Misbah not to take part in PSL4: reports

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Misbah ul Haq has decided to not be a part of the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), reports said.

Celebrated skipper, who captained the two-time champion Islamabad United, has been with the franchise since the very beginning.

According to reports, talks are underway between the 44-years old cricketer and the franchise for his next possible role with them.

Misbah is expected to come on board as a mentor for Islamabad United in the following edition of PSL, reports claimed.

How franchises earn money through the teams they buy in different leagues? is that only for promotional purposes or they get the reward in terms of money?

How franchises make money is depends on league. There are different models for different league around the world.

For instance, in PSL different franchises worth differently, as highlighted below.

    upload_2018-11-1_14-20-4.png

All the owners have their teams for 10 years, which means the above amount they have to pay in 10 years. This means if cost of IU is 15 Million so they have to pay 15 crore every year to PCB (you can do the math for others yourself based on the chart I shared above).

    upload_2018-11-1_14-23-12.png

Now lets come on how franchises make money?

    1) PSL's biggest source of income in sponsorship, i.e. HBL, which gives $6 Million (60 crore) for 3 years to PCB, which means $2 Million (20 crore) every year. PCB keeps 15% and remaining 85% is divided among franchise owners. This means franchise owners make $ 1.6/1.7 Million (16/17 crore) every year and PCB makes 3/4 crore.

    2) PSL's second source of income is broadcasting: For 3 years PCB has given broadcasting rights to Vine and Sunset for $15 Million, which means Sunset and Vine have to give 50 crore to PCB every year for 3 years. PCB keep 20% (10 crore) and 80% (40 crore) goes to franchises owners.

    3) Team main sponsorship: Every team has many sponsorship associated with them, sure you would've noticed it. i.e. Haier is associated with Zalim and ARY is sponsor of KK.

    4) Logo: Every team has many small or big logo's, which pay these teams a lot in crore's.

    5) Ground sponsorship: In ground you will see sponsor almost everywhere, of course PCB and franchises make money from ground sponsorship too in same 20% and 80% ratio.

    6) Tickets: This is where PSL is not doing good, because crowd sux's in UAE specially in Dubai. When PSL will move to Pakistan, then a lot money will come from "Tickets" too.

    7) Marchandise: Marchandise of every team also produce revenue for them.

Franchises spend money is buying players, they have to player based on its category. And of course, franchises also pay for players accommodation, commute, food and fitness etc. Of course they also have to pay their coaching staff and management along with match organization fee. This org fee goes toward ground staff. Also, franchises spend so much money on marketing.

So now you have an idea how much franchises make and how much they spend.

PCB and all franchises are making money, except LQ I think.

BIG NEWS... or may be not:

Sunil Narine & Umar Akmal are acquired by Quetta Gladiators in exchange of Rahat Ali & Hassan Khan from Lahore Qalandars.

So this practically also means Lahore will take Quetta’s first round Platinum pick whereas Quetta will get Lahore’s Silver round pick for the second round

Lahore Qalandars and Brendon McCullum part ways

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars have decided not to retain New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum for the next edition of the tournament.

The former Black Caps captain took to Twitter to announce his departure with the team.

“A big thank you to Lahore Qalandars for the past two seasons. Today we have parted ways but I leave with fond memories and friendships. I wish you all the best in the future. To the Rana family, a special thank you. Our friendship will always remain,” he wrote.

McCullum played 18 games for Qalandars with his best score being 44. He led the Qalandars in two editions of PSL with the Qalandars finishing at the bottom in both the editions.

However, it is still unclear if the franchise will retain McCullum in a non-playing role or not.

Further, a decision regarding the new captain is likely to be made following this month’s players draft for the league.

According to sources, Qalandars will have a new captain for the next edition of the tournament.

The fourth edition of PSL will start from February 14th, 2019 with eight matches being scheduled to be held in Pakistan.

AB de Villiers set to represent Lahore Qalandars in PSL4 as McCullum departs

Former South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman AB de Villiers will represent Lahore Qalandars during the fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League, according to Daily Express.

The Lahore Qalandars will make the first pick during the draft on November 20 because they finished last in the previous edition of the league.

