Mohammad Hafeez' s last 9 test scores: 2, 34, 0, 9*, 1, 32, 4, 2, 8. He is clearly struggling in Test Cricket. Doesn't come across as a "Test quality" opener. In this version of the game you need specialists as opposed to utility cricketers. Hafeez is not the answer at the top of the innings. Your views?

I think Azhar, Younis and Akmal are true test players. I have included Akmal because his approach to the passage of play is so vital at times since it refreshes the innings at times when Pak are struggling. I like his positiveness (though at times too ambitious). I like Azhar and Younis for their solidity.
But I think Azhar and Akmal need to assert themselves more often. Making 40-50's will put your team in a good position but will not lead to wins necessarily.

As for Hafeez, I get the feeling that he is not a test player. He has no game plan at test level and his comeback has been terrible. But he still is a quality ODI player. Maybe its time to bring Manzoor into the test side. He deserves it after his 70 odd v Australia

Why don't Pakistan bring Hammad into the team as a no. 5-6 bat. He looked pretty composed in the u19 world cup and that 30 odd he made in the ODI's when the rest were getting out cheaply. Also he can bowl too, though his bowling is not up to the mark yet. But with Waqar around he should improve that with time. He has the height to bowl good medium-fast pace and maybe get some bounce.

Hammad should replace either Hafeez or Taufeeq in the team. Azhar could open batting (as he has done for most part of his career due to early fall of wickets). Then Younis could fit right in to his usual no.3 slot

He may not be a test player but he is one of Pakistans best test players... Haven't got much choice but to try and groom him. Besides there's others in the team who are worser batsmen than Akmal. For example both our openers

Hafeez was the 3rd leading wicket taker from the Pakistan team during this series. He had the best average as a bowler. About time we start judging Hafeez as a genuine all rounder in the test side. Get 2 proper specialist test openers at the top which will release the pressure from his batting . Azhar Ali is an opener by trade so should have limited problems adjusting. He is usually in early in the piece so will know what it feels like. In ODIs there is no problem with Hafeez opening as he is good for the PP overs & helps the balance of the side as he provides a bowling option. In tests his technique is suspect. He doesn't have the ability to concentrate for larger amounts of time. He cannot negotiate with the moving ball & put a "price" on his wicket. By going down the order if he happens to fail with the bat it will be a less concerning issue as he can be judged & assessed as an all rounder. Also, batting will be easier for him at that time if the top order provide solid starts as the ball will be older & softer so he can play his shots and natural game just like he does as an ODI batsmen. He likes to get on top of bowlers. Very instinctive by nature. I feel this will be the best move possible in accommodating Hafeez into the test side without problems being caused due to concerning failure in one particular department.

Hafeez has contributed with the ball if not with the bat. on turning tracks he is an asset specially against windies with the number of lefties they have
