Kamran Akmal, Salman Butt score world’s highest T20 opening partnership

KARACHI: Pakistan's wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal and former captain Salman Butt put up the highest-ever T20 partnership for the opening wicket on Friday, creating a world record by scoring 209 runs between them.

The feat saw the two batsmen beat the previous best of 207 by Kent's JL Denly and DJ Bell-Drummond against Essex in English county cricket. This is also the third highest ever partnership for any wicket in a T20 inning.

During the same inning, Kamran also became the first ever Pakistani and the first wicket-keeper batsman to score 150 runs in a T20 match.

The 35-year old out-of-favour batsman smashed 12 sixes and 14 fours to score an unbeaten 150 for Lahore Whites against Islamabad in National T20 Cup in Rawalpindi.

He also surpassed South Africa's Quinton de Kock to post the highest individual T20 score by a wicket-keeper; the South African wicket-keeper had scored 126* before Kamran overtook him by scoring an unbeaten 150 today.

The opener is the first Pakistani and 8th overall to score 150 or more in a T20 inning. His score of 150* is the 10th highest individual score in the shortest format of professional cricket.
The inning has also helped Kamran Akmal to become the first Pakistani and only third overall player to score fifty or more in five consecutive T20 innings. Before 150 not out against Islamabad, Kamran had scores of 52, 65, 63 and 52 in the ongoing National T20 Cup.

Two other players to score five consecutive 50s or more in T20 cricket are India's Virender Sehwag and Zimbabwe’s Hamilton Masakadza.

During the inning, Kamran Akmal also created a new national record of most sixes in a T20 inning by smashing 12 sixes, surpassing the record of 10 sixes in an inning by Bilal Asif.

Kamran's individual score of 150 not out contributed 71.77% runs to Lahore's total score of 209 – the highest percentage of runs contributed by a batsman in a completed inning.

The century was also Kamran Akmal's third T20 hundred of his career, which is jointly the most by a Pakistani batsman along with Khurram Manzoor and Ahmad Shahzad.

2 – Akmal and Butt became the 2nd opening pair in Twenty20 history to play full 20 overs. Lou Vincent and Shahriar Nafees pair put on 197/0 in 20 overs for Khulna Royal Bengal Tigers in BPL 2013 against Duronto Rajshahi.

3 – Number of centuries the wicketkeeper has to his name in Twenty20 cricket. These are the joint most number of tons in this format by a Pakistan player. Ahmed Shehzad, Mukhtar Ahmed and Khurram Manzoor also scored three T20 centuries. Mukhtar and Manzoor scored their 3rd century only a couple of days ago.

5 – Kamran became the 3rd player with fifty-plus scores in five consecutive innings in Twenty20 cricket. His previous four scores in this format are 52, 65, 63, and 52. Virender Sehwag and Hamilton Masakazda in 2012 scored fifties in five consecutive T20 innings.

12 – His 12 sixes are the most in a Twenty20 innings by a Pakistan player surpassing 10 sixes by Bilal Asif in 2015 for Sialkot Stallions against Faisalabad Falcons.

71.77 – Akmal scored a total of 71.77 percent of his team’s runs in this innings. This is the highest % of runs scored by any player in a completed Twenty20 innings. Cameron White scored 71.21 % of Somerset’s innings when he scored 141* out of 198/4 against Worcestershire in 2006.

128 – Runs Akmal scored in boundaries during this innings. These are the joint 4th most runs scored by any player in a single T20 innings. No Pakistan player has scored 100 runs alone in boundaries in a T20 inning. In fact, no player from Pakistan has scored as many as 128 runs in a T20 innings before Akmal.

150* – His unbeaten 150 is the highest individual score in Twenty20 cricket by a Pakistan player or by any player in Pakistan. He broke Mukhtar Ahmed’s 123-run knock scored in 2015 for Sialkot Region against Karachi Region Whites in Rawalpindi.

Overall, Akmal’s effort is the 10th 150+ score in the T20 format and the first-ever by a wicketkeeper. The previous highest individual score in the format by a keeper was 126* by Quinton de Kock in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge 2012/13.

209* – The unbeaten 209-run stand between Akmal and Butt is the highest for the opening wicket in Twenty20 cricket. They went past Joe Denly and Daniel Bell-Drummond’s 207-run stand for Kent against Essex earlier this year.

Overall, the Akmal-Butt stand is the 3rd biggest T20 partnership for any wicket after Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers’ 229 and 215* stands for the 2nd wicket against Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians respectively in 2015 and 2016.

