Coronavirus has been declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization, as the outbreak continues to spread outside China.

"The main reason is not what is happening in China but what is happening in other countries," said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, making the announcement at a press conference in Geneva.

The concern is that it could spread to countries with weaker health systems.

Coming from WHO it's quite serious and should be taken accordingly.

Pakistan should restrict and suspend flights to China until it's contained. We don't have enough resources, facilities and neither trained health care staff to tackle the outbreak, heck we cant even handle dengue let alone Coronavirus, which is next level.

Saw a video where a Chinese was in a train and all the folks around her covered their faces quite prominently. I think this happened in France.

Sad situation for some Pakistani students stuck in China, seems the govt is not interested to have them back.

I am kind of 50-50 on this. Should the govt risk the epidemic on their shores when there is no known treatment yet for the virus?

I never intended to, genuinely feeling bad for them.

But I find it hard to blame the Pak govt too. The virus has no cure as yet.

Its a big no sadly. Risking millions of lives over a few students.

They should stay in China until the virus threat is contaminated

Bullshit, utter bullshit, all other countries are flying their own citizens back home, even those who are sick, once arrived they could be quarantined for up to 14 days for monitoring (like Australia or USA), and if develop symptoms can be treated with supportive measures till body's immune system eliminates the infection just like any other other viruses. Corona Virus does NOT have 100% mortality, most victims especially healthy and younger ones recover fine with right treatment. In fact, Corona has even lesser fatality than the 2003 Sars epidemic.

Whatever credibility this govt. had left in my opinion has now totally disappeared. shame

So what if symptoms can't be treated with supportive measures and body's immune system is not strong enough to fight with the virus?

Dont get me wrong, just asking the question to understand it better !

More to the point, now I understand why government has decided not to repatriate Pakistani citizens stranded in China. It is due to the recommendations of the World Health Organisation, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza.

A third case of the coronavirus has been confirmed in Kerala’s Kasaragod district, according to Kerala health Minister Kk Shailaja. The patient is a medical student who returned from China’s virus-hit Wuhan and is being kept at the isolation ward of the government district hospital. The health ministry also updated its travel advisory and asked people to refrain from travelling to China.

"He said that his brother had gone through medical screening at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. “He was absolutely fine during the screening because he had already taken the medicine,” he explained. “But when he got home, he had fever, flu, cough and fatigue.” "

    That explains it.

Basically he took medicine to relieve symptoms but got worse when he came home. I mean this guy knew he was infected, hid his condition on purpose and decided to pay family a visit, I mean seriously, what the F**K man !

Test results should be available soon. Government should not hide the results and use this case as an example of why people need to follow advice properly and not bloody well tell lies at immigration.

And icing on the cake, all his family members, his brother roaming in the room & picking things from garbage and all those who he met might be infected. Which means human to human transfer is also possible, Jeez, God help Pakistan !

Our beloved Prophet (PBUH) instructed us 1,400 years ago that in case of epidemic the one's who are inside the affected area should not leave it and the one's who are outside should not go to the affected areas.

This is to make sure the disease is restricted to one area and to stop it's spreading all over. Only a fool who is already affected will travel all the way to another country and make sure all his family and friends are also affected.

Yes they are. Simple as that.

Oh bhai there is nothing religious in this. It is simple common sense. Restrict the disease to a small area. Why will you want to spread it and turn it into a disaster. Only a fool will do this. Right?

They shouldn't allow neither flights nor CPEC workers. Looking at the health facilities in Pakistan it could turn into a very huge disaster if this virus is spread over Pakistan.

    pretty much.

2 cases of Coronavirus so far in Saudi, a family in UAE infected with the virus.

Its really stupid from countries that are allowing their nationals to comeback from China at this time.

Need to wait until the threat and risk is eliminated.

    I'm a bit confused here

A- Why is he making a video and asking for medical aid ? who is this targeted at ?

B- China has world class medical facilities and they are taking care of the infected

C- Why is the room empty, I don't even see a single nurse

Concern is genuine, however, odds are high that virus wouldn't have effected those workers.

Also, I dont think anybody can work effectively while carrying novel coronavirus.

Indian state declares emergency after third confirmed coronavirus case

All three cases detected in students returning from the outbreak epicentre in Wuhan

    ByJoe Wallen NEW DELHI3 February 2020 • 6:47pm
Three Indian students returning from Wuhan in China have all tested positive for the coronavirus CREDIT: AP/AP
An emergency has been declared in the southern state of Kerala after it was confirmed on Monday that a third person had contracted China's deadly coronavirus.

All three confirmed cases in India have so far been detected in students returning home to the state from the Chinese city of Wuhan.

At least 2,000 other Indians have now been quarantined across the country in hospitals or in their homes after displaying symptoms of the virus.

Kerala's Government described the outbreak as a “state calamity” and said it would implement strict measures to stop the virus spreading further.

All three patients are said to be in a stable condition and are receiving treatment in the Thrissur, Alappuzha and Kasaragod districts.

Coronaviruses are found in animals but they can also mutate to infect humans. This novel coronavirus – dubbed 2019-nCoV by health experts – is thought to have originated at a seafood market in Wuhan where wildlife is also traded.

It has since spread person-to-person throughout China and to more than 20 countries internationally.

The United Kingdom registered its first two cases on Friday in two Chinese tourists who reported feeling unwell in York.

So far, more than 17,350 people have been infected worldwide and at least 360 people have died.

At about 2 per cent, the fatality rate of this coronavirus is lower than the previous Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers) coronavirus outbreaks.

However, this did not stop the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring the virus a public health emergency on Friday.

This is largely over fears it could spread unhindered if infections take hold in a poorly prepared, densely populated developing country – as they now threaten to do in India.

The WHO has advised people to reduce their risk of exposure by frequently cleaning their hands and avoiding close contact with anyone with a fever or cough.

It has also advised against visiting live animal markets in areas with infections and from consuming raw or undercooked animal products.

The Indian Government faced criticism after officially advising homeopathy and ayurvedic, plant-based remedies to effectively treat the disease.

These included drinking an arsenic-based solution which is toxic when consumed long-term and putting drops of sesame seed oil inside your nose.

“The number of Indian lives saved by homeopathy from the coronavirus will be exactly the same as lives saved by homeopathy from HIV,” said Oomen Kurien, the Head of the Observer Research Foundation’s Health Initiative.

“False claims without any clinical data and endangering the lives of those who are at risk of infection,” tweeted Dr Sumaiya Shaikh, an Australian neuroscientist.

Following the criticism, the Indian Government backtracked and said its advisory was issued as a ‘preventative measure’ and not as ‘treatment advice’ and that it has a clear plan in place to combat the spread of the virus.

It has screened more than 60,000 passengers arriving at its airports for coronavirus symptoms, as well as on its land border with Nepal after a case was confirmed there.

India also joined the United States and Australia in chartering an emergency flight to bring back citizens who had been stranded in Wuhan.

On contrary, Pakistan has take a very wise decision, this chart from Germany shows that suspected patients of the Coronavirus were both symptomatic and asymptomatic:

More to the point, bring those back to Pakistan, than do what? Do we have cure or vaccin? Can we fight with this virus? Do we have capacity, infrastructure and resources to handler it? Hell we cant even handle dengue let alone coronavirus. So what do we do?

I reckon in such circumstances blindly follow what Prophet Muhammad PBUH said - reference Sahih al-bukhari 5728.
