I've wanted to see Khalid Latif in a green shirt for a long time but he's never got a prolonged run. Today was a flat deck but I like what I saw. He can hit big slogs and he can hit proper shots too. Plus he knows how to work the ball around.

He looks a lot better option than Shahzad, Khurram, Hafeez (without bowling).

Khalid averages 45 in List A and 37 in First Class. He has 35 domestic centuries.

I think he deserves a run.

This. His technique is not worth watching. Plus, he is 30 years old - we need to build a young team - not take 50 steps backwards.

    Should be dropped. Not needed.

Khalid @ 3 is big no.

If we can bat @6 then maybe. He can slog & doesn't have worry about spinners.

I don't really follow him but wasn't that impressed with his innings today tbh. Maybe try him in ODI

He can't hit big with pressure which you saw today.

He can hit under pressure that not the issue. Just that he can't hit spinners & needs pace on the ball to hit on the leg side. He is typical number 6.

He can be sensible Afridi for few years atleast.

He is 30. Do we want to get rid of these old players or bring more in. Age is also a factor.

He's not the best batsmen in our domestic circuit that we really need him.

Age for a batsman is immaterial. As long as he is good enough fielder & run between wicket.

If he was a great batsmen, then we could ignore age but this guy is a mediocre hack.

Not impressed. On a flat track chasing 11-12 an over to make 46 off 41 is criminal. Pakistan lost by 20 in the end.
If u take his innings away then could have needed 66 off 41. Not a bad equation for a chasing side.
His slow batting was another reason why Pakistan lost.
Can give him a shot but it's not really what Pakistan need.
You need players who strike at 130+ in t20s not 110

Technically not that good looks to slog everything to midwicket as looked pretty weak on offside & we need to invest on future players rather than playing oldies

He mainly plays across the line and slogs. Won't survive much in tougher conditions.

Do I look like a selector to you lol.
All I see is what's shown to me in front of a TV and so far I am not impressed. Surely there must be other players out there if PCB goes looking for them. If selector want to play him then do it by all means but he's not going to win many games I can see that

On the flattest of tracks he was playing ugly cross hoicks. Not at all impressed with run a ball effort. In fact his batting did not keep up with the required run rate.

He won't survive, he'll get found out easily and an average of 37 in our domestic structure doesn't really set the world on fire.

In First Class he averages 45 with with 11 centuries and a HS of 254* He's more suited to the longer forms that limited overs

Exactly, if you can consistently perform, you should be in the team unlike our situation where guys like Malik, Hafeez and others are in the team with very mediocre and inconsistent performance.

He actually did well enough IMO, SR of 113 and played through the innings, allowing other guys to come in and play their shots without worrying about the scoreboard getting bogged down.

Played a decent supporting role actually, problem is Sharjeel and Umar got out after good starts, had they kicked on we could well be praising Latifs innings as the perfect foil.

    Lol.

You act like 30 is old? Theoretically he could play till 2020 at least, some batsmen play easily into their late 30's and still play well too.

Two things about Pakistan cricket fans that kinda grate me.

    1) Obsession with talent.
    2) Obsession with playing/supporting people who are no older than 19, under the guise of building for the future, only to call for said kids to be dropped forever after 2 matches at international level.

hardly any pak players use real ages, as a general rule add 2 to 3 years on to the age, and then deduct 2 to 3 years off retirement age because pak players usually have very poor fitness standards.

so latif is basically a 32 or 33 year old who may play for 2 or 3 more years, and in a format where he may get 6 or 7 games a year.

I think you mixed up his List A average with First Class...

    http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-world-twenty20-2016/content/player/41046.html

He's more suited to 50 overs cricket. I believe he's the only one who has gotten a double century in List A Cricket in Pakistan.

I'd rather give a chance to Fawad Alam. Maintaining a 58 average is no joke.

If Khalid averages 37 in our domestic then I'm for certain he won't survive in the International Arena for too long, we have far better players who should be given a chance instead in Tests... However Khalid in ODIs is something I wouldn't mind seeing again. I remember he made 64 odd against NZ in 2009 Abh Dhabi.

If he scores 30 runs he gives away half of them in the field. There's no real value in persisting with someone who is average batsman and poor in the field. Better to go off with an average batsman who will at least save you runs in the field.

Him, Sharjeel, Sami, Irfan are crap fielders who give away easy runs - they ran a four on Sami's fielding yesterday. Therefore, these guys either have to be exceptionally good at what they do (apart from eating and burping) or they must be give way to young blokes who run around in the field.
