like the previous ones - brought some of the talented individuals at the forefront, with Islamabad United's Ali being one of them.

His inclusion in Pakistan's T20 squad - just a day after his side's title triumph - did not come as a surprise. In fact, it would have left many in shock had he not been made part of the Pakistan squad for the three games. After all, Ali had played a crucial role in helping Islamabad secure their second PSL title.

Ali's clean hitting is no new feature. The final of the third PSL between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi hung in balance when the former lost six wickets for 20 runs during their 149-run chase after Luke Ronchi and Sahibzada Farhan had set up a brilliant 96-run opening-stand.

But it took only six balls for Ali to take his side over the line as he piled up 26 runs, smashing three consecutive sixes off Hasan Ali.

The Faisalabad-born batsman dispatched Hasan's two back-to- back short-pitched deliveries and a fuller-length ball over the mid-wicket boundary reducing the equation from 21 required off 29 balls to just three needed off 26. Those three clean-hits perfectly reflected how he had been batting throughout the tournament.

In a time when T20 cricket is shaping how batmen approach the other formats, power-hitters have risen to prominence. Batting orders are often formed around them. And, they are floated around the order to suit the situation of the match.

The 26-year- old Ali averaged 30.42 in this PSL edition, scoring his 213 runs at a strike rate of 169. However, it was his strike rate of 215.09 in the last five overs of an innings that made him an effective batting option for Islamabad.

Islamabad United scored at more than 11 an over from the 16th over on six occasions this season. Their best run-rate this tournament (14.72) came in the final against Peshawar Zalmi, thanks to those three towering sixes from Ali. Only on one instance, when Islamabad scored at 11.62 against Multan Sultans at Sharjah, Ali was not present at the crease, highlighting how key a factor he has been in Islamabad's big scores.

Pakistan can make the most of his abilities when they face Windies in Karachi. On the sidelines of the first day of the three day long training camp for the series, Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur praised Ali for his run during the PSL, calling him 'a finisher'.

Since the 2016 T20 WC, Pakistan have had the fifth best run-rate (10.27) during overs 16 to 20, behind India (10.35), New Zealand (10.55), South Africa (10.73), and Australia (11.03). They are in desperate need of a batsman of Ali's ilk to shoot up that run rate. Ali has only just arrived, but the with glimpses of what he can do on display during the PSL, Pakistan will be hoping he can their go-to man for the perfect finish as well.

He’s a good striker of the ball although he needs to work on his shot selection.

No. He was 2-3 overs late. No matter how good a slogger one is, you cant expect one to start hitting from ball 1, that also on his first game. He should have given an over or two of warming up.

But yes he could have made up but his nerves did him.

His job is to hit. In an interview after the final he said his natural game is to go after the bowling from the word go. He flopped and will flop badly, his domestic numbers point to that. Total of 70 runs in 2 previous PSL seasons. Its obvious why he was picked 3rd season in a row after such shocking returns.

He got lucky with his one important contact while a few other top performers that score heavily in domestic just to get a deserved call up to PSL get dropped after just one bad game and are written off.

Yes he said that. But he never realized that in final he took his time before going wild.

In PSL3 I cant say anyone didnt had a chance apart from Saif Badar.

No. Every batsman need to feel the ball on bat before going wild. Even if it takes 2-3 balls.