Also former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman and captain of Lahore Qalandars Brendon McCullum has also decided to part ways with the team — a decision which he announced through his official Twitter account.

Hafeez bids goodbye to Peshawar Zalmi

Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez will not represent Peshawar Zalmi during the fourth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL).

In all three previous editions of the league, Hafeez represented the Zalmis but in the next edition he will don the colours of a new franchise.

It must be noted that Hafeez played a key role in Zalmi's title winning campaign in the second edition of PSL.

Hafeez accumulated 671 runs in 31 innings for Peshawar Zalmi at an average of 22.36 which included four half-centuries. He also picked up seven wickets in six innings with the ball.

PCB likely to make PSL a separate entity: reports

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has begun consultation with legal advisors to make the Pakistan Super League (PSL) a separate entity by detaching itself from the tournament, media reports emerged.

PSL overhaul was primarily initiated in November last year when then the PSL chief Najam Sethi prepared an initial draft proposing “that the PSL be made a separate entity run by its own governing board.”

Earlier, former PCB chief Shahryar Khan had expressed concerns about the delinking of the event from the cricketing body albeit he was part of the governing body that unanimously approved the proposal.

Suffering obstacles time and again, the idea never really succeeded.

The cricket governing body, however, has initiated the discussions once again to separate the league from itself and has also “instructed its legal department to draft a proposition detailing the process.”

The fourth edition of PSL will start from February 14, 2019, in the UAE. Last eight games will be played in Pakistan with final match due to be played in Karachi on March 17.

NZ all-rounder Anderson to take part in PSL-4

LAHORE: New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson will take part in the fourth edition the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to be played next year in the United Arab Emirates. Hard-hitting Anderson, who has played 13 Tests, 49 ODIs and 31 T20Is for his country, has been inducted in the platinum category of the PSL draft – which will take place on November 20 in the federal capital. Anderson broke Shahid Afridi’s record for the fastest ODI century when he cracked the milestone off just 36 balls, on New Year’s Day in 2014 against West Indies. South African AB de Villiers broke Anderson’s record a year later, reaching the ton off 31 balls against West Indies. AB de Villiers and Australia’s Steve Smith are some of the other high-profile players headlining the PSL roster. Windies trio of Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine are also part of the platinum players list. Australian star Chris Lynn, who was ruled out of last year’s tournament for Lahore Qalandars due to an injury, has also signed for the upcoming season of PSL.

KARACHI: Former South Africa wicketkeeper-batsman AB de Villiers and former Australia captain Steve Smith will be part of Pakistan Super League’s fourth edition (PSL) but on a conditional agreement. According to details, De Villiers will be available for only two weeks while Smith has only agreed to play the matches held in United Arab Emirates (UAE). The initial list for PSL 4 draft – scheduled to take place on November 20 – has been finalised with at least 682 cricketers which includes 371 foreign and 311 local cricketers. Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum and Australian opener Chris Lynn will only be available for the league following the conclusion of Big Bash League (BBL). Sikandar Raza says it will be great to play PSL in Pakistan

The fourth edition of the hugely successful Pakistan Super League will take place early next year. For a cricketer like Sikandar who has early childhood friends and family roots in Pakistan, the opportunity to play in such a premier Twenty20 tournament is one that he will accept with both hands.

“It would be great to be part of the Pakistan Super League and I can only hope that my good recent performances catch someone’s attention and open the door for my participation in the PSL. I understand that eight of the matches for the next edition will be played in Pakistan and as someone who has family and friends from Pakistan, it would be a great honour to play for one of the franchises in the PSL. I have had prior experience of the passion for the game in Pakistan during our visit in 2015 with the Zimbabwe team and to play in such an atmosphere again would be a fantastic experience for me.”

For a consummate professional like Sikandar Raza, any chance of challenging himself in tough situations and improving his skills by playing in top-class tournaments is one that he will not let go and playing in the Indian Premier League would be one such opportunity but he is aware that he has to keep himself focused on immediate goals and bigger opportunities will follow logically.

“One can wish for many good things in life, however fantastic they may be so playing in the Indian Premier League is another option that I would love to have. But, at the moment, my focus is to get myself a place in the UAE T20x and PSL tournaments and if I can get that to happen, and get noticed due to good performances and be included in the IPL, then that would be a great outcome,” he concluded.

