Former Chief Selector Inzamamul Haq cost the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) millions, over the course of his three-year tenure as the head of the national selection committee.

According to Daily Express, Inzamam availed monetary benefits amounting to more than PKR 60 million during his stint as chief selector.

Despite receiving a hefty paycheck every month, PKR 1.2 million, the former Pakistan captain failed to unearth new talent as promised otherwise. The Pakistan cricket team still faces a crisis in the opening, spin and all-rounder’s department.

Inzamam had a successful career as a cricketer but his stint as the chief selector is laced with failures. Many allegations including nepotism, destroying careers of many players, one-man show and foreign tours for entertainment were hurled at him. The surprising part about the former Pakistan cricket team captain was that he failed to apologise to the nation in his press conference held yesterday, like captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, but rather heaped praise on the team and termed the performance as good.

The Pakistan batting great assumed responsibility of chief selector in April 2016, for three years, but his contract was extended by three months owing to the 2019 World Cup. As per the contract, he was to be awarded 25% bonus in case of win in a series and 100% in case of winning an ICC event. On Pakistan team’s success in the ICC Champions Trophy IN 2017, he was awarded prize money of PKR 10 million by the govt.

On the other hand, the role of other selectors, in the committee, including Tauseef Ahmed, Wajahatullah Wasti and Wasim Haider was also restricted as Inzamam preferred to run a one-man show.

The former right-handed batsman was also criticised for preferring his nephew Imamul Haq over other players and making him part of the team prematurely. He was later alleged to have adopted various tactics to build the career of Imam. He was also accused of destroying the career of many crickets including Khurram Manzoor and Fawad Alam. Though Inzamam came up with claims of offering opportunities to many players, yet the fact is that most of them had already been highlighted due to the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

He also came under heavy criticism over accompanying the Men in Green on every important foreign trip. Inzamam was part of the tour selection committee till Pakistan’s 2019 World Cup match against India, which kept the captain and coach unhappy. The advice that he offered to the players during the training session also did not please the coaching staff.

You have to look at the level below the national team to find out how good Inzi was. He was developing all the right players. Haider Ali boy was selected for Pindi to play T20 cup. Who was selector of T20 Cup?? Lol it was Inzi. national team level maybe he did not unearth young talent but the talent level is bare. This is something Pakistanis refuse to accept. All the good players in Pakistan have been playing National T20 cup, Pak Cup (50 overs), Emerging Asia Cup or A team.

He tried so many guys in the national team. Nawaz, Talat, Faheem, Fakhar, Shadab, Hassan, Usman Salahuddin, Saad Ali, Abid Ali, Sahibzada Farhan, Usman Shinwari, Umar Amin. Literally everyone apart from Sohaib Maqsood and Fawad Alam although they are permanent members in domestics. Only player of the top of my head who have not been selected is Kamran Ghulam. Zafar Gohar was actually given a chance to play for Emerging Asia Cup in 2017, Umar Siddiq played against England Lions and Zimbabwe A in 2016, Haris Rauf is very new but still he was a part of Pak Cup. Pakistan Cup squads and National T20 squads are selected by national selectors.

Nothing really. The Op is talking about how much money he took. I was paying tribute to the man. This issue is more or less PCB’s business. They would have never appointed him if they never had the money to support him.

He wasn't as bad as he is being made out to he. I remember his predecessors and how they kept failing TTF and parchis around and before people say imam, during the days of jamsheed, farhat and shehzad imam looked like an extremely promising under 19 player who was touted as a future opener.

Inzi wasn't as bad as he is being made but worst of all is attacking him based on his pay cheque. What should he have done? Say no, I am going to work for free bcz I can feed myself and my family on patriotism. How many of us would have done that? Pakistan are actually unrealistic enough to believe this and criticize this. Its not his fault the job is so high paying. Its the PCB and the patron in chief and the constitution of PCB fault.

Inzi was being hailed as a legend when we won 2017 trophy along with mickey.

Inzi did give chances to Young players and did groom them and made a pretty balanced team which had a good blend of both. The article seems overly biased and detached.

It is the cruelest of facts that Pakistan's sports journalism is worse than the village newspaper with zero insight on the game and the players.

This is such a whack, propaganda-y article.

"Despite receiving a hefty paycheck every month, PKR 1.2 million, the former Pakistan captain failed to unearth new talent as promised otherwise. The Pakistan cricket team still faces a crisis in the opening, spin and all-rounder’s department."

This is wrong on so many levels: we definitely unearthed new talent underneath him (Shaheen being the most important), crisis in opening is only recent (Fakhar and Imam avg 45+ and is the best opening pair since god knows when), spin (Shadab is there and overall talent is lacking), it's not his fault there aren't any decent all-rounders (tried Yamin, Fahim, Anwar).

