    Not restricted to cricket only.

Who is it that rolls back some wonderful memories for you, whose voice alone can imprint a moment into your brain, whose hysteria can elevate an event to one of pure euphoria?

My choice would be John Motson or Motty as he's usually known. His longevity speaks for himself (FA cup matches etc). I am not a football fanatic (don't follow it whatsoever anymore apart from WCs) but as this writer says, he had an "increasingly annoying mastery of total gibberish". Nothing said was particularly insightful of strategies employed but his lead-up frenzy always kept me on the edge of my seat during a game.

Never hid his bias towards England when they were involved but never really grated on me, never came across as having double standards:

Usually the excitement dies down after a controversial incident but Motty always made it seem like more was to come:

John Motson was v good. Also Ron Atkinson had a fantastic commentary style.

For cricket, can’t beat the classic Richie Benaud or Tony Greig.
