Pakistan 16-member Test Squad for WI series announced.

    254027.jpg

Eighteen-year-old Shadab Khan has broken into the Pakistan Test squad, 10 days after making his T20 international debut. Misbah-ul-Haq was named captain, as expected, for the three Tests in the West Indies starting April 21 in Kingston.

Four other uncapped Test players, apart from Shadab, were included in the squad - Usman Salahuddin, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Asghar - while Ahmed Shehzad and Shan Masood returned to the side.

As many as seven players out of the 17 that toured Australia in December-January didn't find a place this time: Sharjeel Khan, Sohail Khan, Sami Aslam, Rahat Ali, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Nawaz and Imran Khan.

"The Test team has been selected keeping in mind the conditions in West Indies and the recent performances of players during the domestic and international season," chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said. "The team is a fine blend of experience and youth and believe that team will do well in the tour."

While Shadab foxed the West Indies batsmen in all four T20Is recently, Salahuddin was picked to strengthen the middle order, and Abbas and Hasan beefed up the pace attack that also comprised Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz. The spin attack would consist of Yasir Shah and the uncapped left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar, who toured Australia as back-up for Yasir.

Shehzad last played a Test on the tour of Sri Lanka in 2015 and was not part of the national side since the World T20 due to disciplinary issues. He returned to the T20I and ODI sides recently, picked for the ongoing West Indies tour. Masood, on the other hand, last played a Test last July against England. He has been among the runs recently in domestic one-day matches in Pakistan, for United Bank Limited in the Departmental One Day Cup and for Islamabad in the Regional One Day Cup.

Pakistan Test squad Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Ahmed Shehzad, Azhar Ali, Shan Masood, Babar Azam, Younis Khan, Asad Shafiq, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk & vice-capt), Usman Salahuddin, Yasir Shah, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Asghar, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Abbas

    Pakistan squad changes:

IN: Ahmed Shehzad, Shadab Khan, Shan Masood, Usman Salahuddin, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Abbas

OUT: Sharjeel Khan, Sohail Khan, Sami Aslam, Rahat Ali, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Nawaz, Imran Khan

Yeah that's a positive step. But one of Sohail Khan & Imran Khan should be there in the squad.

Imran Khan is our best pacer since 2014 in tests.

Amir & Wahab getting free rides. They don't warrant a place due to their performances.

Muhammad Amir only playing due to hype around him. Selectors should not treat him like he is special. He had snatched the place of deserving bowlers.

Yup agree on those free rides. Can still understand fitness excuse for Sohail Khan... but Imran has clearly been better than the likes of Wahab and Amir and has no fitness or disciplinary issues.

Too many spinners which is unusual to see for West Indian conditions... okay they will get some assistance but its not like we'll have rank turners like India or even Sri Lanka.

Shan Masood ahead of Fawad Alam is a joke. Not sure why wouldn't you consider Fawad Alam? Shocking.

How can you drop Imran Khan? Quite unfair, as he has been our best Test fast bowler.

Nawaz should have replaced Yasir or Asghar. Nawaz has the best Test bowling average among our spinners, and still got dropped. He would have enjoyed these WI pitches. He can bat as well.

One of our worst selectors ever, Mr. Inzamam

Shan Masood is nothing special & Fawad has been treated unfairly but they have nothing to do with one another. One is an opener and the other is a middle order batsmen. Babar and Usman were selected ahead of Fawad not Shan. Also it really shouldn't be a surprise since Fawad wasn't even in the training camp.

Thought Fawad would get his chance now that Misbah is going to be leaving but alas.

Sad to see Imran Khan miss out too - think we're one pacer less in this squad, but I guess there is Abbas.

Noticeable omission is Sami, but he didn't help his course down under. And, on what base Shan has been selected - preposterous selection. Anyways, he wouldn't supposed to start over Shezzy boy.

Overall a decent squad and good to see Shadab, Usman & Abbas.

This give me impression that Yasir and Shadab will be part of playing XI.

Ill give 8/10 to this squad, because likes of Zulfi chacha, Imran trundler, Rahat mindless, Hackfeez and K.Akmal are chopped and not part of this team. Hopefully last series for Misbah, who is hanging around for one last embarrassment and Haris or some other deserving player.

I read it somewhere, according to Mickey Imran's speed is an issue (he's too slow to make any impact), that's why he mostly warmed bench under his watch. Also Mickey expects his bowlers to hold bat and make some useful runs at the end of the innings. Imran fails on these two fronts, that's why not part of the team, I reckon.

With Shadab in the squad now, It'll be interesting to see whether they treat Shadab as an all rounder and go with a 6+1+4 or a straight 7+4.

Only horrendous selection apart from Shan is Misbah himself, but I hope this will be his last tour - on that expense its acceptable to me.

If Speed is an issue then why is Imran our best bowler of the last 3 years? And he played majority of his matches on roads. Look at his SR and then look at Amir's.

Oh I didn't know if that touched a nerve. Indeed he's a trundler...

Sometimes you need to open your eyes instead of worshipping stats, realise if player has potential, how much does he bring to the table, instead of blindly investing into somebody.

I'm glad that now finally we're looking beyond from bellow average bowlers like Imran and Rahat to some young bowlers like Hassan and Abbas.

Of course he doesn't warrant a spot either.

He's only getting this leeway because of his performances in past (pre ban).

Lately he hasn't done much to prove his worth rather than bowling some balls in some random spells, which beats batsmen outside edges.

WHat he did earlier was also not so outstanding. He just found the conditions in England very helpful in that tour of England against Australia & England. Here are both Imran & Amir after 9 tests:

So? Asif was also a trundler. If he can extract seam movement, he will be a handful.

Unless you know of a 100mph fast bowler?

Asif had the ball on a string, Abbas doesn't.

Yes, Zahid is capable of reaching speeds near 100mph if invested in.

Perhaps but he has been rewarded for string of good performance he has shown in domestic. Otherwise what's the point in doing well in domestic?

If he doesn't do well, then will perished in thin air.

And what is the definition of outstanding?

Who was outstanding in those days apart from Asif?

You don't need to show me a trundlers stats - I know how to use circinfo.

I like to believe in what I see too, rather then just going after numbers.
