    In 2006, we played 23 ODIs winning 11, losing 10 and a no result in 2 of them. We won ODI series against Sri Lanka and the Windies, drew against England, were comprehensively beaten by India and we got knocked out in the group stages of the Champions Trophy.

    Overall it was a poor year in ODIs

    and much of that can be put down to the loss of Afridi and Rana’s bowling form and most of the teams batting form. Our ODI success in 2005 was due to Afridi and Rana bowling at the top of their game and our batting chasing down totals with ease.

    Below are the ODI bowling and batting stats for 2006, to qualify a player needs to have played a minimum of 5 matches.

    ODI Batting Stats – Yousuf and Younis are once again the top two performers in the batting charts, only this time there isn’t much difference in their stats except the fact that Younis has a century to his name plus a significantly better strike rate. Although Younis’s ODI form has dipped towards the end of the year, he was man of the series against England. Razzaq has performed exceptionally well with the bat, proving that he’s an indispensable ODI player and that perhaps we should appreciate him a little more. Inzi, Farhat, Hafeez, Butt and Kamran have had very poor years and their form tells part of the story as to why we’ve not done so well in ODI’s this year. However it’s Afridi’s stats that are the most worrying, he was never going to average more than 25 runs per innings in ODI’s and that’s not a problem but to average 8 in 12 inns is beyond poor, even by his standards!

    19 inns -- 627 runs @ 39.18 avg --- 83* HS -- 63.5 SR -- 0x 100 -- 5x 50 ---> Yousuf
    20 inns -- 615 runs @ 38.43 avg --- 101 HS -- 70.4 SR -- 1x 100 -- 4x 50 ---> Younis
    19 inns -- 455 runs @ 37.91 avg --- 75* HS -- 77.6 SR -- 0x 100 -- 2x 50 ---> Razzaq
    16 inns -- 450 runs @ 34.61 avg ---- 79 HS -- 74.8 SR -- 0x 100 -- 1x 50 ---> Inzamam
    22 inns -- 638 runs @ 33.57 avg --- 108 HS -- 78.2 SR -- 1x 100 -- 3x 50 ---> Malik
    12 inns -- 288 runs @ 24.00 avg ---- 58 HS -- 65.6 SR -- 0x 100 -- 2x 50 ---> Farhat
    12 inns -- 255 runs @ 23.18 avg ---- 92 HS -- 78.2 SR -- 0x 100 -- 1x 50 ---> Hafeez
    07 inns -- 145 runs @ 20.71 avg --- 101 HS -- 62.2 SR -- 1x 100 -- 0x 50 ---> Butt
    20 inns -- 340 runs @ 20.00 avg ---- 56 HS -- 75.2 SR -- 0x 100 -- 1x 50 ---> Kamran
    15 inns -- 112 runs @ 14.00 avg ---- 27 HS -- 79.4 SR -- 0x 100 -- 0x 50 ---> Rana
    12 inns --- 115 runs @ 7.66 avg ---- 23 HS -- 83.3 SR -- 0x 100 -- 0x 50 ---> Afridi

    ODI Bowling Stats – Last year, Afridi was one of our best bowlers, whilst this year he’s one of our worst. Last year Rana was averaging 21 whilst taking 2 wickets per match but this year his average has gone up and he’s taking fewer wickets per match. Whilst an average of 28 looks good, if you take out the series vs the Windies Rana’s 2006 average is 37.94. Hopefully his form is here to stay for 2007! Gul is beginning to come into his own, whilst Rao has nearly halved his 2005 average. Both Razzaq and Afridi’s bowling is much worse than in 2005 but Malik barely bowls anymore, so I’ve added him separately at the bottom!
