The rare individual feats of Fakhar and Imam

1 Fakhar Zaman became the first Pakistan batsman to score an ODI double hundred. The record for the highest individual score for Pakistan in ODIs was held for a long time by Saeed Anwar with his then world record score of 194 against India at Chepauk in 1997. It also happens to be the highest individual score by a player from Pakistan in all List A cricket surpassing Abid Ali's 209* for Islamabad against Peshawar earlier this year.

    Highest individual scores for Pakistan
Player Runs Balls Against Venue Date
    Fakhar Zaman 210* 156 Zim Bulawayo 20-Jul-2018
    Saeed Anwar 194 146 Ind Chennai 21-May-1997
    Imran Nazir 160 121 Zim Kingston 21-Mar-2007
    Sharjeel Khan 152 86 Ire Malahide 18-Aug-2016
Younis Khan 144 122 HK Colombo (SSC) 18-Jul-2004
Shoaib Malik 143 127 Ind Colombo (RPS) 25-Jul-2004

0 Scores higher than Fakhar Zaman's 210* in ODIs played in Zimbabwe. He went past Charles Coventry's unbeaten 194 against Bangladesh in Bulawayo in 2009 which incidentally broke Saeed Anwar's then record of the highest individual score in ODIs.

Highest individual scores in all ODIs
Player Runs Balls For Against Venue Date
Rohit Sharma 264 173 Ind SL Kolkata 13-Nov-2014

Rohit Sharma 208* 153 Ind SL Mohali 13-Dec-2017
    S Tendulkar 200* 147 Ind SA Gwalior 24-Feb-2010

17 Innings taken by Fakhar Zaman to reach his maiden double hundred - the quickest by any player. Of the five other players to score ODI double hundreds, the fewest number of innings taken was 103 each by Rohit Sharma (in 2013) and Martin Guptill (in 2015).

8 Innings taken by Imam-ul-Haq to reach his third ODI century - the fewest by any player in the history of ODI cricket. He scored a hundred on his debut against Sri Lanka last October and scored his second one in the first ODI of the ongoing series in Bulawayo. The fewest innings taken by any player to reach three ODI hundreds was nine each by Denis Amiss and Kevin Pietersen.

22 Balls Taken by Asif Ali to reach his maiden ODI fifty. It is the joint fastest for Pakistan by any player apart Shahid Afridi in ODIs. Abdul Razzaq (vs England, Karachi, 2005) and Mohammad Amir (vs England, Trent Bridge, 2016) have also scored fifties off 22 balls each. For the record, Afridi has scored nine fifties in 22 or fewer balls in ODIs - the most by any player.

    The record first wicket stand
304-run stand by Imam and Fakhar is the first ever 300-plus stand for the first wicket in ODI cricket. The pair went past the 12-year old record held by the Sri Lankan duo of Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga against England at Leeds in 2006.

4 This was the fourth ever 300-plus stand for any wicket in all ODIs. The three previous 300-plus partnerships all came for the second wicket - 372 by Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels against Zimbabwe in 2015, 331 by Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid against New Zealand in 1999 and 318 by Sourav Ganguly and Dravid against Sri Lanka in 1999.

263 The previous highest stand for Pakistan for any wicket in ODI cricket. Inzamam-ul-Haq and Aamer Sohail put together 263 for the second wicket against New Zealand in Sharjah in 1994. The previous highest opening partnership for them was 228* by Mohammad and Imran Farhat against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2011.

    Pakistan's highest ODI total
399/1 is the highest ever ODI total by Pakistan. The previous highest for them was 385 for seven against Bangladesh in Dambulla in the 2010 edition of Asia Cup. It is also the highest ODI total in Zimbabwe surpassing 397 for five by New Zealand against the home side in Bulawayo in 2005.

0 Total made by a team losing one or fewer wickets than Pakistan's 399 in Bulawayo today. The previous highest was India's 362 for one chasing 360 against Australia in Jaipur in 2013.

Kisi aur ko bhi batting karne de do. I think they should make Hafeez and Shoaib Malik open in the next game and Babar Azam at 3 Asif Ali at 4 Fakhar Zaman ko 5 per rakh sakte hein since there is no Harris Sohail available!!

It’s good Malik hasn’t benefited from this series, Fakhar said at the end of the presser that even in the next match he will not let anyone bat so that means that Malik will not bat long, Faheem May even bat before him.

Hopefully all these records against a minnow will lead to more records against tougher sides. It should be a big boost psychologically, especially for the youngsters, who can hopefully break away from the negative mentality of the past.

Cannot wait for the day when Fakhar becomes our Captain, the man is respectable like Misbah and he just has charisma unlike Misbah, I really like him, he has add ons just like he can speak Urdu, English at a nice pace and tone, he’s quite smart, been in the Navy, Athletic, Aggressive opener, big match player and scores against good bowlers etc, only one question though, why did he debut for Pakistan when he was 27????

No, Babar is not a captaincy material.

He is quite obviously a natural captain, he’s captained in Domestic LA, actually he dropped Imam and played Farhan which shows his eye for Talent, he took his team to the final.
