Nani wasn't looking at Arbeloa and he went for the ball...there was nothing malicious in the challenge at all and he just pulls out a red

Got to say that Man Utds defence is retarded when the opposition are looking for long range shots.

Evra could have saved Modric`s goal.

Roy Keane quite brutal in his assessment, says it was a deserved red

Look at Modric`s goal and Messi`s from the CL final in 2011.

Both could have been avoided had the defence done their job lol

Yeah... don't agree with him tbh saying it is irellevant if he meant to do it... I agree he should have been aware but the fact that he wasn't and there was no intent should mean yellow... no way a red

Retired referee Dermot Gallagher on BBC Radio 5 live: "[The decision was] harsh to say the least but in fairness the Real player did Nani no favours whatsoever. At worst Nani catches the underside of his arm, certainly not the ribs as the guy has gone down and shown.
"I can't reiterate enough that he [Nani] is watching the ball over his shoulder, there was no malice in him. At worst it was a yellow for dangerous play, but if I was refereeing that game I cannot se what stretch of the imagination where I would have sent him off for that."

Hopefully a comeback is on vs Milan next week.

Need to change our tactics and take a risk and maybe go with 3-4-3

Nani's red is debatable but I understand why he was sent off. It looked bad but in my opinion, it was also malicious. Can't explain why but I felt it was not accidental.

I am immensely proud of United, particularly Ryan Giggs who was a commanding presence. I truly believed we would score two goals right until we entered injury time. We are out but with dignity.

Definately Need Villa to play and put Fab on the bench.

Pedro/Tello and Villa together with Messi upfront.

I agree with what you said apart from the bolded bit... he caught his arm... and arbeloa went down holding his ribs

    RVP played decent -
    not amazing.

Varane and Ramos were on him all night and hence gave Welbeck space. It would be fair to say that he RVP is not in top form and you can tell that by his heavy touch.

The Nani red card was the game changer as Welbeck was no longer able to sit on Alonso. Before the sending off, the midfield region was packed with players from both sides.

    10 vs 12 men

    Stupid pathetic referee.

Absolutely ruined the game. Nani's eyes were on the ball, there was no malicious intent. Ref should have given yellow.

After that game was gone. Ronaldo was always going to score, massive respect for him, he didn't celebrate.

Thanks to the ref for ruining the best game of CL :clap :clap :clap

All footballers (infact human beings in general) have a degree of peripheral vision. If this was accidental then these studs up collisions would be a lot more common. Nani must of known that a player was nearby. Although we will never really know!

Rio was fabulous at the end, giving it straight back to the ref.

Jose admitted the best team lost.

This is football. All about luck.

It was clear United were better team when it was 11 v 11. Stupid shameless ref can go back to Turkey. He better not dine in Manchester tonight.

    Roy Keane

In my career I would think 'did I give the referee a chance to send me off?'. If I did, then it is out of my hands. I think that is the right decision. It is irrelevant if Nani meant to do it. He should be aware of the players around him. Does he think that he will have 20 yards to himself?," he tells ITV Sport.

Even if it wasn't intentional, doesn't mean you can do anything and still not get sent off. Flying kicked the poor guy in the stomach studs first.

Very high, kicked him in ribs. Also he must be completely blind to not know a player was around him.

So you expect him not to go for the ball and look like a fool? The boy went for the ball, he caught him in the ribs, not the face.

He leapt in with some ferocity, stud first in a delicate area like ribs must be very painful.
