The excitement in Aaqib’s voice is unmistakable as he says "I spent the whole day thinking to myself that we might have something really special here"

The former head coach of Pakistan’s national academy, Aaqib Javed, knows talent when he sees it. Aaqib is talking about a 6'10 left arm fast bowler sent to him by Nadeem Iqbal (Waqar Younis’ old fast bowling partner) the assistant coach of the Multan regional academy. The 23 year old has never played a professional game of cricket but still manages to impress Aaqib.

"At the moment he has no clue about what he's trying to do" continues Aaqib but the seemingly scathing remarks are anything but negative as Aaqib explains when he says "we can teach him that stuff at the academy and if he's good enough then he'll pick it up."

Aaqib clearly doesnt want to waste any more time, he states that he advised Irfan to "pack his bags and come straight back because I want to work on his mental and physical fitness, he hasnt played any real cricket yet so he still has everything to learn."

According to Aaqib, Irfan gets extra bounce due to his height and as a left hander he also gets natural away swing from the right handed batsman. The only thing concerning Aaqib is that Irfan is only clocking 125 kph in the speed department but Aaqib is even upbeat about that saying "What he needs right now is to bring his fitness levels up and start bowling as fast as he can. If he manages to hit 135k+ then we have something special here."

Irfan got his chance to meet with Pakistan's assistant coach Aaqib Javed through what appears to be the first instance of cyber patronage. Nadeem Iqbal first brought Irfan to my attention over a year ago during an exclusive interview I conducted with him.

Then when I got the chance to interview Aaqib Javed I pushed forward the case of Mohammad Irfan and convinced Aaqib to take a look at him. Aaqib agreed and now Irfan is living the dream and getting coached to play first class cricket at Pakistan's NCA in Lahore, one of the best cricket academies in the world.

The nation that brought the cricketing world the wizardry of Wasim, the destructivesness of Waqar, the guile of Imran, the genius of Fazal and the pure speed of Akhtar may just have uncovered the tallest bowler in the game's history!

A 6'10 fast bowler steaming in raining down reverse swinging yorkers and peppering batsmen with vicious bouncers could be the best thing to happen to the game of crcket in a long time!
