And this logic of a later order batsman had to go for shots which affects his average wont work either because his strike rate is only 76.

Ideally he wouldn't be captain right now and we could have dropped him for Rizwan but PCB decided to stick with him so now we are stuck with him inspite of his dismal batting performance.

Should be acceptable for a poor team like Pak.Our main pacer is non performing, our senior most batter is non performing but is a must coz he's senior, so if Sarf isn't batting well then there is not much we can do especially when we haven't groomed another player to be the captain of the team.Who else can skip this side in WC?
After the WC Pak should get rid of players like Aamer,Sarfraz (esp in tests and OD)Malik, as we have better talent available who should be given a long run for better results.

He is the weakest batting link in the team and I'm sure the coaches know that also. But he is also captain.

A conundrum that is not new to Pakistan cricket.

11 single digit scores in 19 innings. Remarkable.

the funny part is i feel he doesn't work much on his batting.
because i have seen players like Rizwan,Imad Wasim improve their batting but Sarfraz seems to not bother much, his fitness for me is still an issue, cause i have seen him panting after running between the wickets (when he plays a bit long)

And this is why I don't understand the rabid support he has from his fans and his minions in the media. Everyone loves to present him as the victim of Inzi and Mickey's shenanigans. But he has been amongst the worst performers for a long time and should have been dropped along with Malik and Amir over a year ago. But for some reason he has tremendous support amongst sports journalists in Pakistan and they never question his performance.

Its too late now, but after this WC I would love to see Umar Siddiq keeping for Pakistan, who can even do opening.

Sarfaraz should be gone either way.

If we do well, he should call it a day in odis on a high note.
If we dont perform well, he should get the boot.

But considering the mentality of Pakistani players and the culture, he will drag it at least until 2023 WC.

whats the point of this thread? hes not in the side for his batting, hes there because there is no other viable captain, and his keeping is adequate. the former is enough for there not to be any further discussion.

if you want to change him, who captains? if there was another captain, it would be a close call between him and Rizwan in the side, surely.

No one wants to change him but this is a statistical reflection of how poor he has been contrary to the reports that he is from KCCA and harshly treated.

If we dont perform well, then he will be temporarily drop, because there is no such thing called " retire on high note" in Pakistan cricket (we only had one exception).

I can see him playing till 2023, it will be up to PCB, Coach and CS to either select or ignore him.

There is reason why Sarfraz is still playing, his batting in second Test against Australia was good. Pakistan fans should stop being deluded, with Sarfraz basically you will lose without him you'll get smashed fgs please stop acting as if some Adam Ghilcrist is in domestics, bring falan in, bring falan in. It won't work.

So we shouldnt highlight his mediocre number if there is no replacement ? What kind of logic is this ?

No, you should highlight his stats however I'm saying that no one can do better that's all.

The same logic is being applied here which was applied for Misbah when he was Captain . If not him then who should Captain Pakistan? What a stupid logic.

No its not, because changing captain just when the WC is around the corner will lead to disaster.
After the WC, PCB should look for a different captain, someone like Babar azam should be given the task.

Should have dropped him and given Malik captaincy until the WC. But that boat has sailed now and we're stuck with a likely terrible WC showing with a team full of non-performers and accumulators. The series with Aus is a sign of what is likely to come this WC when we play good sides.

Did you not see the lack of intensity when they were playing under Malik !?!?

Lack of intensity is overstatement. The guy went to field on the boundary for a long period of Australian innings and that to long on where even ordinary fielder can do the same job, it says a lot about Malik and his careless approach however this was stupid, careless, cowardly and selfish rolled into one.

Not surprising, that whole tour was treated by the PCB and Mickey as net practice. Besides, Sarfraz isn't exactly such an amazing captain that it would be hard to top him. What I'm saying is that we can't afford to carry both Sarfraz and Malik in the team with their batting form and compete at this level unless we want to treat the WC as net practice as well.

Malik’s captaincy is easily the most spineless, gutless captaincy I’ve seen in some time. Imad isn’t tactically the best but atleast the team looked interested and competitive under him in the last 2 ODIs @Mohammed Bilal

Also Sarfraz is no Imran Khan, but from this bunch, he is easily the best tactician.
