once again, as I type, Muhammad Hafeez plays his typical guide to the slip.

How many more times will we see him go back to the pavilion like this?

I like Hafeez and he's bowled well recently but for Test matches you need a specialist, technically accomplished opener. Simple as that

Please name few technically accomplished batsmen in Pakistan right-now. I am really tired of watching these blind front-foot pusher in Pakistani test line-up.

I'll love to see even one batsmen who will not jump on his front-foot before the ball is delivered. Someone who is willing to let the ball come to him.

Why the hate for hafeez.. It was you haters who wanted hafeez to replace misbah. Now that has taken place, you want to remove hafeez? Why?

I don't like this early forward shuffle either, far too many batsmen doing it.

I'd honestly prefer to see Hafeez shift down and Azhar take his spot, but I can't shake the feeling Hafeez is not Test material despite his decent performances with ball and occasionally bat. Otherwise I'd not mind Nasir Jamshed, Khurram Manzoor, Afaq Raheem etc

A long way to go in this series. If he does not score in the remaining games, then I'll lose all the confidence I had in him.

Firstly most of these people other then me were in favor of Misbah to be the test Captain & none of us wanted Hafeez to be Test Captain, hence your statement is completely incorrect.

Even if he score big in this series how comfortable we will to have him open against Dale & Morkal? A batsman who can't handle inswinger & get out of anything that goes out is not a test batsman.

Last time when Pakistan was in Srilanka, Kulushakera was the most difficult bowler for us still we have gone there unprepared, how foolish is this? Not a single batsman is able handle him with confidence. Bring back Inzi & Yusuf, they will show these batsmen how to treat a bowler of Kulushekara class with ease.

it is about time Hafeez has and management realised that he is not test match opener either they bat him at no six or just open with him in ODI'S his technique poor for test match cricket he tries to play leg side as well as lacking patients for test mach cricket.

I'm also very perplexed about the future of Pakistan team. They have no technicaly set batsman like Inzi and Yousuf. We've not a fit bowler except Ajmal. Are we a Test playing nation?

    Yes. Agree with this.

I have said many times, he is simply not a Test match player, but recently he is kind of being forced into a Test match player by being given the Vice Captaincy. Yeah he can bowl a bit but he is by no way shape or form a opener by any means (Something which i have said a lot of times). Either play him much further down the order, or simply he has no space in the Test team and we need to bring in another option, Maybe Nasir Jamshed and give this kid a go, he seems the only decent opener we have got at the moment.

Hafeez is not a Test player and that is quite obvious, no technique or skill with the bat at all.

Very true and very well said.

Well that is our first Problem in all Formats and not just Test matches, because he is not a opener, which is what this Pakistan team seem to think. Pakistans first issue is the Hafeez opening, and if they don't deal with that then just forget about the rest of the batting and there issues. Making him VC was a huge mistake and quite Illogical from the board.

hahahah lolz at this thread... I knew from the very beginning that people will start hating him sooner or later.... Because Hafeez is so selfish. If he could wish he would have played 11 hafeez in one team. Though he is talented but he is too proudy of himself. Pakistan will only go downwards from here unless and untill he is kept to what he can do better.

He needs to warrant a place in the test team to be a VC. He doesn't deserve a place in team so if he want to be VC then surely he can be but from this home.

Mahela Jayawardene: "Kulasekara was outstanding with the new ball. It is always good to see Dilshan getting runs for us, as he gets them so quickly. Quite a few reasons to not enforce the follow-on. We had played only two and a half days on that wicket. Our bowlers had already bowled 60-odd overs. I wanted to give them a rest and wanted to bat Pakistan out of the match. It was all about Test cricket, and not about extra holidays. The weather was a bit of a concern. We have to see that the workload is being monitored as well."

Mohammad Hafeez: "Thumbs up to my team for showing the highest standard of spirit in the field. It is a learning experience for them. We [batsmen] have to work hard in the nets for the next couple of days. Misbah coming back will give us a boost. It was good to see Younis andAsad fighting till the end." No mention of the umpiring from Hafeez

He has no footwork what so ever. Any bit of movement he's poor and any bit of spin he's poor. He hangs his bat out to out swing and he consistently misses balls angling into his pads.

He's horribly out of form and we cannot be doing with this in test cricket. I don't care if he comes onto bowl and gets a few tail-ender wickets. He's an opener and we need an opener.

Afaq Raheem is the perfect man to replace him. He has a good solid technique and is a prolific domestic run scorer. He's with the squad now and he also bowls a bit of off-spin.

You can't be playing a non-specialist opener in Tests, it's that simple.

Hafeez has done a good job over the past year but honestly I think Pakistan have to bite the bullet and get in a specialist opener. Hafeez can do better down at No 5-7 imho

I don't agree with you at all.
Afaq might be a good player but you can't compare him to Hafeez.
His stylish and economical bowling is very good and effective weapon against solid players. He is not going with bat and is not suitable for tests but you can't prefer Afaq to Hafeez.

what are you talking about Afaq is much better Batsman then Hafeez test cricket should be about specialty Afaq Has much better temperament and when he get s start it usually is long innings,he has better average then both openers in first class cricket and has been consistent over the years.