209* – The 209-run partnership is the first ever double century T20 stand in Pakistan or involving a Pakistan player. Kamran was involved in a 176-run partnership for the first wicket with Tamim Iqbal in the Sri Lanka Premier League in 2012. The previous highest T20 partnership in Pakistan was 169* for the 2nd wicket between Yasir Hameed and Younis Khan for Abbottabad Falcons against Bahawalpur Stags in 2014.

Pakistani players with most centuries in T20 cricket

Opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad scored his fourth hundred in T20 cricket in the semi-finals of the National T20 tournament 2017 in Pakistan. During his 103-run unbeaten knock, he became the only batsman from Pakistan to score four centuries in the shortest format of the game. The opener is also the only batsman from his nation to score a hundred in all three formats of the game.

Shehzad has been in and out of the national team in recent times, especially in the 50-over format due to consistent failures. But he is a key member of the T20 side for his country, after a good series against World XI which toured Pakistan to mark the return of international cricket to the country for the first time, since the Lahore attacks on the Lankan team bus. He is currently working really hard on his batting technique and trying to figure out the shortcomings with help of former Pakistan cricketers.

Most T20 centuries by a Pakistani cricketer
Shehzad overcame many fellow country-mates while achieving the landmark ton, including the likes of Mukhtar Ahmed, Kamran Akmal and Khurram Manzoor who all have scored three hundreds each in T20 cricket. It is also a share of coincidence that all the four cricketers have scored a hundred in the ongoing National T20 Cup. Shehzad is also the only one in the charts to have a T20 international century to his name, which he scored against Bangladesh in 2014.

Most centuries in Twenty20 cricket by Pakistan players:
    4 – Ahmed Shehzad

    3 – Mukhtar Ahmed

    3 – Kamran Akmal

    3 – Khurram Manzoor

(All the four scored one each in the ongoing National T20 Cup)

The 26-year-old Pakistani opener is also the only batsman in the world to score more than one hundred in T20 knockouts or playoffs. He has overall scored three hundreds in domestic T2o games in Pakistan and all of them have come in the knockout stages of the tournament.

Kamran Akmal becomes first Asian player to complete 800 FC catches

KARACHI: Kamran Akmal on Monday added another feather to his cap by completing 800 catches in first-class cricket.

He reached the milestone of 800 FC catches during the Quaid-e-Azam trophy match at SBP ground, where he was playing super 8 round’s match for WAPDA against KRL.

He claimed 7 catches in the match, 5 in first and 2 in second innings of the game.

Kamran is not only the first Pakistani but also the first Asian player to reach this milestone and only the second non-England player after Rod Marsh to achieve the feat of 800 first-class catches.

Out of the 33 players to reach 800 FC catches, 31 are from England.

With a total 865 dismissals behind the wicket, Kamran is also Pakistan’s most successful wicketkeeper in First Class cricket.

He was also the leading scorer in recently concluded National T20 tournament.

Shahid Afridi becomes first Pakistani to take 300 T20 wickets

SHARJAH: Former captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi on Friday became the first ever Pakistani to bag 300 T20 wickets.

Afridi, 38, reached the milestone during his team Karachi Kings’ PSL league match against Islamabad United.

His 300th scalp came after a quicker delivery that smashed into Chadwick Walton’s stumps, with the triumphant spinner celebrating the feat in his trademark style.

Afridi is only the 4th player in the world to have completed 300 wickets in the shortest format of the game.

He joined West Indian DJ Bravo, Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga and another spin magician from West Indies Sunil Narine in the club of 300 T20 wickets.

Afridi, who has represented 20 different teams in T20 leagues around the world, completed 300 wickets in his 273rd match.

The next Pakistani to Afridi in the list of most T20 wickets is Sohail Tanvir, who has 289 wickets to his credit.

With 97 wickets in T20 internationals, Shahid Afridi is also the world’s leading wicket-taker in the shortest format of international cricket.

Pakistan’s Shan Masood beats Kohli, de Villiers

Pakistan opening batsman Shan Masood may not have the best international cricket stats to boost about, having only one century and three fifties to his name in 12 Test matches at an average of under 25.

However, the 28-year-old, who has so far struggled at the international circuit, is a giant at domestic level, with numbers to earn the envy from the best in the game. The Kuwait born has the highest ever average of 58.94 in List A cricket.

Masood sits at the top of the heap when it comes to List A cricket, with Australia’s Michael Bevan and Indian batting maestro sitting second and third with average of 57.86 and 56.56, respectively. The duo has, however, played more number of matches than Masood.

