Wasim Akram gives verdict on Naseem Shah
Pakistan’s legendary former pacer Wasim Akram, in an interview with foxsports.com.au, believed that 16-year-old pace bowling sensation Naseem Shah would be raring to go against Australia, after skipper Azhar Ali confirmed that the youngster would be part of the Men in Green’s squad in their first Test, which starts on Thursday.
Akram claimed that Naseem’s young age was a blessing in disguise as the fast-bowler would not feel the pressure usually associated with international cricket.
“I think it’s a blessing in disguise because when you’re 16-17, you don’t even know what the word pressure means,” said Akram. “You just want to go out and play. When I was 17, I didn’t know what pressure meant, I was loving it. I think the same goes for Naseem. When he becomes a star he’ll know what pressure means. At this age, he’ll just be raring to go.”
The former left-arm pacer, however, stated that the young pace sensation would require the assistance of his captain inorder to thrive.
“A 16-year-old doesn’t know how to set the field, they just won’t. That’s where the captain comes in particularly valuable. I had Imran Khan, I had Javed Miandad and they were a great help,” he said.
Earlier, Pakistan’s skipper Azhar Ali revealed, in a press conference on Wednesday, that Naseem will be part of Pakistan’s lineup for the first Test.
We are definitely looking to play him," said Azhar. "He’s bowling really well. We’ll announce the side tomorrow but he’s definitely going to be part of it.”
Azhar also heaped praise on the rookie pacer by admiring the talent he possessed with the ball.
"Not many players can reach that standard so early but there are exceptions and he’s one of them. We are all looking forward to him having a very successful career,” he said. “When I saw him first I was so surprised ... the control he had, the pace he had and on top of it all the temperament and the composure when he bowls is so exciting to see."
Very interesting analysis.
Sweet 16. The stuff of real dreams.
Not a single thread on this yet? Here it is.
Great performance. Doesn’t matter who the opposition is, doesn’t matter that he’s not actually 16 - can’t take this away from him.
Brilliant bowling by Naseem and a magnificent achievement. Really hope he continues to blossom.
I read an interesting comment today.
Pakistan holds the youngest hattrick taking youngest bowlers in all three formats, with Aqib Javed and Hasnain in ODI and T20, and now Naseem Shah in Tests.
His first three wickets were phenomenal delivers, especially the first two of the hattrick. I think he got in Mahmadullah's head to get the hattrick, which is fantastic in itself.
It's been a while since we've seen such a valuable hattrick - middle order, Bangladesh batting well - it really was a match winning spell.
Keep Naseem away from the 'roti group', for the love of God.
Indeed. I value a test hattrick a lot since the batsmen really don't need to play the ball and the bowler needs to literally give it a 100% and even more and trap the batsman entirely to get it.
What is roti group?
Its a WhatsApp/dinner group. Hasan Ali, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf
And also fixers
Great achievement. It has much greater value as it is done in front of home crowd which will inspire many more.
Naseem Shah is one bowler who has pace, is accurate and can really cause damage if he bowls with precision at a high speed... He is a real asset for us and we must use him with care too so that we might not lose him... we got to utilize him in limited overs cricket with that new ball as Amirs partner... Shaheen can be used as 1st change..
What about Fahim Ashraf ?
Faheem Ashraf is a new ball specialist imo.. he can be considered too but Naseem Shah is a wicket taker u need wicket takers upfront.. .those who can provide u early wickets... early wickets u need... atleast 1 or 2 wickets so that you are able to get into that middle order of opponent teams.. what is happening currently we are not able to get past Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli... when we will expose that middle order then only we are going to know how good they are and they are not as strong as we think they are... they are too reliant on their top 3 and Dhoni at present... in the middle order there is a big vaccum imo.
We hardly play India, so why care so much about them?
Waise bhi ill open the bowling with Amir and Naseem Shah in limited overs format against any opponents. Shaheen Afridi I would pick for 1st change.
Shaheen new ball and Naseem first change
Nahi ill bowl Naseem Shah with new ball and Shaheen 1st change. We desperately need atleast 1 wicket with that new ball to expose the top and middle order as quick as possible. Shaheen could not break through in Asia Cup 2018 against India.
Shaeen is much matured now, and there is no guarantee that Naseem or Amir will make a break through. Why do you see everything through Indian glasses?
Naseem has extra pace which can be useful. We dont have to see names. We have to find a breakthrough with that new ball which is the most important thing. We need atleast 1 wicket with that new ball whichever opposition we are playing against. Amir is our No. 1 bowler right and he will always be bowling with that new ball. His partner is going to be either Shaheen or Naseem. Shaheen failed in that match to find a breakthrough with that new ball and with Naseem, you have certain advantages, he is quick, he is young, he is fearless and he will bowl at pace, he will not see who is facing him so he is the one who can produce that breakthrough or even more wickets at the top. Potential of Naseem Shah is enormous. Although, Shaheen has proven to be our top bowler in all formats but you need something extra with that new ball and that Naseem can provide. Also, with Naseem he is a right armer to go with Amirs left arm so right arm left arm combination will work well and Shaheen and Shinwari can bowl with that semi new ball as change ups.
Amir also has failed to take ANY wicket in many matches. Shinwari should never come close to team, I even prefer Wahab over him.
Shaheen New ball and Naseem first change. You are wrong.
You may be right but mujhe kisi bhi tarah new ball se atleast 1 wicket chahye ziada nahi 1 wicket is must. Semi new ball se Shaheen and Shinwari with their left arm angle is a very big threat aur Naseem mein mujhe eik fearlessness nazar aati hai he is youth he will run in, he will not see batsman facing him, he has that Shoaib Akhtar Mohd Sami thing about him which is what we need from other end with new ball to Amir. Mujhe wicket chahye new ball se kisi bhi tarah aur agar Amir wicket lene mein fail ho jata hai to mujhe Naseem mein ability nazar arahi hai he can make breakthroughs. Shaheen aur Shinwari with semi new ball left arm angle will be lethal. Problem is jab new ball se wicket nahi milta hai to puri team trouble mein ajati hai.. Phir yeh log jab zor lagate hein to runs leak hona shuru hote hein, finally they get a breakthrough when 100+ runs are on the board and then writing is on the wall... new ball se sirf 1 breakthrough mil jaye then 2 out of top 3 will be exposed to that feisty spell of bowling of Shaheen and Shinwari. 4 fast bowlers hein jab 2 rest kareinge to baki 2 karwayeinge. Phir jab 28 over hojayenge to part time spinners aayeinge they will bowl those middle overs and then fast bowlers will come back at the end. New ball is the key. New ball per 1 wicket lazmi hai and then Shaheen and Shinwari spell will hold the key to the match. They will search hard for wickets in that middle spell.
Naseem ka advantage yeh hai ke he is right arm Amir is left arm aur Naseem wicket to wicket bowl karta hai he does not stray, he bowls quick and he bowls wicket to wicket... whereas Shaheen at times new white ball control nahi kar paata zor lagata hai edges 3rd 4th slip se hote hue boundary ho jati hai and that provides early momentum to batsmen which is what they want.. we want somebody who is accurate with that new ball which Amir and Naseem are.. Shaheen controls semi new ball better..
Look at the movement in Nasim's ball at 0:35 -- followed be two away swingers. Awesome!
