Day 2 was all about Root and Woakes. Pakistan appeared to have given up on bowling England out. The fields were defensive, the bowling changes pedestrian.

Misbah is a good captain when things are going his way but he’s never been the sort of Captain who can turn a match upside down with his strategies.

The English batsmen know these conditions well and they were determined not to have to chase a big total in the last innings. Not with Yasir Shah and reverse swing to contend with.

Root score a double century posting a career best score for him. Even the nightwatchman scored more runs that Pakistan’s first 4 wickets fell for.

Before the series started all the talk was about Anderson. Cook, Broad and Root. Nobody was expecting Woakes to put in what could be a career best if not career defining performance.

Whether it’s with the bat or with the ball, Woakes has really taken the game to Pakistan. He had a claim to the man of the match in the first Test but Yasir outshone him. He’s looking good for another 5 wicket haul to add to his first innings 50 but it’s very likely that man of the match will go to Root this time regardless of the result.

Another performance like this in the 3rd or 4th Test will surely have Woakes taking man of the series.

Woakes is an amazing find for England..as if stokes was not enough. Now they have two potentially world class allrounders.

Both woakes and stokes will get into any international team as bowers alone.. And they're both excellent batters

iam greatly impressed from woakes.. despite the fact that he is massively talented, he is a very hard working player.. and his batting, he can both grind it out and hit big as well.

and a very intelligent bowler.. knows how to set up a batsman

Extremely poor stuff by Pak batters today. Pitch is still great for batting but the negative mindset cost them dearly.

Azhar and YK dismissals were v poor strokes. Both have failed miserably so far. Azhar can't score runs at all and is just blocking, creating pressure not only on himself but his partner also.

Rahat Ali has to be the worst night watchman, one delivery outside off and he played it lol. nearly edged it to slip when he is supposed to be protecting a wicket for the close.

Hafeez got a good ball and Shan doesn't even look international standard. Surprised he didn't get out lol.

Tomorrow there is a chance for rain and let's hope it rains cats and dogs now. We can still draw this with the help of rain.

Agree. Woakes himself asked cook for promotion as he was gona send a night watchman lol, shows he is hungry to contribute to the team. I always like quality bowling all rounders, they are a rare breed and a great asset to the team.

Sat through a full day's play today watching England dominate us and will be returning back tomorrow for more.

The body language all day from the team on the field was as if they were just waiting for the declaration after they realised that they were not going to bowl England out.

I had a feeling once we went in to bat that we were going to struggle but was hoping it was just the 1 or 2 wickets. Seeing us 4 down with 3 days still to go in this test does not give me hope. With both Azhar and Younis back in the but we have lost 2 of our grafters who could have grinded out a long innings. Hafeez is just a wicket waiting to happen so his loss was expected. As for our night watchman, the less said, the better.

A lot now depends on the next few partnerships. First between the two at the crease. Masood has lasted quite a few balls, he needs to start from where he finished off today. Misbah we know has the temprement but we need it now more than ever. With Shafiq and Sarfraz the only real batsmen left to come after this we need somehow to get a few hundred partnerships. Forget about the score, forget about winning. It's all about survival now. Doesn't matter how long it takes. If you really want to be known as a top test team then go out there and prove yourselves. Go out and prove you belong with the top teams.

Have to give it to England for coming back strong in this test. Watching Root bat in person was a treat. Yes the pitch was easy to bat on but the kid is full of talent. His innings allowed the rest of the English batsmen to come out and play with ease.

What a find Woakes has been for England. What a player to send in as night watchman. Was playing our bowlers like a top order batsman at times! Showed our tail how it is done!

Another point I noticed is how quick Ben Stokes actually is as a bowler. I have seen him on the tv many times but he never looked that quick. The England team is full of talent at the moment.

I saw Ben stokes bowl live in SA and he was very quick in rl. Surprised me also. He looked the quickest of the lot that day
