theres so many rumours and accusations going on about the ruling party, from people who have suddenly become parliamentary experts after ignoring it for ten years, but anyway, theres some legitimate questions being thrown out too.

this programme is superb and gives a brilliant thorough answer to exactly what is going on, and gives some incredibly mouth watering prospects of things to come:

Lol I never said the PTI was run by the army. Yes they are supported by the army and given preference over others, and there is nothing wrong in it if in doing so we get what we have been longing for 50 years, but problem is PTI is perhaps not what we were after, but probably portrayed itself as one.

Wait for a few years and you and other blind PTI supporters will realise they have been made such a fool of themselves. I just hope you guys are able to cope with the immense feeling of betrayal.

    blind?

and you complain about other people's use of language?

so they are not "run" by the army, they are "supported" by the army. so that means that when they do anything, its because the army "supports" them, but when the establishment rules against them, its because the army is ONLY "supporting" them.

sounds like this "support" is pretty ineffectual and non-existent then. I'd ask you to reference where you get this idea of "support" and where there is a definition of what it means, but i suspect quite strongly that references of anything other than minuscule irrelevancies is not a strong point of yours.

a government in power for a month, left with a massive potentially disastrous bankruptcy and the prospect of a failed state, pulling in experts to garner policy in all areas, listening to criticism as they find their way, striking deals with potential bail out partners, accepting court verdicts, readdressing healthcare, welfare, jobs, safety, tourism, the environment all at an unprecedented pace and breadth of activity and the one thing you jump up and down rubbing your hand in glee about is an absolutely correct censure by the CJP - whom im assuming all of a sudden is a best friend now - of two members of the ruling party.

I think this says pretty much everything about the level of debate here, and the worth of spending any more e-ink on it.

I reckon @MNA is very impatient and expects mess of more than decade wiped in the blink of an eye - not going to happen. Current PTI Gov is doing dirty laundry of its predecessors, which will take time and its no small task. Either people have unrealistic expectations or they don't even have iota of knowledge that what kind of crises Pakistan is facing. PTI or IK doesn't have magic wade, which he an swing in the air and all the problems will go away.

And there is absolutely no disappointment at all so far. I can clearly see a direction, this Gov is putting forward Pakistan's narrative in front of the world (watch SMQ's speech in UN ), they're making efforts to bring back looted money, making effort in construction of dams, inviting Saudi to invest in CPEC and making things transparent - this all shows me their intentions, which is correct, therefore, I will give them this full term and then will judge them.

Govt turns down Saudi offer to acquire two power plants

Pakistan has turned down Saudi Arabia’s offer to acquire two LNG-fired power plants only under a sovereign deal, as laws do not allow selling assets without following a rigorous competitive process.

“Saudi Arabia also demanded Pakistan to provide free land, complete security and utility facilities for setting up an oil refinery of over 100,000 barrel per day capacity at Gwadar,” the sources told The Express Tribune on Monday.

But a final decision on whether to set up the refinery will be taken by Saudi Arabia after visiting the site today (Tuesday).

As compared to the Pakistani side, the Saudi delegation was fully prepared for a hard bargain, according to officials who attended the negotiations.

During the first day of talks, Saudi Arabia showed interest in acquisition of 2,446 megawatts Haveli Bahadur Shah and Baloki power plants, which are located in Punjab and owned by the federal government, according to sources in the Ministry of Energy.

The Gulf country wanted to clinch a deal under a government-to-government arrangement, they added.

“Our legal framework did not allow selling existing assets without following the competitive bidding process, well-defined under the Privatisation Ordinance,” the officials said.

“The government will only take the legal path and that is competitive bidding in case of the already completed projects,” said a senior government functionary on condition of anonymity.

Both the power plants had been set up during the last tenure of the PML-N at an investment of Rs191 billion.

However, they said a government-to-government deal with Saudi Arabia was possible in case of Greenfield projects.

A Saudi delegation led by Ahmed Hamed Al-Ghamdi, Adviser to the Saudi Minister for Energy, is in the town on a five-day visit to Pakistan to find out new investment opportunities.

The delegation held technical-level talks on Monday to review the possibility for investment in Reko Diq gold and copper mines, setting up an oil refinery in Gwadar and investing in the power sector.

The officials said the Saudi delegation wanted to clinch an early deal and buying the power plants through competitive process would consume at least six months.

The Power Division secretary explained the mechanism for selling the assets to the Saudi authorities.

The Saudi authorities were of the view that the General Electric technology that used to set up power plants may soon become obsolete as the GE was shifting its investment towards renewable energy projects.