In 2011 he performed great, was it because we faced measly attacks like Bangladesh etc.? Many thought he had improved, but really he hasn't improved at all. When he came back to cricket he played great, so many peoples expectations of him went sky high, he has failed and now they're calling for his head. I have said time and time again, he is nothing more than mediocre. However, I do not "intensely dislike" him, he just frustrates me to the max!

Against teams with weak bowling attacks he does great, but simultaneously against the better teams he can't even manage to get past 20/30? I'm sorry, but this isn't loss of form. Against England he has an average of 25 which is pathetic to say the least, really. As an opener he is supposed to be giving a proper platform for the team to build up on. Rather unsurprisingly, against Bangladesh and West Indies his average shoots up high [36 and 65]. Again, these two teams have a poor bowling attack thus no surprises to see Hafeez's average increase. The average against SL is appalling, 19! Is that what our opener across all three formats should be like?!

The only reason why he is still in the team is because of his bowling, despite his predominant role being batsman. His bowling is 'valuable' for us, and seems the runs he does get are a "bonus", it shouldn't be like this, considering the fact that he is an opening batsman! As bowling is clearly keeping him in the team, his bowling average of 32 since his comeback is still not something to cheer about, exactly. He does not merit a spot in the team as a bowler alone. His averages against the minnows are, obviously, good. Against WI he has an average 19, against Bangladesh he has an average of 14, but he has an average of 252 against England!

Mohammad Hafeez surely is going down the Afridi-route, bowling and getting [a few] wickets with his batting being a bonus. But, his bowling [as shown above] is not enough to justify him a position in the team. Afridi is often criticised of being a minnow basher and that his bowling alone will not give him a place in the team, well, much of the same is the case with Hafeez too.

To mention Hafeez in the same sentence as Saeed Ajmal is a insult to Saeed Ajmal.

Hafeez is no way a opener and there is plenty of options that we could try instead of him as a opener, (For this series we have Afaq Raheem waiting for a chance).

Hafeez opening the innings for Pakistan is a insult to any Pakistani opener that has been or is waiting to come in.

He is a minnow basher and performs mostly against the lesser teams as has been mentioned by NO 1 AFRIDI FAN In many a thread.

It's like something Viv Richards said not long ago, you keep playing someone and sure they will score once or twice. It's the same with Hafeez, they keep playing him eventhough he fails and when he will eventually score, boooom! He has his Opening slot secure for the next 5series.

If anything he should be played in the team as a bowler. (I don't even want him in the Test Team).

    And bowling.
Saeed Ajmal's Economy rate in all formats:
    Test: 2.64
    ODI's: 4.18
    T/20's: 6.17

Mohammed Hafeez Economy rate in all formats:
    Test's: 2.41
    ODI's: 4.06
    T/20's: 6.85

Not better by much in the Economy Rates is he? and Don't even bowl half the overs Saeed Ajmal has too. And don't forget, Saeed Ajmal bowls nearly all his overs in the Powerplay, yet is still up there with best of Economy Rates.
Hafeez does not even come close to Ajmal in the Test format. He don't even bowl half the amount of overs Saeed Ajmal does. Saeed Ajmal is the better wicket Taker, more consistant, and just overall better bowler. I can't even believe im writing all this:facepalm

I think you miss understood. I didn't want to compare Hafeez and Ajmal. Absolutely Ajmal is world's best bowler. But I want to show you the economy rate. I also mentioned that he is not a solid opener even a batsman but we can use him as a bowler and might bat a 6 or 7 number.

one minute you are saying one thing that you can't compare Afaq With Hafeez next minute your comparing his bowling with Ajmal. there is no comparison in both cases.
you are probably right you cannot compare Afaq and Hafeez.Because Afaq is much better batsman then Hafeez and Taufeeq.
    Hafeez's last five innings scores: 22, 13, 21, 20, 4.
    Taufeeq's last five innings scores: 7, 0, 6, 9, 10.

When you have Ajmal and Rehman in Test format, and Afridi and Ajmal in ODI/T20. Then, you don't need the bonus performance from Hafeez (his bowling performance). Time to groom the specialist openers to meet the requirement of the 'struggling' batting line.

You do realize that Hafeez is much much much much much much much more reliable than Afridi in limited-overs formats with the ball?

I agree with the rest but if we can keep Afridi we can certainly keep Hafeez in the LO side.

^ Afridi is more reliable to me than Hafeez. No offense. Afridi can single-handedly win the match by himself - referring 5 wickets. Plus, Afridi is demoted to lower order, and on the other hand, Hafeez is promoted as top order batsman. So, if you have Afridi and Ajmal in ODI/T20, then you don't need Hafeez. There is no need for 'if Afridi can, so can Hafeez' card because the batting line is being exposed very badly, and struggle to chase even in less than 200 runs unfortunately.

Out of three - two specialist spinners are required, and Afridi and Ajmal joins the list. Afridi is game changer bowler, and most importantly, his aggressively bowling has positive impact in defending the lowest target, in comparable to Hafeez who gets the wickets - reliance on the opposition team to endorse risk shots.

Anyhow, it's simple. We are comparing between top order and lower order, and we can't afford to weaken the top order batting line by strengthening the 'already strongest' bowling attack. We need reliable opener, and Hafeez is not one, and certainly, not under pressure batsman either.

    As Salaamu Alaykum!
