    What a difference a year makes! 2004 was a terrible year for Pakistani ODI cricket. We began by getting thrashed in NZ by NZ, then we lost to India, lost the Asia Cup, lost the Champions Trophy and lost the home ODI series to Sri Lanka.

    2005 in contrast started with a strong showing in the VB series vs the reigning World and CT champions, followed up by a thrashing of India and West Indies, then we beat England 3-2. Definitely a top notch year in ODI's...

    Pl. 22 -- W 13 -- L 9 ---> 59% winning percentage in 2005 for Pakistan

    ...the important thing is that we got stronger as the year progressed winning 10 out of our last 12 matches.

    But who were the players that performed for us in 2005 with both bat and ball? The stats below only include matches played for Pakistan...

    ODI Batting - Inzi is having an incredible year averaging nearly 56 with a strike rate of 90!! The much maligned MoYo is still our second best bat and 'The Afridi' is our 3rd best bat but what a strike rate!! Afridi scores at nearly double MoYo's strike rate!! Kamran is developing nicely and was our 4th best bat with a strike rate of 91! The rest were disappointing except Rana who is beginning to show some application with the bat!

    20 Ms -- 836 runs @ 55.73 avg --- 90.0 SR -- 0x 100 -- 9x 50 ---> Inzamam
    22 Ms -- 838 runs @ 41.90 avg --- 82.1 SR -- 1x 100 -- 8x 50 ---> Yousuf
    20 Ms -- 603 runs @ 33.50 avg -- 159.1 SR - 1x 100 -- 2x 50 ---> Afridi (35 sixes)
    22 Ms -- 610 runs @ 33.88 avg --- 76.3 SR -- 0x 100 -- 7x 50 ---> Malik
    21 Ms -- 569 runs @ 33.47 avg --- 91.2 SR -- 3x 100 -- 0x 50 ---> Akmal
    20 Ms -- 565 runs @ 28.25 avg --- 72.3 SR -- 1x 100 -- 2x 50 ---> Salman
    22 Ms -- 471 runs @ 27.70 avg --- 95.3 SR -- 0x 100 -- 3x 50 ---> Razzaq
    13 Ms -- 273 runs @ 21.00 avg --- 92.5 SR -- 0x 100 -- 1x 50 ---> Younis
    08 Ms -- 124 runs @ 15.50 avg --- 51.5 SR -- 0x 100 -- 0x 50 ---> Hafeez
    22 Ms -- 157 runs @ 13.08 avg --- 77.0 SR -- 0x 100 -- 0x 50 ---> Rana

    ODI Bowling - Afridi and Malik have slipped after being our best two ODi bowlers of 2004. Malik has had an excuse with the cloud over his action but Afridi had a terrible tour of India with the ball which if removed brings his average down to 25.54! Rana is still the man and an awesome ODI bowler, if he manages to reproduce half this form in tests Pakistan will be unbeatable!! The overall mediocre looking bowling figures disguise the fact that this team shares responsibilty and wickets. What makes Pakistan so dangerous is that any bowler could take 2-3 wickets quickly at any time!!
