ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued a contempt of court notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imaran Khan for his 'derogatory remarks' against judiciary.

The note issued by the Supreme Court states that "as per details, while holding press conference on 26.7.2013, he stated that the role of judiciary and Election Commission of Pakistan is shameful in the conduct of General Elections; that the elections were rigged, due to role played by these two institutions".

Imran Khan in his speech said May 11 polls were the worst in terms of rigging and mismanagement.

"It is hard to understand the outburst of Chairman, PTI for the unwarranted criticism and making highly objectionable, indeed derogatory statements, against the Judiciary and Judges of the Supreme Court. Indeed, he has used contemptuous and derogatory language against the Supreme Court and its Judges."

"Fair comments can be made on judicial verdicts but it is impermissible to scandalize/ridicule the Court or its judges. His statements are aimed at inter alia shaking public faith/confidence in the administration of justice and undermining the dignity/prestige of the Court, thereby tending to bring the Court/Judges into hatred, ridicule or contempt. Article 204 of the Constitution read with the Contempt of Court Ordinance 2003 indeed provide for punishment for contempt of Court, it added.

Issuing a contempt of court notice to Imran Khan, the Supreme Court asked him to appear in person on Friday, where a 3 judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will take up the case.

I wonder how Khan saab will go at this. He can fight fire with fire or just let the matter drown. If he goes with the offensive then he'd probably be disqualified as an MPA and maybe even be jailed up to 6 months. I wouldn't let the matter drown cause what he said was right.

Anyways, Aitizaz Ahsan has offered to fight Khan's case lol

Well forming an opinion on CJP or judiciary over this would be wrong. Just let Imran go to court and clarify.

    Imran Khan said NOTHING wrong.

He said we gave evidence of rigging to the Supreme Courts but they ignored it. Then he stated yeh sab andar sey milay hua hain.

    And he's right

I think these are the same courts for which PTI also struggled and took to streets during Musharraf last days and PPP's early days. But when they took some action against PTI they suddenly become Sharif courts? What a joke.

The judiciary have been under criticism for quite some time now, they shut their mouth on drones and other important issues, and kept on taking useless suo motos, making itself another part of establishment by kicking a prime minister over a letter, which in the end proved to be a dud as it could not get the swiss case opened, so much issue over nothing. This judiciary have taken some good steps, stopping some financial scams, but mostly it has been disappointing. I think their lowest point was the elections 2013, and because the election commission comprised of all judicial appointments, which never happens anywhere in the world. And the elections turned out to be a scam in most parts and then they are not ready to take the blame for it.

Contempt of court on Imran is a non issue and will be solved shortly. But the judiciary needs to improve, and must gain public respect. Also the election commission should be made hundred times more efficient and have more people out of the judiciary.

Khan saab will most probably fight.

And if he does he will be disqualified by The Supreme Court as an MPA and also could be convicted. But CJP isn't that dumb, he knows if he sends Imran Khan to jail there will be Tehrir Square. Luckily for CJP he can do to Imran Khan what he did to Gilani. I don't see PTI protesting all over Pakistan for IK being convicted for 30 secconds like Gilani.

So you are saying that the entire judiciary including all the judges of Supreme court acted together to rig the elections in favor of PML-N? This is the truth? Imran was saying this.

Well this is impossible to be true. Imran sometimes say things before thinking over them and this was one such moment.

He said that PTI gave evidence of rigging to the Supreme Court but they ignored it and furthermore they changed the Presidential Election date without opposition parties knowing. And then he said these top judges of supreme court are all involved. Not the entire judiciary

So what if Presidential Election date was changed? If it was held later do you or Imran think that PTI's candidate would have won. This is a non issue.

He should have followed the proper course of the law and filed a law suit against the rigging in the elections and for that the purpose he should have approached the High Court not the Supreme Court.

He is wrong in a sense that he is making issues of non issues. This policy of confrontation will take our country no where. If PTI is not happy with the things going on in the country and they think that the entire judiciary is corrupt and against them then what the hell are they doing in assemblies? They should resign from all the seats in all Provincial & National assemblies and head towards the streets.

Makes sense. But it's possible that IK was trying to go for a six and thought doing so would fetch him good results.. But it backfired on him?

I'm sure he would have more evidence than just spitting our words of accusations.. Don't you think?

But tbf you can't call it a non issue.. Nothings been done fair till now.