PSL-4: Interesting scenario ahead as teams close to finalise players' retention

KARACHI: With the players draft for the 4th edition of Pakistan Super League just days away and franchises’ management having final discussion over players combination, the PCB has released a list of Diamond, Gold, Silver and Emerging category players.

The quest for platinum category players is also set to become more interesting as New Zealander Corey Anderson has also joined the galaxy of stars for the next edition of PSL as platinum player.

Ahead of PSL players draft which is scheduled to be held on November 20 in Islamabad, the teams will have to finalise their retention before the deadline of November 13.

Each team can go with 10 retentions. This could be any combination staying within the limits of a maximum of three players each in Platinum, Diamond and Gold. Teams can retain up to five Silver and two Emerging players.

Keeping this in mind, the hot picks in this year's draft will be AB de Villiers, Mohammad Hafeez, Steve Smith, Corey Anderson, Thisara Perera from Platinum.

In Diamond and Gold, teams will be looking at players like Ben Dunk, Dawid Malan, Sikandar Raza, Brendan Taylor, James Vince, Tim Bresnan, Ben Cutting, Dan Christian, Ben Laughlin, Qais Ahmad and Wayne Parnell.

Players, who agree, may also drop down from Platinum to Diamond, Diamond to Gold and Gold to Silver, should they go unpicked in their preferred rounds.

Lahore Qalandars, that earlier released Brendon McCullum from the roster and traded Sunil Narine and Umar Akmal with Quetta has currently Fakhar Zaman and Chris Lynn in Platinum players list.

Qalandars now have their eyes on South African AB de Villiers and Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez and they are likely to release Chris Lynn.

Peshawar Zalmi have Wahab Riaz, Hassan Ali and Kamran Akmal as their Platinum players at the moment and they need one foreigner in the category, which means they will have to lay off one of the three Pakistani players already with them in the top category.

They also have the option of making a top-category player as ambassador or mentor to keep him in roster.

According to PSL rules, teams are allowed to have one player mentor — anyone who has captained his national team and is inactive for a year or is retired. Teams are also allowed to have one player ambassador.

Ambassadors and mentors can drop one category below their base category.

Quetta Gladiators, who have Shane Watson and Sarfraz Ahmed in Platinum category from previous edition, has this year traded Sunil Narine.

If they keep with this formation then they won’t have to pick any Platinum category player from the draft. However, they have this option of making a player an ambassador or mentor to get a pick in top category.

Karachi Kings may do the same with Shahid Afridi, if he chose to stay with the team. They also have Mohammad Amir, Colin Munro, Colin Ingram and Babar Azam in the Platinum category. They have the option of making Afridi player mentor and player ambassador from either Aamir or Babar, which will allow them to have three remaining players as platinum category players.

Two-time champion Islamabad United have Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Luke Ronchi as their Platinum players with Misbah already stating that he won’t play PSL.

With all this scenario and likelihood, one can safely say that fans of PSL will have interesting time in next few days as build up to player draft, which is going to entertain them before the mega show.

Shaheen Afridi made Lahore Qalandars Ambassador for upcoming PSL edition

LAHORE: Pace bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been appointed Lahore Qalandars' Ambassador in the coming edition of the Pakistan Super League, to be held in February next year.

His appointment as LQ ambassador means that he has been dropped down to silver category and now Lahore will go to the PSL Draft with four Silver players namely Shaheen Shah (Ambassador), Sohail Akhtar, Hassan Khan and Agha Salman, said a spokesman for the Pakistan Cricket Board, here on Tuesday night.

Since Lahore Qalandars have already traded their second round Silver pick with Quetta Gladiators, the Qalandars have given up their first round Silver pick as a result of this move, he said.

A few officials of Multan Sultans have already started a quest to repurchase the sixth franchise of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) ahead of the season four.

Multan Sultans franchise was sold for $5.2 million per annum on an eight-year agreement.

Meanwhile, the board has also kept the contracts of players a coaching staffs for the upcoming season.

On the other hand, another franchise who failed to deposit its bank guarantee at the end of the deadline, has now deposited 50 per cent of the fee and assured the board to deposit the remaining amount with in next given date.
