Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Moin Khan has backed Sarfaraz Ahmed to continue leading the Men in Green in all three formats.

While talking to media in Karachi, Moin insisted that this was not the right time to remove Sarfaraz from the captaincy role.

“This is not the opportune moment to remove Sarfaraz from captaincy,” said Moin. “Before taking such a step, it is important to find a suitable alternate.”

Rumours about Sarfaraz being removed from captaincy have been circulating since Pakistan team’s exit from the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup in England and Wales.

Pakistan secured 11 points in nine games, as many as New Zealand scored, but were ousted, from the mega event, on an inferior net run-rate.

The Men in Green had just one win, against hosts England, from first five games with three defeats, including a loss to arch rivals India, and a no-result. They staged a comeback by winning the next four games but still failed to qualify.

The 47-year-old was also not in favour of Head Coach Mickey Arthur’s suggestion about naming leg-spinner Shadab Khan as the captain of limited-overs side.

“I don’t agree with Arthur’s suggestion,” he said. “He should have appointed a deputy for Sarfaraz, in the past, which he didn’t.”

Moin also stated that he was willing to work, in any role, for the betterment of Pakistan cricket, by stating: “My services are always available, because it’s an honour, for Pakistan cricket.”
