Why isnt this guy in the team? People here are talking about merit and what not, how about this for merit?:

LHB opener plays for the Hyderabad Hawks.

    319 runs @ 79.75 , with a SR of 106. 33 in the President's Cup One Day Tournament.

    His last 4 matches:

    81, 90, 61, 87

    If you go further:
    5 (but bowled and got 1/60), 86, 48.

    Technique:

I guess because Farhat, Malik and Kamran were selection on "merit".

Kamran and farhat were brought back into the team for performing against the same bowlers in the domestic circuit .. If they can break through into the team then why can't he? .. And if a leg side hacks puts up scores like these .. Then let's bring in that leg side hack into the team.

Should be tried in T20s, his stats are impressive . Although for the longer versions Khurram Manzoor and Sohaib Maqsood are better prospects and both have been in terrific form for the past year or so.

He got 9 centuries but he averages 36 in First class and 47 in List A which means he is average in Test level, but could be a better option for Odi. Let's see how he does in upcoming years but have to say he will be a not bad choice to replace Imran Farhat.

he looks rubbish, awais zia was rubbish too..... so was shahzaib. We need to stay away from ugly sloggers like that, he has no technique and looks crap.

We don't do ourselves any favours as fans, we want guys like farhat dropped but bring in guys like shahzaib and awais zia who are ugly hacks... then when they fail we obviously revert to type. Deserving players need the rewards i.e. fawad alam, harris sohail etc

If they are crap, then why they are so successful! They are getting our attention, don't they?
Does it mean our First Class level is of poor quality or our bowlers are?

When Farhat can get selected, I don't see why this guy can't get a chance.

it means we need to look at what kind of cricket they play and not be cricinfo selectors - just looking at statistics.... if in a domestic game someone like awais zia, does not face quality bowling, does not play in challenging conditions, and does not demonstrate sound technique, then we should understand the guy probably has limitations, lets send him on some A tours - maybe play some overseas cricket and see what hes about, but we are too quick to brand people the 'new' version of other past players, and thats our shortfall. We set them up to fail.

When I saw him bat and not be able to get anything off the square which was back of a length outside off I just laughed, he would not make it as a county player.

The fact that they get our attention and guys like fawad alam don't is a failure on our part. This is why we make stars out of imran nazir, afridi (his batting) and ruin mindsets for players coming through the ranks ala shehzad, umar akmal.

After both the openers not doing so well..I think its fair to rest one and try Sharjeel in their place.

Only Shehzad hasn't done well. Nasir: 6, 54, 20 and 22. On top he was run out in his last innings. It was a risky single when Hafeez called it and didn't even take the risk in the end when Nasir was half way down the pitch.

Hafeez had a moment of stupidity then anyway. Its not like Nasir's legs have Usain Bolt genes. He should have known the guy can't run for those types of singles.

Hafeez must be asked to open & bring in a specialist Keeper thereby allowing Umar Akmal to bat at number 3.

He should be given chance in T20 against Zimbabwe. Yes he is strong on leg side but can play decent shots on off side.

Smashed 194 of 124 today against a pretty decent bowling line-up of WAPDA , he also has an awesome overall record what else does he have to do to get selected?

I still don't understand how Shehzad, who averages around 20 run less than him in LIST A cricket with a much lower strike rate keeps getting selected ahead of this guy.

Sharjeel Khan averages 52.81 in 28 List A matches to date

In 4 years since his debut, he's only managed to play 28 games which probably indicates either he's been quite injury prone in the past hence very less matches or could've been out of favour.

Strange as surely he should've had over 60 games in 4 years if not more.

Actually the max a team will play in a tourney is 10 matches. There are two tourneys but he only plays one so ten matches. He plays for a weaker team, so 7 matches. And then misses a couple. Sounds about right.

Said this in another thread but fits here as well. He's sort of like the left-handed Sohaib. Fearless. He, like Sohaib, has holes in his games but those could be fixed. He's performed for a long time and deserves a chance.

List A: 30 matches, 30 innings, 1492 runs @51 with a sr of 107.80 with the highest being 194 mA.

Dont know what the selectors are thinking? Definitely brings in the region question at this point.

The major problem Sharjeel has to overcome is that he plays everything on the leg-side in domestic cricket. Looks to pull or hook every ball. The very little that I've seen of him showed a lock of an off-side game. hopefully he's improved in that area.

true but then if u think about it, hes facing bowlers like junaid, irfan etc and still averaging 50+. I really want him to be a complete player so we can have a good young, right left opening batsmen combo.

    At a pathetic strike rate.

Most off us hate Farhat reason being his selfish attitude and Ahmad has been no different either.

    There shouldn't be double standards.

Well i hate him cus he plays selfishly.

Openers from other teams try to maximize powerplay overs upfront by being aggressive while our legends see the new ball off #Respect

He's not the answer to our opening problems.
