The test match between the Black Caps and Bangladesh will not go ahead.

The Bangladesh cricket team escaped the Christchurch Mosque where a mass shooting took place on Friday.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White said the match has been called off.

"A joint decision between NZC and [Bangladesh] has been made to cancel the Hagley Oval Test."

An official ushering the team from the bus to the hotel indicated it was unlikely the third test against New Zealand would be played.

"There's no thoughts toward the game. That's not the biggest concern right now, the players need space."

Bangladesh bowling coach Courtney Walsh said about 3.30pm the team would have a meeting "shortly".

Cricinfo's Bangladesh correspondent Mohammad Isam posted a video to Twitter of the team rushing through Hagley Park away from the mosque.

A gunman reportedly opened fire at the mosque, with the former president of the Muslim Association of Canterbury Mohammed Jama saying a man with a gun went into the mosque about 1.40pm on Friday.

He saw about four people injured and two people lying on the ground. He did not know if they were alive or dead.

Bangladesh opening batsman Tamim Iqbal tweeted about the "frightening experience".

"Entire team got saved from active shooters!!! Frightening experience and please keep us in your prayers."

Bangladesh's performance and strategic analyst Shrinivas tweeted there was a lot of panic.

"Just escaped active shooters!!! Heartbeats pumping badly and panic everywhere!! #ChristchurchMosque," he wrote.

Bangladesh wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim also tweeted how fortunate they were.

"Alhamdulillah Allah save us today while shooting in Christchurch in the mosque...we r extremely lucky...never want to see this things happen again....pray for us."

Mario Villavarayen, strength and conditioning coach of the Bangladesh cricket team said the players were shaken up, but fine.

"I spoke to one of them shortly after [the incident]. They didn't see anything but heard gunshots. They were at the ground [Hagley Oval] and just started running.

"The coaching staff were all at the hotel. The players just started running when they heard the shots."

    • The site of the two shootings
The two shootings took place at the Al Noor mosque west of the centre and in a second mosque in the eastern suburb of Linwood.

Very chilling news. Not what you would expect in a country like NZ.

The media has for too long condoned the far right and their hate speech. These people have dehumanized muslims and indirectly contributed to attacks like these.

    Absolute tragedy

    No Country is Safe

Is it a terrorist attack or will the media say he had mental issues

Indians on social media are trying their best to link this attack to Pakistan, stating the attacker visited Pakistan. Fkin jaahils.

Last year, a message on Facebook from Mr Tarrant spoke of a trip to Pakistan, "an incredible place filled with the most earnest, kind hearted and hospitable people in the world".

"The beauty of hunza and nagar valley in autumn cannot be beat," he wrote.

The guy is a nut job. He thinks it’s his duty to eliminate the “invaders” occupying European countries. He would therefore not have an issue with Muslims in Pakistan.

Also Indians linking this to the attack are also stupid.

In all a very sad situation, and that too in such a peaceful country like New Zealand.

Inna lillahi wa inna ilay’hi raji’un. May Allah grant them Jannah and their loved ones sabr

Doing anything like that will just further his agenda. We shouldn't give him the satisfaction. He will have his day in court and hopefully he is made an example out of. I know it seems pointless considering what he's done but this how it should be handled otherwise all we do is get stuck in a cycle of violence.

He will get life in prison and won’t care less. I know violence isn’t the answer but you know the world we live in.
