Fast bowler Mohammad Amir has returned to the side and has replaced Waqas Maqsood.

Asif Ali and Sahibzada Farhan have been drafted in the side that is presently involved in One-Day Internationals, while the players returning home following the 50-over matches are: Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood.

Asif had a successful Mzansi Super League in South Africa where he scored 150 runs at a strike-rate of over 180 for the Cape Town Blitz. In a 16-match T20I career, Asif has scored 237 runs at a strike-rate of just under 140.

Farhan has scores of 0, 39 and one in his three T20I innings, but he has scored 452 runs in 22 T20 matches at a strike-rate of under 110.

Chairman of Pakistan cricket selectors, Inzamam-ul-Haq, said: “Once again, the selectors have gone ahead with the policy of maintaining consistency and retaining a winning combination.

“While our focus is very much on this year’s ICC Cricket World Cup, we cannot forget that the ICC T20 World Cup is in Australia in the second half of 2020. So, we need to give as much exposure and experience to our up and coming players as possible, but without compromising on the assignments in hand.”

    Hmmm..

The point will have to be the same add runs and restrict the opposition by striking early both jobs our XI has struggled to do.

I love it how they act as if T20s are so important. Shoaib Malik needs to play otherwise we will die.

Don't see the point of Farhan and Talat. Better to try someone new.

Good to have Asif Ali back. Let him play freely at least in T20s.

Pakistan is the only team that takes T20s seriously. Play T20s as if they are Tests and vice versa.

It's because the longer the game format, the higher are the chances to get the crappy team exposed.

We simply don't have the mental caliber, skill, patience and art to be able to play longer formats.

Many of our former cricketers have in other words looked down upon T20 players yet our players don’t listen, surely as a cricketer you will want an Imran Khan to recognise your performance or Wasim Akram to recognise your performance and they will only do that if you perform in Tests because they know the degree of difficulty as they have played before. In T20s the mindset changes, suddenly Faheem starts bowling 140 - if I was coach would have kicked him out on the basis of just this also it’s easy for Pakistan because the bowling is loaded and the batting is not a problem, captaincy is also easier because the game is short.

Pakistan is the goat T20 team but is that we want? I for one feel ashamed of this despite being a T20 era fan. The two lords Test matches and Oval Test are matches I will remember for such a long time, even an Odi series win is satisfactorily as long as the opponent is good but any T20 win unless it’s against India should not please anyone.

    It’s a double edge sword.

It’s both good and bad to have a gun T20 team but a crappy ODI and Test teams.

Bad because the lack of quality and reasons you posted above.

But it’s also good to have a gung-ho T20 team because this is most likely the future.

Not many of you guys may remember or even know but the test matches used to be a six day game. The fourth day used to be a rest day. And the games were drawn more often. I have vivid memories of that era.
And it used to be an 8 ball over before that.

These days, mostly test matches are over in 3 to 4 days.

So perhaps Test matches will changed to shorter formats - perhaps 70 overs each innings, ODI’s may be taken over by T20 and we have already started T10 as a candidate to take over the existing T20.

    God knows what future holds?
F5 and eventually a super over as an entire match?

And I remembered ODIs in UK used to be of 60 overs each side instead of 50.

And 150 was considered a good defend-able total.

Brain says 3-0 to SA now, but heart is with Pakistan so I will stick to my guns and give Pakistan a chance to take solace in the last game.
