Big jump in both the overall and Pakistan lists for Malik who sits just behind Afridi now.

Umar Akmal overtakes Hafeez and is now the leading run scorer in T20 Internationals from Pakistan. He has overtaken Hafeez with his half century today. He moves up to 4th in the overall list in this format behind McCullum, Guptill and Dilshan.

Shoaib Malik overtakes Shahid Afridi and is now the 3rd in the list of most runs scored by a Pakistani in this format. He also jumps 3 places in the overall list going past Kohli, Watson and Afridi.

I'd rather see these lists sorted by average or strike rate... and even better average multiplied by strike rate.

A hundred times more valuable than number of runs....

Nice to see Umar akmal top this list though...

Average does not mean anything in T20s. It is the S/R.
Just like in test matches your #9, #10 & #11 remain Not-Out most of the times, here in T20s your #5, #6 and #7 remain not out most of the times. So the Not Outs inflate the averages.

Here is the list of T20 batsmen (>700 run) sroted by S/R.

That's a good list. ... means more than most runs for sure.

I still think average is important. As the more you can sustain your hitting the better it will be.

It would be interesting to see average x strike rate with a qualification of x (500?) number of runs to exclude those at those at 9 10 11 etc. ...

The higher the strike rate the more inflation there will be on the average thus boosting the position of those that score quickly.

A perfect example is finch vs Afridi.... the list above puts them equal... but the reality is that finch is plenty more valuable than Afridi from purely a batting perspective

Yes - from batting perspective but Afridi adds to his value with his bowling. I don't Afridi would have been in the team if it wasn't for his bowling.

The biggest anomaly in the above data is the boosting of averages by NOs....

If the proportion of NOs is greater than 20% of total innings then u have to discount the value of their ranking....

Misbah is affected by this as 13/34 innings are NOs.

Yes that's right but it can't more than a freaky coincidence. I mean, the my list contains the career stats since 2005/6. ICC ranking only goes back last 12 or months - or is it 3 years?

That is exactly why you can not look at the averages.

As you can see above there is hardly any variance between the respective rankings. Almost every player is within 10 places on my "crude" ranking versus the world ranking...

And where the difference is greater than 10... there is a straightforward explanation.

The only one I cant explain is the one "Blessed in all facts"!!!!

Or it could just be a freaky coincidence...

but if you look at the retired players... No once can argue that

    Pietersen
    M Hussey
    White
    Jaywardene
    Kallis

    etc werent "up there"....

Gayle is 4th in the AV x SR list and 7th in the Rankings.

    4-7 = -3.

I did this in a rush so there will be some inaccuracies ( I hope you dont audit this!!!)... but nothing that will take away from the general point.

Looks like its a good proxy for ODI also.

Only includes those with Min 200 runs
World ranking is based on putting in order those with over 2000 runs.

Hafeez will be looking to close in On Duminy in the overall list. He is also only 76 runs away from Umar Akmal and could end up as our leading run scorer in this format.

Shoaib Malik will be looking to break in to the top 10 of the overall list, Just 20 behind Eion Morgan. He will also have his eye on the top spot in the Pakistani charts.
