ISLAMABAD: Islamabad United mentor Waqar Younis on Thursday said that Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches should also be held in Rawalpindi, hours before his side played Quetta Gladiators in an HBL All-Star Muqabla exhibition match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

“In the fourth edition of the PSL, the Pindi Stadium should be utilised as a venue for matches,” the legendary paceman said sitting alongside United captain Misbah-ul-Haq and owner Ali Naqvi. “This exhibition match should be a trailer for that.”

The match was played amid much fanfare and razzmatazz of top-notch artists as former Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and former captain Moin Khan were amongst the stars who featured.

Misbah said his side was focused on the third edition of the glitzy T20 league which begins from February 22 in Dubai. This year Karachi will become the second local venue when it stages the final on March 25 after Lahore hosted the showpiece match of the previous edition.

“The PSL has produced several stars and in the future, more players will emerge,” Misbah said.

United owner Naqvi hailed the decision to hold this season’s final in Karachi and reiterated Waqar’s stance that Pindi should be considered as a venue in the future.

“If the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants to use the Pindi Stadium in the fourth edition, I’m ready to help in the renovation of the venue,” he said.

No one thinks of Peshawar. They think it is situated somewhere outside Pakistan.

No one has decided that any games will be played in Rawalpindi. Waqar (who is with Islamabad remember) said they should, just as Javed Afridi/Zalmi said games should be played in Peshawar. In fact, Governor KPK even said that games will be played in Peshawar (turned out to be bakwaas of course).

Rawalpindi probably wont get any games anyway.

PCB now plans to have PSL matches in Pindi also

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after Lahore and Karachi now plans to extend the Pakistan Super League to other cities and with the Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi is believed to come under the radius. The PCB is planning to construct a new building at the stadium, which would be completed in six months. An official of the PCB informed that the construction of the stadium is also part of the domestic development plan. He said that the cricket board aims to makeover the Pindi stadium along with others stadiums of the country. The construction of the stadium, which has a capacity of 25,000 people, was completed in 1992 and it hosted its first one-day game the very same year. The first test match on this venue was played in 1993.

Both Pindi and Peshawar should have PSL matches. In fact Quetta and AJK too.

hopefully we get to see matches in Peshawar soon. I remember even in 90s and early 2000s Peshawar barely got to hold international matches.

I live 3km away from Pindi Stadium. Its next to impossible securing it due to dense population along with markets living very next to it.
