Watching the Aussie pace attack bowl today I was reminded of Pakistan's pace attack back between 2004 and 2006. On paper we had two 150+ kph bowlers in Sami and Akhtar, plus a great swing bowler who hit the early 140k range in Rana. Brett Lee - Lee is the Akhtar of this attack. The experienced bowler who still has good pace and who leads the attack. Pakistan used to turn to Shoaib in the same way that Australia turn to Lee. Shaun Tait - Tait like Sami has all the tools. Good pace and he can move the ball too. But just like Sami, Tait lacks a bowling brain. He bowls in all the wrong areas and ends up wasting the advantage of his pace by putting the ball exactly where the batsman likes to hit it. Mitchell Johnson - Both Mitchell and Rana are very up and down bowlers. When either of them is having a good day then watch out, no batsman stands against them for very long. They can look unplayable and take wickets in bunches. Rana was the top ODI bowler in the world in 05/06. At one point Mitchell was thought to be one of the best bowlers in the world too. But when either of these guys are having a bad day then forget about it, they are cannon fodder for all batsmen. Overall the Aus attack is a bit faster but it's striking how similar both attacks are.