“In order to satisfy the Saudi delegation, the government has sought a legal opinion from the Ministry of Law whether the existing plants can be sold under a government-to-government deal,” the sources said.

“However, there is still a possibility to sign a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the energy field but its wording is expected to be vague,” the sources said.

But the federal government has to take the federal cabinet’s nod before signing the MoU with Saudi Arabia.

The sources added that discussions also took place on the issue of getting oil on deferred payments. But no major headway was made during the first day, as Pakistani authorities lacked specific information. More deliberations on getting oil on deferred payments would take place in next two days.

“Saudi Arabia has sought details about Pakistan’s total oil requirements and existing agreements on crude oil imports with other countries,” the sources said.

An official handout issued by the Board of Investment (BOI) on the visit stated that Abdul Razak Dawood, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce, informed the visiting delegation about the liberal invest regime of the country and available opportunities for the kingdom.

The Saudi delegation comprised of high-level officials of various government departments as well as representatives of Saudi Aramco, Maaden and ACWA power.

“The adviser told the delegation on the huge potential of investment, lying unrealised in areas of power generation, transmission and distribution,” stated the BOI.

He informed the delegation in detail on the projected increase in the power consumption keeping in view the economic growth, especially after operationalisation of CPEC.

The representative of ACWA in the Saudi delegation offered their institutional capacity, especially in the power generation areas, and offered to engage with Pakistan in long term projects aimed at ensuring the economic and sustained power supplies, according to the BOI.

He added that they were interested in the areas of renewable energy and establishing water desalination plants.

Head of the Saudi delegation showed his intentions to finalise the framework for flow of investment to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia in mega projects, according to the BOI.

I dont like the smell of this at all. the Saudis are not a good counterpart to go into business with, they are expansionist, arrogant and lapdogs of the Israeli/usa machine which keeps the royal family afloat.

as a financing agent/bank, fair enough, im comfortable with an equivalent alternative to the IMF or public debt markets. but I would not want to go into business with them, they cannot be trusted. its worrying to read that even the saudis seemed far more prepared than the Pakistanis during the negotiations. lets hope theres a good reason for that.

I know the oil business has been massively corrupt in pakistan, I know it personally since Musharrafs time, and I know in the meantime the indians built the single largest refinery complex in the world (reliance industries in Jamnagar), and bought oil assets across the globe to secure crude supply; all whilst Zardari and Sharif concentrated on building their empires and Musharraf was trying to avoid pakistan becomes Beirut thanks to the old friend america treating to 'bomb us into the stone ages'.

its another damning indictment of previous governments and all the more shocking that people criticise this one a month into their governance when they are addressing these massive, massive critical issues which the previous governments were criminally negligent of.

Saudi Arabia investment package in Pakistan to cost $12 billion: Sources

ISLAMABAD - The total investment of Saudi Arabia in Pakistan to cross $10 billion under the new discussed package.

Saudi Arabia to supply more than 100,000 barrels per day (BPD) on deferred payment and more than $12 billion investment, mostly in the petroleum sector.

Sources said Riyadh was expected to be allocated a large piece of land at Gwadar for setting up a 500,000 BPD refinery worth over $9bn besides an oil storage facility for 2-3 million tonnes as part of its plan to secure its export supplies. They said Pakistan promised 16 per cent return on investment in the oil refinery.

Saudi Arabia has around 8-10m BPD of oil exports and wanted to have a storage facility outside the strategic Strait of Hormuz as a back-up for secured supplies to the Eastern clientele.

The delegation led by Ahmad Hameed Al-Ghamdi, adviser of Saudi Arabia’s ministry of energy, industry and mineral resources, had sessions at the power and petroleum divisions and would be visiting Gwadar port and Reko Diq on Tuesday.

Fawad Chaudhry says PML-N’s Mushahidullah appointed ‘whole family’ in PIA

ISLAMABAD: Minutes after apologising to opposition in Senate, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday heavily criticized Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Mushahidullah for appointing his family members on important positions in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), ARY News reported.

The minister, who earlier accused the PML-N leader of similar wrongdoings while using his influence to appoint his family members in the organization in National Assembly, repeated his allegations before media outside Senate.

“Mushahidullah was himself recruited as a loader in PIA, his brother Mujahidullah Khan is a flight attendant, Rashidullah Khan was made New York station’s operation head during Nawaz-era while Sajidullah Khan was appointed as Assitant Manager at the same station,” said Fawad Chaudhry.

The minister added that Mushahidullah himself heads the Senate Committee on Aviation which means “we are trusting someone with a vested interest” on matters related to aviation.

