LAHORE: Wrist spinner Shadab Khan has been ruled out of the series against England after tests revealed a virus that will require treatment and rest for at least four weeks.

The series against England, comprising a T20I and five ODIs, will be played from May 5 to 19.

The Pakistan Cricket Board will now set up Shadab’s appointment with specialists in England to help him fully recover before Pakistan’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 opener against the Windies on May 31 at Trent Bridge.

Details about Shadab’s replacement will be announced in due course.

The selectors have already included Asif Ali and Mohammad Amir as additional players to the 15-player World Cup squad. Pakistan, like any other participating side, has the flexibility to make changes to their World Cup squad until May 23.

If it is Hepatitis C this could be career threatening. Forget about WC. May Allah recover him from this illness.

That’s bad. Hopefully he can recover from this.

Bizarre to selecta Yasir who had a poor series v Aus, rather select a young spinner from the PSL or gamble on Haris Rauf.

They should be playing 3 seamers and Faheem, Imad. With Hafeez as the 6th bowler.

Haris Rauf hasn't performed as much. Lol I've told you already that India have 7 express fast bowlers but chose none as for Pakistan we've had four and two are in the team. Shaheen and Hasnain, the lesser bowlers imo Musa and Haris have missed out.

    Is this a potential STD?

I think he is lucky that it seems curable. Wish him a speedy recovery.

“Hepatitis C (HCV) is spread through contact with an infected person's blood -- which may be present because of genital sores or cuts or menstruation.HCV has been detected with greater-than-average frequency among people who have a history of sexual promiscuity -- which can be defined as a history of a sexually transmitted disease, sex with a prostitute, more than five sexual partners per year, or a combination of these.“

Haris is a gamble and he could explode on to the scene. Makes no sense to select Yasir who is poor in ODIs

I would also like to give a generous chance to Hasnain and ready to give him a lot of encouragement, training and advise to analayze his game and sort out the short comings, and even give him more chances if gets hammered.

IMO, he has the talent, and this is one way of how you groom the talent.

I hope the management treats his talent right.

If he is dumb enough not to know how to F, then perhaps prayers won’t help him.

I am a great fan of his fielding and believe that he is the best fielder we got.
I pray that he gets well soon and God gives him shifa-e-Kamla and wisdom.

There are plenty ways to get hepatitis c, let’s not jump to conclusions. That is if he has it in the first place. Wish him a speedy recovery.

The other way is blood transfusion.

You tell me, what’s the other way one can get Hep C?

The other way I think is, is getting it by birth (mother’s placenta) where the visrus stays quite in your body but explodes at anytime during your life, or the other way I can think of is perhaps using contaminated dental instruments?

Either way, I wish him a speedy recovery.

Can we please not talk about the reasons/causes of this ilness and wish the young man a swift recovery. If we cant wish him health, then better shut our mouth.

We have become so inhumane. Where is the compassion ?

Advised bed rest 30-90 days however it takes 5-6 months to recover fully.

Wish him well, hope the PCB make the right decision, you won't lose nothing if Shadab doesn't play the world cup as we aren't wining it anyways tbh, instead of risking his whole career I'd rather we work towards Mumbai 2023 when we will have a top team with good players in their peak.

For sure. However, I feel if Amir does well v Eng the selectors will drop Hasnain as he’s an easy target. Let’s see what happens v eng.

No reason to speculate as there are innumerable ways to catch something like Hep C e.g. if the dentist you go to doesn't follow the correct sterilization procedures for instruments. Also, there is no reason to assume it is Hep C, it could be something else like Mono that can requires weeks for recovery and even afterwards, makes one more susceptible to a ruptured spleen.

Many may not agree but if Amir does well then I will probably drop Shaheen or even Junaid.

I would also drop Imam. Not only a parchi type Fazool player who isn’t qualified to play either T20, ODI, or Tests but more importantly we do NOT need two lefties in the opening - we need a right hand, left hand combo to disrupt the bowler’s focus.

    For the bold part,
Trying to copy American Ebonic slang to sound cool or you don’t know what it grammatically means?

For the part where you tried to elaborate on risk vs reward in a deep philosophical tone, I think it’s a pretty obvious assertion, and everyone already knows it. But thank you anyway.

And for the speculation of having a “TOP team with good players” in Mumbai 2023, I don’t you know the future. So avoid shooting from the hip because you don’t really know what happens in 2023.

And by the way, technically a “Top team” is probably not comprised of “good players”, it probably has excellent world class stars who are ready to fight like street warriors for their country, unlike many pak players who can’t balance out between selflessly playing for the country and playing to solidify their spot in the team.

    Lol, what's American ebonic slang????

Top team basically means top 4 team, during match of the day they call almost every talented player top, Pakistan will be a top team because we have a few talented players in domestic and in international cricket guys like Babar, Hassan, Shaheen, Shadab, Imam will be in their peak.

As for PCB, the Sharjeel incident comes to mind where they did not give lectures on corruption and in that we lost Sharjeel so it's important the PCB resolute out and go for safety first option.

Shadab off to England for treatment

LAHORE: Luckless leg-spinner Shadab Khan left for London late on Tuesday to consult a specialist to cure his virus-related disease, which has prevented him from accompanying the World Cup-bound squad that reached London earlier on Tuesday.

Shadab, 20, was last Thursday selected as a member of the squad for the five-game ODI series against England (to be staged from May 8 to 19) and the May 30-July 14 World Cup.

However, on Sunday, the shocking news about the bowler’s illness surfaced as a result of the blood test reports.

The development has come as a major setback for Pakistan since Shadab is considered as a key bowler of the team. In his place, the selection committee has included another leg-spinner Yasir Shah who possesses a very ordinary ODI record.

For Shadab, the PCB has arranged an appointment with Dr Patrick Kennedy in London on Thursday and Friday.

Though the team management still hopes that Shadab -- having claimed 47 wickets in 34 ODIs at 27.74 -- will be fit before the start of the World Cup, presently it looks difficult as at least five to six weeks are required for the bowler to recover fully.

Hmm... so even after that downright pathetic series against AUS, where Aussie spinners were light years ahead of him, he is still selected - WHY? Its a shame !!!
