The top 2 teams in the table lock horns today. Peshawar finished top of the group on run rate in the group stage.

Both teams have already faced each other in two games in the group stage and both times the Gladiators came out on top. They won their first encounter by six wickets at Dubai on February 15 and the second by eight wickets at Abu Dhabi on March 4.

Who will come out on top and secure their place in the final? Loser will still have another chance so all is still not lost

Quetta, Peshawar battle for place in final as PSL enters playoff stage
The first finalist of the Pakistan Super League season four will be decided tonight as Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi will play the qualifier match in National Stadium Karachi at 7 pm.

On Monday, Zalmi defeated Karachi Kings in their backyard by 61 runs defending 204 runs and topped the points table. While the Gladiators is currently at the second spot in the points table with 14 points to its name.

Both the teams have won seven games out of ten in the tournament so far. Quetta Gladiators had brushed aside Peshawar Zalmi in both league matches of this year’s edition. They won their first match by six wickets at Dubai on February 15 and the second by eight wickets at Abu Dhabi on March 4.

It is pertinent to mention here that both the teams have formidable sides with local and international players. In the batting order, in-form openers Kamran Akmal and Imam-ul-Haq have been the key for Zalmi with their consistency at the top, while Gladiators’ star Shane Watson along with Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad are the biggest threat to Peshawar’s bowling.

On the bowling side, Peshawar Zalmi bowling is considered to be the strongest among all teams with the paceman Hasan Ali leading the charge with 21 tickets in the tournament so far. He is backed with Wahab Riaz who has been a key to the side in the bowling department and have picked up 13 wickets respectively.

On the other hand, Quetta has also a balanced bowling line-up with Sohail Tanvir, Muhammad Hasnain and Muhammad Nawaz.

The winner of today’s match will directly go to the final to be held on March 17 at Karachi. The loser will get another chance to qualify for the finals as they take on the winner of the first Eliminator at Karachi on March 15.

Peshawar Zalmi: Darren Sammy (captain), Kamran Akmal (wk), Imam-ul-Haq, Kieron Pollard, Misbah-ul-Haq, Liam Dawson, Umar Amin, Sohaib Maqsood, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Umaid Asif, Sameen Gul, Ibtisam Sheikh, Dawid Malan, Chris Jordan.

Quetta Gladiators: Sarfraz Ahmed (captain & wk), Shane Watson, Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Rilee Rossouw, Dwayne Smith, Ahsan Ali, Sohail Tanvir, Anwar Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Ghulam Mudassar, Mohammad Irfan, Fawad Ahmed, Mohammad Asghar, Saud Shakeel.

    Players to watch out for

Quetta boost of a very strong batting line-up with Shane Watson on top of the run charts with 352 in 10 matches. The former Australia all-rounder will hope to make his first visit to Pakistan for HBL PSL memorable in the last round with big scores.

Umar Akmal (255 runs), Ahmed Shehzad (252) and Rile Rossouw (245) make the top-order strong, while Sarfaraz, Bravo, Anwar and Mohammad Nawaz make the middle and lower-order formidable.

Quetta bowling is led by ever-green Twenty20 globe-trotter Sohail Tanvir who has 15 wickets while spinner Nawaz has 11. The newly emerged (also selected for Pakistan against Australia for ODIs) Mohammad Hasnain remains a threat with his speed.

Peshawar will be happy at the return to form of Kamran Akmal who smashed a 48-ball 86 against Karachi in the last league game, while Imamul Haq, Liam Dawson, Darren Sammy and Kieron Pollard can also be depended on when needed.

Peshawar’s pace attack is their strong point as it can pose big challenge for Quetta’s batting. Hasan Ali leads the wicket chart with 21 wickets in 10 games and is ably complemented by Wahab Riaz (13 wickets), Sameen Gul (nine), Umaid Asif (seven) and Tymal Mills (five).

    Conditions

The pitch in Karachi has so far proven to be, more or less, batsmen’s paradise with high-scoring encounters, during the Pakistan leg of HBL PSL matches.

Of the four matches played this year, thrice the team batting first posted a total in excess of 190.

Poor decision by Sammy of bowling first. Should have batted first imo.

Zalmi isn't learning. Playing with 4 specialist fast bowlers, are you kidding me? I fear a ridiculous batting collapse today. Insane strategy. Looks like they don't wanna win.