He also claimed that Mushahidullah received medical treatment on PIA’s expense which cost the national airline a whopping Rs3million.

Chaudhry also accused Chairman Senate on partiality for adjourning the session without listening to his arguments and asking him to apologise for similar remarks in NA.

“The facts that I am stating here should have been presented in Senate but I was asked to apologise rather than putting facts before the legislature and let people decide who needs to apologise,” said Chaudhry.

The minister announced that he will send this matter of political appointments to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as holding “such people” accountable is the foremost priority of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Frankly very poor from Fawad Ch. Instead of updating on governments achievements and progress he and some others are just hell bent on using garbage language, accusations, threats and character assassination against past governments and their corruptions when we all know they all were very corrupt. He believes he is still in opposition or may be trying to deflect attention from lacklustre performance of govt.

This is the same verbiage both PPP and PML-N have been using.

There is absolutely nothing wrong in exposing them and their corruption. Yes, we all know that they were corrupt but we also want to know details. And those details are coming to fore now - nobody should have any objection on it.

Revealing truth is not accusations, threats and character assassination.

^looks like some performance metrics of what they are doing right there.

strange but not surprising how "neutral" commentators are dying to know what government performance and achievements are - after 40 days of the first term in office. but contextualising their progress by the magnitude of mess is not something that is important to hear apparently.

listen to me, things car auctions, cow auctions, having two servants, reduced protocol etc are more like gimmicks and publicity stints. Give me facts, like infant mortality rates, maternal mortality rates, crime rates, provision of safe water, air pollution, health prmotion, law and order etc, many of these things can be reduced even so slightly within four weeks if the govt machinary goes after those problems with total focus and undivided attention, but alas like previous govts this govt is also focused on playing same old drama using colorful gimmicks and bazari kushti, whats the difference?

Anyways I am going to get really buzy in work, so taking a temporary retirement; but lets have a chat over this issue say in six months time and we will see what happens.

Sorry but again very, very high expectation keeping the fact in mind that they've only completed their first 30/40 days. Things look much easy when you look at them from distance and easy to make talk claims that so much can be achieved within X number of days/weeks, but when you are at the helm, when reality hits you then you realize what kind of mess you're dealing with. Not to mention they dont even have money to run the country.

I gave you facts to cut cost, bring in investment and go after land mafia. You don't want to accept it, your call.

When Khan went to Karachi and meat CM, then he assured him Federal's support support and cooperation for the completion of the Green Line mass transit project, K-IV drinking water project and S-III sewerage plan. These are the biggest issue of your metropolitan city. These are massive projects, not going to happen over night.

He has already announced and started tree plantation across the country (will sure some source here soon). This is what best way to encounter climate change and air pollution, again in the blink of an eye.

As for health reforms, I am certain big decision will be take in coming days and those should get materialized too. I am optimistic because this has happened in KPK, checkout the following thread.

    https://cricistan.com/threads/kpk-performance.46260/page-3

Coming on law and order situation. Apart from security forces Police has a vital role in it. However, we shouldn't expect much from a Police which has hundreds and thousands of incompetent and inept officers all thanks to political appointments. Police reforms had been done in KPK and the guy who straight up things was Nasir Durani. He has been appointed in Punjab cabinet to bring reforms in Punjab Police - again no small task and need time.

These are enough indicator for me to know Khan's direction and intentions.

Good luck with your work, we will certainly touch base latter and I really hope till then more projects will be materialized.

    ISLAMABAD:

Government officials ‘appointed illegally’ by former finance minister Ishaq Dar were removed, said Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry in a press conference on Thursday.

Saeed Ahmed, chairman of National Bank of Pakistan; Tahira Raza, president of First Women Bank, Syed Talat Mehmood, president of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited; and Ehsanul Haq Khan, president of SME Bank were among those removed.

Regulators appointed during the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government’s tenure have also been removed. These include Jameel Ahmed and Shamsul Hassan, deputy governors of Pakistan State Bank; and M.S Vadiya Khalil, Dr Mohammad Saleem and Shahzad Ansar of the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP).

Chaudhry said only the federal government had the power to make these appointments and Dar had requested the authority be extended to him.

“The illegal appointments made by Ishaq Dar, the people involved in those are being removed,” Chaudhry said.

Dar was removed from office by the Supreme Court in 2017 during the tenure of the previous government, on the grounds that he had assets exceeding his legally declared income.

Should I believe Dawn or what Gov is talking in Parliament and tons of other media channels are reporting?

And BTW: dont trust Dawn with your eye closed. Check with 2/3 other sources too, because at times their stories are misleading.

Pakistan is too cheap of a country and the people still complain