    So dumb.

This is nothing but a hit piece on Inzamam. There has been a storing lobby against him and people have cooked up a lot of stories to make him seem like the villain. Deflection from blame heading towards Sarfraz.

Actually this is not true, Inzy is the first CS who has been paid 1.2 million per month (nobody was ever paid this much as CS before). And I still remember there was a deadlock in between him & PCB on his pay and he only agreed to work and leave AFG (as coach) if PCB will agree to pay him as much as he wants.

Article stats the facts, what it has to do with Sarfraz (not that I support him and want him to continue as captain).

Again thats on PCB. It was PCB that approached him and if he stated I want this much then its PCB to be blamed if they said yes but he was not a bad chief selector. The other options of nepotism are worse. Who is the other option?

    This!!

Inzi was fine. Nothing wrong with any selections. Fans are very fickle. One minute they are like 'please bring in Sahibzada Farhan in, he plays like Sehwag!' Next minute they are like 'HACK'. I'm satisfied with Inzi. It's not his fault the players that fans want in the team are railu kattas. Only someone who has played cricket can explain why so and so cannot be successful. We as fans just look at stats and declare the player as next Viv or Lara but when they fail we move onto the next player.

Remember Babar Azam was averaging 27 in first class cricket after 19 matches but 5 years later he slayed a guy among the top 5 fast bowlers the sport has ever produced. Cricket is not all about stats.

Seriously what the hell is this??

Was he supposed to do this job for free? What about the journalists who get their expenses paid by PCB for doing nothing apart from reporting false stuff and ask wrong questions at the presser??

This is silly. Inzamam did bring in lots of talent.

Pakistan Team: Babar Azam (Test), Mohammed Nawaz, Mohammed Asghar (Tests), Usman Salahuddin (Tests), Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Saad Ali (Test and Odi), Abid Ali (Odi), Shan Masood (Test comeback and Odi), Sahibzada Farhan (T20s), Hussain Talat (T20s and Odis), Faheem Ashraf, Hassan Ali, Imam Ul Haq, Mohammed Rizwan (Odi and T20 comeback), Junaid Khan (Odi comeback), Mohammed Amir (Test Comeback), Iftikhar Ahmed (Tests), Sohail Khan (Comeback), Haris Sohail (Comeback), Sami Aslam (Test and Odi Comeback), Sharjeel Khan (Tests and Odi comeback), Mir Hamza (Test), Umar Amin (Odi and T20 comeback), Wahab Riaz (Comeback), Shaheen Afridi, Mohammed Hasnain (Odi and T20), Ahmed Shehzad (Comeback), Umar Akmal (Odi Comeback), Kamran Akmal (Odi and T20 comeback), Bilal Asif (Test), Rahat Ali (Comeback), Asad Shafiq (Odi Comeback), Amear Yamin (Odi and T20 comeback), Rumman Raees (T20 and Odis), Yasir Shah (Odi comeback), Mohammed Hafeez (Test Comeback, Odi and T20 comeback), Usman Shinwari (Odi and T20), Asif Ali (T20 and Odi), Mohammed Abbas (Odi and Tests), Asif Zakir (Odis), Amad Butt (T20), Waqas Maqsood (T20), Saad Naseem (T20).

ACC Emerging Asia Cup squad members over past 3 years: Zeeshan Malik, Usama Mir, Hammad Azam, Imran Butt, Zafar Gohar, Sameen Gul, Ahmed Bashir, Imran Butt, Musa Khan, Mohammed Ilyas, Suleman Shafqat.

Just for information many players overlap, some have been in A team and National squad or A team and Emerging squad but to save time I included everyone's name once only.

Some more players; Saif Badar, Umair Masood, Rizwan Hussain, Nihal Manzoor, Imran Rafiq, Haider Ali, Rohail Nazir, Ahsan Ali, Danish Aziz, Umer Khan, Haris Rauf, Bismillah Khan, Awais Zia, Zia ul Haq, Waleed Ahmed, Nabi Gul, Sadaf Hussain and Nauman Ali were also selected for either or both of Pakistan Cup and National T20 cup squads.

Only players left are Kamran Ghulam and Omair Bin Yousaf. Remaining players who do not make this list will be in a PSL squad or in the U-19 squad. This shows all the talent is in and around the scheme of things.

National Team, A team, Emerging Asia Cup, National T20 and Pakistan Cup squads are all selected by the national selectors.

Inzi was good want he? You were all unhappy, now please enjoy MHK's selections.
