ISLAMABAD: One more team will be added to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) family in 2020 raising the total strength to seven, confirmed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Najam Sethi in an interview.

Six teams will again be seen in action in the fourth edition next year and then the strength of teams going up in 2020. “The city that makes the highest bid will be given the rights for the seventh team. At this point we don’t want to hurry up things rather than concentrating on making the PSL more formidable and eye catching. It is where we would be in a position to get best deal for the seventh team.”

Sethi recalled that Karachi Kings were sold out for around Rs250 million at the outset of the league. “Following its two years of success, we sold Multan Sultans’ rights for over Rs500 million. So once we would be in a position to hold majority of matches in Pakistan, I am sure we would get even bigger amount for the seventh team.”

The PCB chairman, who is also the chief executive PSL, ruled out organising all league matches in Pakistan starting from 2019. “That is not possible because of complications involved. Grounds in Pakistan are not ready for so many matches and secondly crew handles PSL live coverage has its limitations and complications.”

Regarding stadiums’ capacity, Sethi said that the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and National Stadium in Karachi were in a position to host PSL matches. “Efforts are on to make Multan and Pindi stadiums worthy of hosting matches.”

Punjab Cricket Board. This Sethi seems to be a racist. Mention of Multan and Pindi ahead of Peshawar, Quetta, Gilgit and Kashmir exposes him. Now people will say there are many cricket followers in Punjab hence more cities included from it, which doesn’t make sense, as ideally you have to give importance to the representative city from each province first, then move on to other cities. Ideally, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Gilgit, Islamabad, Kashmir should have been given importance without mentioning other cities, after that moving on to Multan and Pindi would have been acceptable.

The question is if Peshawar is safe for cricket.

Uneducated question. Do you even follow Pakistan affairs? Do you even know whats going on in Pakistan? KP police is the best in Pakistan, and you are asking whether Peshawar is safe for cricket. Karachi should be more unsafe, because Rangers are still operating there, as Police is weak, yet cricket is played there.

I dont think they will go the controversial route to name a team after Azad Kashmir. It will most likely going to be Faisalabad

That will be controversial also considering we already have Lahore and Multan (the latter was still understandable to represent South Punjab). Another team from Punjab and FATA (the 2 main suggestions that we see) is pointless as we have Punjab representation and we have Peshawar already.

If not Gilgit or Kashmir then maybe Hazara representation with Abbotabad possibly?

Isn't Punjab the largest province in terms of population. How many people live in Gilgit, Hazara ? If idea is to have teams representing the people then Faisalabad should be the 7th team or Hyderabad in Sindh.

Yes Faisalabad would be risky politically and Muzafarabad would cause unnecessary needle with the Indians and we have it bad enough with them already we don't need to do something like that at the moment.

I'm guessing it will be Gilgit or possibly Hyderabad.

Aren't we all from same race? We should thinks as Pakistanis first not regionally.
Plus, Multan and Pindi already hosted many international matches, 1st fix them, Quetta should be next.

Provinces are there for a reason. Each representative of a province must be given importance first, before moving on to other cities of Punjab. Lahore represents Punjab, it has already hosted PSL games, isn’t that enough for now? I am from Peshawar, which is a representative of KPK, don’t we deserve a PSL game ahead of Multan or Rawalpindi? Yes we do, as Punjab has already been allotted PSL games for now, enough for now. Hosting games in Multan and Pindi ahead of Peshawar, is Punjab first.

This is your childish mind speaking. It's not realistic to host in Peshawar at this moment.

The facilities aren't up to standard and a lot more safety concerns. It would be a lot easier to host in Multan and Pindi so they're obviously gonna take the easier route.

What safety concerns? Do you even live in Pakistan? Peshawar is the safest city in Pakistan, thanks to the best police in Pakistan. A typical blind statement coming from a person belonging to another province, who knows nothing of the ground realities.

As far as the facilities are concerned, the work has been started, can be completed till next PSL.

Mate, given the attacks this past decade, it is not safer in comparison to Multan and Pindi. It's heading in the right direction but it takes time to restore reputation and image.

    "Can be" good answer.

Yet again, talking blindly. Peshawar is safer than Pindi and Multan. If a Pakistani like you have such thoughts about another city, despite the vast improvements , then its quite unfair. Despite terrorism in Lahore or Karachi, I never told anyone that these cities are unsafe, as I knew its our own country, we have to support each other no matter what. A Pakistani telling another Pakistani that your city isn’t safe, feels tragic and unfair, without knowing the ground realities.

Oh bhai, my opinion doesn't matter, neither does yours. It's the general opinion. If you want to convince the PCB otherwise, go ahead and send them a proposal why it is safer to host in Peshawar.

Your opinion does matter. At least, don’t say Peshawar has safety concerns, without knowing the ground realities, because such a statement coming from a fellow Pakistani, feels unfair. We all have a common enemy, terrorism in Lahore or Karachi won’t affect its image in my mind.

As far as PCB is concerned, it seems Punjab Cricket Board currently.

Hopefully, after IK becomes the PM, a ‘nationalist’ administrator will replace Sethi, so that equality can be served :D

The reason there are provinces is for the administration and ethnicity not the Race. Ethnicity and Race are not same, you my friend have to look deep inside yourself and realize that you may be a raciest.

PSL is a business and for regional representation there are other tournaments.

These provinces have ruined Pakistan, dividing it along ethnic lines, sowing seeds of hatred, discrimination and racism everywhere, the sooner we get rid of provinces based on ethnicities and languages, the better.

    WE all are Pakistanis.
