Pakistan resumed Day 2 on 334-1 with Hafeez and Azhar on 172 and 92 respectively, with Hafeez striking 2 boundaries off Kulasekara's second over. A record was broken in the next over when Hafeez and Azhar's partnership became the highest against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.

Hafeez who was looking set to get his maiden double century managed to take his overnight score to 196, before he tried a slog sweep off Herath which crashed into his stumps and it was all over for Hafeez as he trudged back to the pavilion 4 short of what would've been a well deserved double century for him.

While Azhar who usually gets stuck between the 90's took a while in there but eventually brought up his 3rd test century off a cut to the point boundary. Once he got the 100, he started to accumulate his runs in a manner with some urgency and got the 1's and 2's and ended up scoring 54 off 75 balls after that.

Younis Khan started off watchfully but once he got his feet in and started to rotate the strike much more and his SR had got up to 50 when he was on 32 but once again for the 3rd time he was unlucky to be given out and it raised another reason as to why DRS is so important in the modern day as he was adjudged LBW by Simon Taufel where he had been hit outtside the line of off, as he was starting to look good in the middle and was looking to score more with the passage of play.

Once Misbah came out to the middle there was more purpose in the innings as clouds started to hover around and some drops of rain around and the innings needed some more impetus and both Azhar and Misbah showed more urgency in the middle and got a partnership of 51 in 10 overs.

Azhar who's highest test score of 157 wasn't able to surpass it and was dismissed on his personal best, as he tried to reverse sweep a Randiv delivery but only managed to give a catch to Kulasekara.

With only 44.2 overs possible in the 2nd Day's play, Pakistan were able to add 154 and lost 3 wickets in the process. Pakistan now 488-4, will be looking to score much more quicker tomorrow and try and get the Sri Lankans in and see if their bowlers can get anything out of this wicket.

    At Stumps on Day 2 - Pakistan 488-4 (134.2 overs) Misbah-ul-Haq 29*, Asad Shafiq 1*

Hafeez batted well, credit has to be given. But the problem is, now he's booked his place in the team for many more test matches.
