England started the last day in position of authority leading by 300+ runs on a pitch which was still very good for batting even on the 5th day. Cook had made it clear that they will bat on and are not declaring overnight. England started the day where they left last evening. Moeen Ali took Yasir Shah to sword in the first over of the day and hit him for a four and 2 sixes. Their intentions were very clear. Bairstow was soon out for well made 83 in the second over of the Day caught in front by Sohail Khan. After that England batted for a couple of more overs and declared their innings 342 runs ahead.

Pakistan were left with 84 overs to get these 342 runs or save the game by playing these overs. The pitch was looking very flat and very good for batting even on the last day. Pakistan started their innings in the usual fashion by a familiar failure from their senior opener Mohammed Hafeez. In the 6th over of Pakistani innings Hafeez pulled a short ball from Broad to the only man on the leg side boundary at square leg. Hafeez accuracy in finding the fielder was so excellent that Pakistan Olympic Association might be thinking what he is doing in England, he should be in Rio representing Pakistan in shooting competition. Hafeez's horror show continues. So far he had scored 102 runs in 6 innings of 3 Test matches. Pakistani selectors had a lot of work to do in this regard.

After his exit Azhar & the young Sami Aslam combined for a calm partnership. Pakistan went to lunch on 69/1. Both Azhar & Sami were looking very comfortable out there and Pakistani fans had no doubt that Pakistan can bat the rest of 62 overs with ease. They had no idea what is going to hit them.

After lunch England bowlers started finding some reverse swing. Not much but enough to trouble the Pakistani batsmen. Azhar went in the 10th over after lunch to Moeen Ali. Spin has always been his weaker point. Soon after Azhar's departure the door was wide opened by England. First it was Younis caught behind by Anderson. Then soon after it was Captain cool Misbah. Suddenly Pakistan was reeling at 124/4. Asad Shafiq who was on a pair came to join Sami. But once again he miraculously missed a straight ball by Woakes and was given out for a duck. Thus having the honor of taking a pair in this Test.

Pakistani batsmen came & went in such a hurry that in a flash Pakistan were 9 down for 150 odd runs and staring down the barrel. The last pair of Sohail Khan & Rahat Ali resisted for a while but they couldn't avert the inevitable. England won with a big margin of 141 runs and took 2-1 lead in 4 match series with the last test to be played in Oval.

This was only the 49th instance in 2,212 tests of a team losing the game with a 100+ runs lead going into the 2nd innings. The only positive for Pakistan in this game ws batting of the 20 year old opener Sami Aslam & No.3 Azhar Ali. Sami Aslam batted with discipline and showed excellent temperment for the longest format of the game. It is too early but I think he can play for a long time for Pakistan in future.
