SYDNEY: Cricket Australia said on Tuesday $20,000 fines should be imposed on ground invaders, but also admitted the Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) could lose right to host international games in wake of ground invasion debacle on Sunday in Perth.

After being asked by the ICC for a rapid report into how a drunken patron was allowed to tackle Pakistan’s Khalid Latif to the floor, CA admitted the ICC could consider stripping Perth of right to hold international matches.

But CA says it is confident the ICC will not strip WA of international cricket, with role of state government crucial.

“The ICC has power to strip grounds of their status and it was discussed at the MCG a few years ago,” CA spokesman Peter Young said.

“It [WACA Ground] could lose it, like New Delhi lost it recently [because of a sub-standard pitch],” he added.—Agencies
