Facing the ire of critics and fans alike, the Pakistan cricket team found an ally in former captain Moin Khan, who believes the 1992 champions did not have a disastrous World Cup campaign despite standing on the verge of ouster. Pakistan's hopes of sealing a semi-final berth were trampled when arch-rivals India and New Zealand lost to England, leaving the road to the knockout stage for Sarfaraz Ahmed and his men just an improbable mathematical calculation. They will take on Bangladesh in their final group stage match at the iconic Lord's in London on Friday. "Look if we win against Bangladesh we would end the World Cup with five wins out of nine with one match abandoned which is not a bad performance by my standards. So, whatever the PCB does it needs to think very carefully because just changing faces or positions will not help," Moin said. Pakistan have won five games out of the eight matches with one game being a washout. They suffered heavy defeats at the hands India, Australia and the West Indies, which spoiled their net run rate. Citing the example of reigning champions Australia and their impressive turnaround, former Test batsman Basit Ali said professionalism and accountability is the need of the hour for Pakistan cricket. "Australia till recently were being badly bruised and beaten at home by India and see how they staged a comeback and are now top of the World Cup points table. We need that sort of professionalism, planning, and accountability of players and coaches in our system," Ali said. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already announced that its revamped cricket committee will hold a robust inquiry into the team's performances in the last three years before making recommendations to the Chairman for action. https://www.indiatoday.in/sports/cr...n-sarfaraz-ahmed-moin-khan-1562091-2019-07-04
I completely agree, all in all its been a satisfactory world cup, with a bit of luck who knows, England and newzealand who we beat have had alot of luck to be fair, tosses, conditions and help from the weather, whilst we've not had the rub of the green teams deserve
Wins: 5 (If they beat Bangladesh) Losses: 3 Abandoned: 1 vs one of the lower ranked teams and one that Pakistan has historically had success vs. I'd call it a better than expected performance.
Not at all. Losing in such a way against a team which finished 2nd last alone makes this all WC a BIG failure.
WE could have easily won the World Cup had it not been for india throwing match against England!! What india did was not cricket, it was fixing, it was cheating!! And we have generally played better cricket than india i believe although india has won more games but india have had toss going their way most of the time which meant that they have batted first most of the time! Chasing is difficult in these conditions and Pakistan have successfully chased twice! Pakistan has most of the time chased in this tournament whether winning the toss or losing the toss!! So lots of things have not gone Pakistans way! Pakistan has been the standout team of the tournament and could have easily won the World Cup!! @SwingNSeam
Pitch had moisture in it and west indies had massacred new zealand in warm up match prior to that!! So I dont blame my team for getting out for 100! You dont blame a team which gets out for 100! You blame a team whose players get a start and fail to convert into something big, which they did against Australia but that match was also a tight one so wont blame Pakistan there either! Pakistan havent put a foot wrong in this tournament! Just a case of bad luck and Dhoni doing what he did in that game against England!!
Nope. You actually blame them. Harna hi to hai then atleast 200 runs post karo. Someone needed to dig in and ensure that.
You get out to a good delivery or you get a pitch which has moisture in it and you are not able to see it through then its not your fault! Your fault is when you throw a match from a winning position, which they sort of did against Australia! It wasnt exactly a winning position but they just need to hold their nerve in a situation like this and avoid making mistake that can cost you the game!! Even, Australia game i wont blame them cus they just got done there! What went wrong against Aus were the first two overs from Shaheen which cost the game!!
Shaheen had poor form before that match and had not played a match in the tournament so he would need a couple of overs to settle his nerves at big stage! Therefore, Hassan should have been the one taking that new ball with Amir and Shaheen coming first change just to get him a look into the game!!
