“Even from a critical point of view I think we are among the top three favourites for the World Cup. England are always favourites given the brand of cricket they are playing while India have developed a very good ODI side and have some great spinners in their line-up,” Hafeez said on Friday. Hafeez also insisted that the single format being used in the World Cup would go in favour of Pakistan since they always had this tendency to pick up their performances late into any tournament.

“In the group system teams usually don’t get second chances and remember in 2007 both India and Pakistan were eliminated in the first round,” he said. Hafeez said he was confident about Pakistan’s chances in the World Cup since they have a good combination of players and have ample resources in pace and spin.

Also, he is expecting Pakistan to start poorly and then pick up at later part of the tournament
    What a legend.

Negative mindset and low expectations help senior players perpetually avoid taking on any responsibility. Seems like he is already predicting early losses with the hope that young players may later win us some games a la Fakhar and Hassan Ali in CT. This is nothing new though. Hopefully the young players don't absorb this negative mindset from the seniors.

He got two right. So according to him we will suck against good teams which we are playing early and then try to pick up by doing some minnow bashing. Let's face it. He couldn't say we would struggle big time and we are mediocre so he made up this long story.

Number 2 and 4 are certified chokers and never won big game in WC. Yes, they will crush opposition easy peasy, no trouble, but at KO stage they never performed SO FAR.

I dont think India can be considered no. 1 favourite to win the title. In my opinion, Aus are top favourites to win the title!!

    Exactly!

The amount time, money and resources spent on this guy over the last, I don't know how many decades, would've turned a galli mohallah type player into an international icon.

I am expecting a Pakistan VS Australia final this time and I think Pakistan would somehow trump Australia bulldozer this time! They will have to develop some sort of strategy in order to counter Aus and India. India can be countered in my opinion if you dont expose your spinners too much to them in my opinion! You need 4 pacers against India! Whereas, against Australia they will need their bowling attack to fire big time specially new ball pair Amir and Shaheen!!

The funny thing is how delusional these guys are. They feel they have a God-given right to be selected because they have “experience” and are “senior” players.

Never mind the experience has been accumulated due to nepotism and favours.

lol - an attractive mix of logic and fantasy.

With Smith and Warner back in the side creating an over supply of inform top order batsmen (resulting in Handscomb shown the door), a potent bowling attack with Starc, and a traditionally world class fielding supported by the confidence of recent victories - are some of the factors based on which, one can logically assert that Australia has a good chance of reaching the final.

But the fantasy of Pakistan reaching the final seems to be purely based on time spent on Musallah for divine help, and hope, that we some how click at the right time and right venue to ride on the self righteous horse of our classical unpredictable predictablity, is a real tease. :)

I gave a like to your post due to innocence and simplicity of your mindset.

Let’s hope insanity prevails and your words come true.

There is chance for Pakistan cus World Cup is played in England where we have always performed well in our cricket history! Those conditions suit our pacers particularly Amir! There is chance for Pakistan cus we can counter india by not exposing too much spin to them and Australia will be the only hurdle in our way but we will have to make a strong game plan in order to tackle Australia particularly and india as well!!
