The twenty fourth meeting of PCB Governing Board was held on 23rd October 2012 at Abbottabad under the Chairmanship of Ch. M. Zaka Ashraf with M/s. Aamir Nawab, Shakil Sheikh, Ch. M. Anwar, Intikhab Alam, Javed Miandad and Subhan Ahmad (COO) were in attendance.

Before the meeting, Chairman PCB and the members of BOG visited Abbottabad Stadium where they received a briefing on the status and requirements of the stadium.
Later in the board meeting following decisions were taken:

    1. Appreciating the Abbottabad’s point of view, a budget of Rs.12.5 millions was approved by the Board of Governors for the upgradation and development work in the stadium. It was decided that besides other areas, a boundary wall will be constructed around the stadium and green slopes will be built to facilitate the spectators.

    2. The Board of Governors received an update on the cricket stadium being built in Islamabad. This stadium, when complete, with a capacity of 50,000, will be the largest cricket stadium in Pakistan. For this purpose the PCB has already taken over a piece of land measuring 35 acres in Islamabad. The board unanimously decided to name the stadium after Mohtarma Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

    3. The BOG received a presentation on the planned Twenty20 Pakistan Premier League. The board was updated on the progress thus far and a roadmap was shared with them. The board appreciated it as a positive initiative for the revival of international cricket in Pakistan.

    4. To ensure best security protocols for the international teams, the BOG unanimously approved the purchase of bullet proof buses. The members noted that the step would enable the PCB to achieve higher security measures for the teams visiting Pakistan in future.

    5. The Board endorsed the decision to use Kookaburra balls in PCB domestic tournaments, terming it a positive step for the improvement of domestic cricket in Pakistan. The BOG observed that PCB is concentrating on development of domestic cricket and lauded the efforts of Chairman PCB in this regard.

    6. Since the last BOG meeting a number of resolutions had been passed by circulation. All of these resolutions were tabled and ratified by the board.

PPP will most probably not be in power when/if the ground is completed so I dont get why they have agreed on naming it after Motarma Shaheed Benazir Bhutto already..

50,000 capacity is going to be a big challenge in itself, let's see when it actually gets underway and when they plan to complete it by. The place is beautiful now only if they could do justice to it and make a really good viewing stadium out there. Seeing is believing after all!

As for the name, if they could have it their way, then every other thing in Pakistan would be named after her!

Why not let corporations bid for the naming rights?

Absolutely no surprise. Infact I'm surprised they didn't name a stadium after Benazir Bhutto sooner.

Corporations may be reluctant to invest in a stadium in a country that has not seen international cricket for a number of years - and there are issues such as militancy, corruption and electricity crisis that may be off-putting.

However I'm sure some Pakistani companies would invest in the naming rights - this would help the PCB recoup some of their investment into the stadium.

And keep in notice that the initiative for this stadium was taken by former PCB cahirman Zaka Ashraf!
There was no hype about it in his time and media never told that after the May 11 Elections the new government stopped the construction! and now when its resumed..media is crediting it to Sethi!

How about naming the stadium after edhi, chippa or Abdul kadeer, people who have done something for Pakistan. Why name it after a politician who has made zero contributions to Pakistan? Pathetic stuff.

PPPP is only living on ZAB and Benazir's name. That's all what they have now.

When will it be completed anyway? In 2050? And I thought it would have been completed by now.

See friends its not about naming the things on politicians.. its just as simple as everyone in his tenure wants to name things so that when he leaves people shuould remember his initiatives as well..

Here we are not talking about political parties or stuff we are talking about pure cricket and the initiative taken for the making Pakistani cricket more better and creating a space to invite other teams to our home ground. So former Chairman PCB took nyc step but he was not supported and was not credited and the people who had a concern regarding names so the name was not finalized yet and people like us can suggest rather than criticizing the good work.
