Interesting move. Hafeez with his bowling, especially to lefties is something that will boost our attack which is very reliant on Yasir Shah. Hafeez usually bats well in the UAE so this may not be a bad move.

Hafeez, Imam, Azhar, Asad, Babar, Usman, Sarfaraz, Faheem, Yasir, Hasan, Abbas

Not surprised about Hafeez being added, as Bilal is neither.

Hafeez can actually hold an end up while the pacers and Yasir can be rotated around.

Even his batting is not that bad in the SC, averaging just under 40 in Tests.

Pakistan will be sending Mohammad Hafeez to Dubai for the two-match Test series against Australia, commencing from October 7, on "the first possible flight", the spokesperson for the country's cricket board said on Monday (October 1). Since his axing from the Asia Cup squad, the 37-year-old all-rounder returned to domestic cricket and has been putting up performances.

In his most recent first-class match for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited against Peshawar, he scored a double-century and picked up four wickets to help his side win the contest by an innings and 105 runs. Hafeez has also been in form with the ball as his off-spin has garnered him 12 wickets in three matches at an average of 15.58.

"The national selection committee and team management have decided to include Hafeez for two-match Test series against Australia," the PCB spokesperson said. Hafeez's last outing in whites for Pakistan was during the four-match Test series in England in 2016. He failed to leave a mark during the series as he scored 102 runs in six innings - including two ducks - before being dropped for the last Test at The Oval.

Pakistan's selection for the recently concluded Asia Cup, in which they were beaten twice by India and were knocked out by Bangladesh in the last Super 4 game, was heavily criticised. Pakistan had included only two specialist spinners and put as many as six pacers for a tournament in the UAE where wickets are slow and tend to assist spinners. The exclusion of Hafeez was the focal point of every discussion throughout the tournament.

Hafeez's Test batting average goes up by 13.53 runs to 52.75 in the UAE from his overall average. But, his bowling numbers are not that impressive there. He averages 39, almost five runs more than his overall, with the ball in his hand and his strike rate also jumps up to 90.66 from 76.

Good move, hope he doesn't open, play in lower middle order and support Yasir from other end.

He could be more effective than Shadab I reckon.

I think Mickey must have a good look this Bilal guy and odds are high he didnt like him, therefore, Hackfeez is back. Not a bat call.

First I was thinking to slot him in the middle order, but since its UAE and he has a monstrous records in the desert. Therefore, he might be opening with Azhar, which will allow us to play with 3 pacers (due to Mickey's obsession with pace) and Yasir. Hafeez will be 2nd spin option.

Looking at what Lyon did (took 8 wickets) in side match so far, I would go with spin heavy attack and have Yasir, Shadab and Hafeez rather than going with 3 pacers. Because pacer wouldn't trouble Aussies much in UAE.

It doesn't matter who the 4th bowler is.

As long as we have Abbas-Wahab-Yasir-Hafeez in our attack we should be fine

This is why I left that 11th spot blank. I don't mind Shadab but he didn't perform in the Asia Cup so I'm not sure if he should play or not.

Hassan Ali should be there as 4th bowler as his skiddy length and stuff will provide breakthroughs in the middle phase and when its reverse swinging a bit.

In my opinion 5th bowler shouldn't be impotent, because he would be expected to bowl when your main bowlers are jaded. More importantly shouldn't release the pressure and give away easy singles or boundaries. Pacer wouldnt be able to bowl longer if needed, therefore its better to go with 3 spinners.

I wish if we had a full-time left arm spinner like Asghar or Hassan, but our selection is never near perfect.

Him too, any of the three who could spin the bowl, which a spinner is supposed to do unlike players like Imad.