[IMG]Masood has so far played 74 List A matches and has amassed 3,360 runs, including 10 centuries and 20 fifties, with 182 as his highest score.

Even South African legend and modern batting great AB de Villiers is placed sixth on the table, with an average of 53.47 in 263 matches.

Shoaib Malik leapfrogs Virat Kohli to reach major milestone in T20Is

Shoaib Malik overtook Indian captain Virat Kohli to become the third highest run-scorer in T20I format. With the milestone, Malik completed 2000 runs in this format of the game, thereby becoming only the third batsman to do so.

Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik leapfrogged Indian captain Virat Kohli to become third-highest run-scorer in T20I format. The senior Pakistani batsman achieved the feat during the 1st T20I against Zimbabwe on Sunday night. Before the start of the first T20I against Zimbabwe, Malik had 1989 runs to his name. He went onto play an innings of 37* to achieve the feat.

Malik now sits at the third position on the list of most runs scored by batsmen in T20Is. New Zealand’s Martin Guptill tops the chart with 2271 runs in his account from 73 innings, followed by his former skipper and teammate, Brendon McCullum. Before retiring from cricket in 2016, Baz had scored 2140 runs in T20I cricket, a record which stood for few years before Guptill broke it during the Trans Tasman Trophy earlier this year.

Fakhar first Pakistani to score 500 T20I runs in calendar year

KARACHI: Pakistan’s flamboyant batsman Fakhar Zaman on Sunday became country’s first ever batsman to score 500 T20I runs in a calendar year.

The 28-year-old batsman smashed a match-winning 91 to help Pakistan chase the target of 184 comfortably against Australia – which was also team’s highest successful chase.

The innings that included 12 boundaries and three shots for maximum took Zaman’s total score tally in the year to 516, which is highest by any Pakistani player in the shortest format during a calendar year.

Only two players have scored more runs than Fakhar in a year, Virat Kohli (641) and Mohammad Shahzad (520), both in 2010.

Pakistan are scheduled to play at least 6 more T20Is this year and Fakhar has the opportunity to create a world record of most runs in a calendar year. To achieve this record, Fakhar needs to score at least 126 runs.

Fakhar was also adjudged man of the series for the triangular T20i tournament as he scored 278 runs in 5 matches – the most runs scored by a Pakistani batsman in a tournament or series. Fakhar was only 41 runs short of Kohli’s world record of most runs in a tournament which he created during World T20 2014 by scoring 319 runs.

The target chase, team’s highest successful chase, was also their 10th consecutive successful run chase in T20Is. No other team has been this consistent witch successful chases in T20Is.

Pakistan – which is usually considered not a good chaser in limited over Cricket – hasn’t failed in chasing target since Sarfaraz Ahmed took over the captaincy.

This was also team’s overall 35th successful chase, the by any team.

The title was 9th consecutive series/tournament win for Pakistan.

Here are some interesting statistical highlights from Pakistan's win in the final over Australia:

0 - Under Sarfraz Ahmed's captaincy, Pakistan are yet to lose a single T20I while chasing. This was their 10th consecutive win while chasing, which is also the most by any team in T20I history.

0 - No player has scored more in a T20I final than Fakhar Zaman. The previous record was held by Marlon Samuels, courtesy of his 85* in the 2016 World T20 final. Zaman now holds the record courtesy of his 91.

1 - Sahibzada Farhan becomes the first player to be stumped off the first ball faced in international cricket. He made history after he was stumped for a duck off a wide from Glenn Maxwell.

2 - Pakistan's chase of 184 is the second-highest run chase in T20Is after a team lost two wickets in the first over. England hold the record, having chased 190 against Sri Lanka in 2014.

8 - Pakistan ended their run of eight successive losses in finals to Australia with this win and ended the 28-year run in the process.

9 - The win in the tri-series final over Australia is the ninth successive T20I series that Pakistan have won. Since the 2016 World T20, Pakistan are yet to lose a T20I series. In that same period, they have beaten England in England, West Indies both home (twice) and away, beat Sri Lanka, Scotland (away), New Zealand (away) and the World XI.

28 - This is the first time in 28 years that Pakistan have won a final against Australia. Before this, Wasim Akram's hat-trick at Sharjah in 1990 was the last time they did it.

91 - Fakhar Zaman registered his career-best T20I score. He broke his own previous record of 73, which he got in his previous T20I against Australia.
