Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif provisionally suspended by PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board have today provisionally suspended two players under its Anti-Corruption Code as part of an ongoing investigation into an international syndicate which is believed to be attempting to corrupt the Pakistan Super League which started in Dubai yesterday.

Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been suspended and the rigorous and wide-ranging investigation by the PCB supported by the ICC will continue as part of collective efforts to protect the integrity of the sport.

Najam Sethi, Chairman of the PSL said: “It would not be appropriate to comment on the specifics of the case, however this investigation is a clear demonstration of our determination to drive corruption out of our sport. We will not tolerate any form of corrupt activity and as this investigation proceeds we will not hesitate to take further decisive action as appropriate.

“The investigation of the PCB Anti-Corruption Unit backed by the ICC ACU has been effective in dealing with this case to date and we will continue to work in the closest collaboration as the investigation proceeds. We are all absolutely committed to relentlessly pursuing anyone who would seek to damage the integrity of our sport.”

Chairman PCB, Mian Shaharyar M. Khan said, “I must remind all players of their responsibilities in the fight against corruption. They must understand that if they even think they may have been the subject of a suspicious approach, it is their obligation under the PCB Anti-Corruption Code to report it to an appropriate anti-corruption official as a matter of urgency.”

“Under no circumstances will the PCB condone actions of a few individuals to bring disrepute to the game of cricket or taint the image of Pakistan.”

The PCB and the ICC will not make any further comment in respect of ongoing investigation.

Munna puts his talent of making up stuff to good use for writing boring articles and reports on Cricistan, though he once won the Most Cheerful Poster of Cricistan award.

Yes 2 takay ke IPL fixers banned for life (FOR FIXING, not failing to report an approach), no one asked for their return...btw was it the same when Azharuddin n Jadeja were done for match-fixing?

Probably because they wanted them players gone anyways. Sreesanth was such a poor player. Couldn't believe how he kept getting picked again and again for India. Ban was actually a blessing :p

Yeah I'm sure the rest of the players looked at Amir being imprisoned and banned for 5 years and thought, "sure, it's worth it".

Jadeja and Azhar were banned too.Azhar for life.Never did a player accused of fixing got to wear a Indian Team Shirt again.

Keep defending this lax atitude towards fixing and then you will havee such incidents because players now they will be back soon.

Don't think Amir, Asif or Butt got a heroes welcome. They were named and shamed. Banned for 5 years and had to beg to be reinstated.

Poor man's Warner or not, he is the only guy who was consistently scoring quick runs for us at the top. I hope we do find a replacement, but all the other options I can think of are either too slow or too inconsistent.

Should definitely be punished if guilty though.

I swear every time rumours of corruption and fixing are floated around the Akmals are always mentioned. Yet they are never found to be guilty.

Either they're unnecessarily targeted or the guys have some deep connections.
Can't help but think of corruption ala Kaabil movie style here

Anyone who is in their full senses and not led, yes.

Keep trying...il answer your next question by saying, there is a reason hy the legal system has 'mitigating circumstances' and differing sentences for often the same crime.

I want to ask a question here,If Sharjeel is found guilty of not reporting the approach and is banned for 1 or 2 years, how many of you will want to see him back in the side post his ban?

I dont think many would. Remember Amir, Butt and Asif were the ones banned but they weren't the first fixers. A lot have got away with murder.
