if we count the winning % of Younis hundreds then imo he's the greatest Test batsman of all time.

Younis doesn't get the worldwide recognition as his stats suggest. Phenomenal record.

Younus definitely better stats wise however I think Inzamam was the best batsman to have played cricket!!

Always loved his batting, his attitude? EVEN MORE SO.

We have Moh Yousuf (his quest for captaincy) and those incompetent PCB chairmans to "thank" for shortning his career.

The main reason he doesn’t get enough recognition is because of his mediocre ODI cricket record.

Otherwise he has been a great batsman, watched his 200 against England and it was top class stuff.

    Phenomenal players both.

However, in my opinion, Younis was a treat to watch against spinners. Have seen him murdering spinners countless times. Playing again pace wasn't his strong area, but he used to cope up due to his resilience and don't 'give up' attitude. On contrary, Tendu was one of the best player I have seen against pace. Those punches, drives and cuts were at a different level.

That said, as my friend @mohsin88ali mentioned, Younis could've begged more runs and records, had he not missed number of Test due to various reasons, which is a shame.

@Patriot I can't even imagine what kind of backlash wouldn't have started, if you had opened this thread on PP (how dare you say a word against our GOD, this would've been the replied from many parosi posters) :p.

This just seems to be a comparison between YK and SRT because while i can't say that about 118 tests, but after 213 innings (the same as YK played) Sangakara is the leading run scorer with 11493.

There is also an error in the stats shown (something that had bothered me at first sight)
YK has 6 double centuries, not 5 as shown in the pic.

    Fun fact about those doubles....
All of those were scored in different countries, against different opponents.

    313 (Pak)
    267 (Ind)
    218 (Eng)
    214 (UAE)
    211 (Ban)
    200 (Zim)

He also scored 175 in Aus, 149 in NZ, 179 in SL (i think it was 179, in a match that Pak lost)
During that aforementioned 149 match, he also scored 91 in the first innings, the ONLY time he ever got out in nineties.

Forgive me because i seem to have gotten a few scores wrong.

In UAE , YK's double was 213, not 214 as i had written.
In Ban, his double was 200* and not 211 as i wrote.
In SL, his highest score was 177, not 179 as i remembered.

    Another fun fact.
He scored centuries against every Test playing nation but..........
In Ten countries if you include UAE.

The best ever Pakistani Test batsman. He was one hell of a player. As mentioned above had he not missed tests in prime of his career he would be close to the overall Test runs record.

    Really? I couldn't have guessed...

With no Miandad or Abbas in the list and Anwer topping it.(i love the guy in odis but he never reached his 70% potential in tests.

As far as Anwar is concerned, he was equally prolific in tests and odis although he is more known for his one day batting but he really looked like a batsman instead of some players like Azhar Ali Misbah who dont look the part even after scoring 30K runs in the domestic and intl (talking about Misbah here). Somehow, watching these batsmen you feel like they will get out anytime eventhough Azhar has 5000 intl runs to his name!! As far as Saeed Anwar is concerned and other batsmen of past are concerned, they looked like batsmen whether they were batting on 0 or 300!!

Even, Salman Butt looked much better than Azhar Ali although he had severe technical issues in batting on green pitches!!

Agreed on Anwer, remember that the guy had an average of 45 and i still rate it at 70% of his potential.....

I think Pakistan missed a trick by not making ijaz opener after Aamir Sohail lost his touch.

    Reasons.

He made that bombastic century against India while opening in a one day.
He shares the record for highest opening partnership in tests for Pakistan (298) with Sohail.

see this is why I don't like interacting with young fans. You obviously didn't grow up watching cricket in the 90s and 2000s

you think if a noob can do it IPL than everyone else is mediocre

fyi bat weren't thick as they are now. Field restrictions were off after 15 overs and many more other laws that favored bowlers more

Pakistan's next line of 10K batsmen:

    1. Azhar Ali
    2. Asad Shafiq
    3. Babar Azam
These are the best 3 we got at the moment. Unfortunately, this is the only talent we have that can reach 10K runs! Azhar already has 5K and Asad has 4K runs to their name. Fakhar Zaman is a good limited overs batsman but will need fine tuning of his technique to survive at test level./ You can not bat one way in test cricket. You have to play the different situations of the game,.
Fakhar Zaman is more similar to Saeed Anwar cus Saeed too was flashy in early part of his career thats why Imran did not select him in test cricket and World Cup 92. He developed a good defensive game and then he started getting runs in test cricket!! Fakhar needs to develop in the same way as Saeed Anwar!!

Exactly. Not to mention the bowling quality.
    Wasim
    Waqar
    Saqlain
    Mushtaq
    Akhter
    McGrath
    Warne
    Murli
    Cairns
    Donald
    Pollock
    Klusener

Those are just at the top of my head.

    What are you talking about?
Anwer had TWO double century opening partnerships with rameez, and both were in Australia (i think)
Both Anwer and Waqar were injured. Thats why they missed WC92.

In early part of Anwar's career, Imran did not select him@ The reasoning Imran gave was that he hated batsmen who threw their wicket away! He wanted his batsmen to get out to good deliveries rather than trying to attempt an attractive shot! Saeed had a lot of flair but Imran wanted him to develop a defensive technique! And this was the reason Saeed became such a great batsman, in early part of his career he received the right advice from the greatest of all the greatest not only cricketer but analyst of the game!!

Imam has a tight technique but needs to work on his game more. He is very raw in my opinion at this stage. 2 years of intl cricket will turn him into a much better cricketer overall!!
