ICC CWC 2019 | PAK v WI| 31st May 2019 | Match Thread

Pakistan is going into this first crucial game of WC 2019 with the worst possible position. Having lost 10 ODIs and 1 Warm up game consecutively. They are not assured of their playing XI. The bowlers are struggling big time to strike in the first 10 overs with new balls. WI had historically beaten us on most occasions in World Cups. Out of 10 times we had played against WI we had lost 7 times to them.

They are no pushovers this time as well. They have very explosive batsman in their ranks and also their pace bowling is good as well. Their only weakness is this WC seems to be spin bowling.

WI have 5-6 left handers in their batting lineup so playing Hafeez is a must in my opinion. Pakistan had to decide to go with Shoaib Malik or Asif Ali? Play Imad or Haris? Which pacers to play? Some really big questions ahead of this game. What should be the playing XI in your opinion?

Imad should not play as their are so many left handers in WI squad.

Must start on a winning note v WI. Need to pick up Gayle early otherwise it will be carnage.

Want to see Asif in the side, so Malik should be benched. Haris should play.

 

MUST win game.

Play Asif, no need for Malik.

Amir, Wahab, Hasan, Shadab, Hafeez, Imad. Bowling attack.

If we bat first and score min 275 I'm confident.

Inn Shaa Allah we will win.

 

Really hope to win this game, seems like team has forgotten how to win games.

 

Pakistan isn't that bad that they should be losing to Afghanistan. They need to work on three things. Game awareness, fielding and planning. The batting is good enough, the bowlers need to set plans and play accordingly. Them plans could be regarding field placing, lines and lengths or even planing targets to restrict opposition.

 

Need a spin heavy attack, especially Hafeez and Malik for the lefties.

Think we'll lose this one, but win against England. Here's my expected XI:

Fakhar, Imam, Babar, Sarfraz, Hafeez, Malik, Imad, Shadab, Hasan, Amir, Shaheen

 

And the countless XIs before this in every thread.

 

I am not sure what the 11 is going to be for the 1st match therefore constantly trying to ponder what will it be!!

 

Agree with this 11 except Shaheen./ I would have Wahab Riaz for Shaheen rest fine.

 

And the match is in Trent Bridge.

 

Spinners are the best solution for West Indies big hitters! Lets go with all of Shadab, Imad, Hafeez, Malik, Fakhar/

 

Death overs are crucial. Today WI scored 115 in the last 10.

 

NZ got hammered cus they have all pace attack. They dont have quality spinners whereas Pakistan have a whole lot of spinners capable of pakrofying West Indies big hitters!!

 

Trent Bridge is a tiny field. Spinners will go for plenty too.

Our spinners will be a handful for them tbh. Not worried about WI.

It would be pretty incredible to watch us completely dismantle WI by 8+ wickets or 100+ runs and have the team be like "lolz you all thought we'd suck"

Westindies are hot and cold, if its their day, they will absolutely destroys us.. if not, they will be all out for 100...

One thing is for sure, it wont be a close contest, will be a comfortable win whoever wins it

should open with Imad and aamer, hafeez and shadab will have to play important roll too with the ball.Wahab should come into attack after 25 overs.

 

Mind blowing analysis as usual and I must admit your optimism is a great inspiration in these challenging world cup times for us Pakistanis.

If I could, I would replace Sarfaraz with Shoaib Malik.

Sarfaraz is more of a liability on the team rather than an intelligent captain or a keeper.

 

So the final spot is between Imad & Haris. Hafeez will play for sure

 

Asif should play over Haris.

Best possible team that can play tomorrow. Right to drop Malik, Hasnain and Shaheen.

 

I think Imad is a lock and the final spot is between Asif and Haris.
