As the Test series draws to a close, Pakistan return to London where they last experienced success. That match was at Lords and this match is at the Oval which is a happy hunting ground for Pakistan.

England batted first and their much vaunted top order collapsed again. Despite getting starts both Cook and Root capitulated to Pakistan’s pacers taking half the team with them. England were 110/5 after less than 30 overs, Pakistan went into the lunch break the happier of the two teams.

England needed one man to stand up and score a century with the others playing around him to build successive partnerships. Moeen Ali was the one to step up and Woakes and Bairstow were the ones who kept him company.

Pakistan won the early part of the day but England will be the happier team going into Day 2 with a first innings total of 328 and 1 Pakistani wicket down for only 3 runs. Pakistan sent Yasir Shah in to play the role of the night watchman so England will be looking to induce another Pakistani collapse by knocking Yasir over early.

If Pakistan can post a competitive total in their first innings then this could be another back and forth match between these two evenly matched teams.
