Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif provisionally suspended by PCB

    i.jpg

The Pakistan Cricket Board have today provisionally suspended two players under its Anti-Corruption Code as part of an ongoing investigation into an international syndicate which is believed to be attempting to corrupt the Pakistan Super League which started in Dubai yesterday.

Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been suspended and the rigorous and wide-ranging investigation by the PCB supported by the ICC will continue as part of collective efforts to protect the integrity of the sport.

Najam Sethi, Chairman of the PSL said: “It would not be appropriate to comment on the specifics of the case, however this investigation is a clear demonstration of our determination to drive corruption out of our sport. We will not tolerate any form of corrupt activity and as this investigation proceeds we will not hesitate to take further decisive action as appropriate.

“The investigation of the PCB Anti-Corruption Unit backed by the ICC ACU has been effective in dealing with this case to date and we will continue to work in the closest collaboration as the investigation proceeds. We are all absolutely committed to relentlessly pursuing anyone who would seek to damage the integrity of our sport.”

Chairman PCB, Mian Shaharyar M. Khan said, “I must remind all players of their responsibilities in the fight against corruption. They must understand that if they even think they may have been the subject of a suspicious approach, it is their obligation under the PCB Anti-Corruption Code to report it to an appropriate anti-corruption official as a matter of urgency.”

“Under no circumstances will the PCB condone actions of a few individuals to bring disrepute to the game of cricket or taint the image of Pakistan.”

The PCB and the ICC will not make any further comment in respect of ongoing investigation.

      Anti corruption

Apparently a syndicate has tried to infiltrate PSL...if they are involved, should be banned for life

Oh bhai itna bhi important nahi hai. Whatever he scores with the bat he cancels with his drops and poor fielding.

If guilty they should get appropriate punishment.

Failing to report an approach isn't fixing btw, relax. We Sony know what happened yet.

But still punishable offence obviously. Couple of South Africans were banned last year/early this year for failing to report approach.

He'll be fine. Its probably going to be nothing.

      Pakistan will find another.
Though I do like watching him bat I can't help but think he's another Afridi or Akmal in the making with his style of play.
Just seems good because he had a purple patch. Won't be long before he fails and is brought back to reality

Well there's the first corruption scandal of the PSL. These lucrative T20 leagues are a ripe target for corruption, and the UAE has a history with match-fixing as 90s fans will remember.

I will reserve judgement until further details emerge but I'm extremely disappointed, not only because of the abilities of the two players in question, but how Pakistanis never seem to learn their lesson.

The players are educated about bookies approaching them so a lack of information is not an excuse. They are made aware of the consequences of failing to report an approach let alone actually engaging in fixing. The sight of their own teammates being jailed for spot fixing only six years ago should be seared into their memory.

Of course its impossible to prevent every act of human greed, but the virus of corruption infects Pakistani society at every level from top to bottom. Enough of the tough talk, no more "soft corners" for corrupt players, zero tolerance should mean zero tolerance. If these charges are serious, the maximum penalties should be imposed.

Why do we have to blame the external factors? Blaming PSL, UAE, society what not. Why not accept that these players are plain begharat? These players involved in such actions are fully aware of the consequences of their actions. The memory of the humiliation in 2010 is still afresh in the minds of the fans but these begharat 2 takkay ki aukat players have no shame. Time and time these shameless gutter individuals have dragged Pakistans name through the mud. They are paid so much yet their greed is never ending. Honestly, its just baffling that how shameless these individuals are. Such people should be whipped in public and thrown into the jail for a good amount of time and given treatment of the punjab police. No one has the right to play with the name of Pakistan. Not these uneducated shitheads.

This is the same lot that forgave the likes of Wasim, Waqar, Butt, Asif, Amir. These begharats will continue surfacing their heads until the nation stops with their shit. Cannot wait for the tin headers to bring up India/Israel/Jews in this calling them responsible for our players begharti
