Cricinfo and other news outlets are reporting that the Pakistan ODI squad for the Ireland and England ODI games has been announced.

ODI mainstays like Ahmed Shahzad, Asad Shafiq, Irfan and Sohaib have all been dropped alongside players like Rahat, Zafar and Anwar Ali. Players like Zafar, Rahat and even Anwar Ali haven't really had enough chances to show what they've got in this format.

Irfan's exclusion isn't a surprise give his overall fitness but over the last two series he's taken 10 wickets in 6 games with 4 of the games against England. He took 7 wkts @ 25 in 4 games against England on UAE tracks so you'd think he would be a good bet against England in England. But he's been dropped.

In his place comes Gul who hasn't impressed at any level for a while. The selectors could have take a bit of a gamble with someone else. Even Junaid Khan who would suit these conditions.

The other new and returning names to make the squad are Sami Aslam, Sharjeel Khan, Yasir Shah, Hasan Ali and Mohammad Nawaz.

The inclusion of Shoaib Malik away from Asia is puzzling when you have Imad Wasim and Mohammad Nawaz there too.

Overall the squad is good but other than Sharjeel they lack the power hitting to challenge England's big hitters consistently.

Pakistan's ODI squad: Azhar Ali (capt), Sharjeel Khan, Sami Aslam, Mohammad Hafeez, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Umar Gul, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Nawaz
